What’s missing with obtaining skillsets in “most” of these career fields is the prerequisites of:
1. Knowledge of calculus
2. Knowledge of statistics
3. Knowledge of probability theory
Best wishes everyone!
~ Former college & career counselor
One thing, a lot of CRNA programs are straight from BSN to DNP (or DNAP, in anesthesia practice). I don't know of any programs that require one to obtain NP licensure beforehand. Love your channel!
Can you please make an education video about pharmaceutical scientist? This career field seems amazing!
I have some insight based on my experience with job hunting with my BA. I tried sales, customer service (retail because I had to take a step back since I had a traumatic life experience), and entry-level office work. I graduated in 2017 and have been off and on MANY jobs as a Comm. major. Right after I graduated from college, I also had to take care of my dad since he almost died from alcoholism and had to move due to financial concerns, which was a HUGE and LONG 1-2 year process due to complications with the buy and sell agreement. Luckily that eventually got sorted out, and my dad found someone to take care of him, and I could focus on my professional career goals vs. more personal problems.
I also learned how to work in a manufacturing/warehouse environment while trying to find work temporarily since office work was hard to find before covid and during 2020.
As of right now, I am a contract worker for Quest Diagnostics as a Specimen Technician and looking to get hired soon or continue my contract as I get trained more.
The point is to never falter on your goals, with the exception being; that if you need to take time to take care of family, then so be it. I know lab work wasn't in the video, but I do enjoy it and feel I can grow where I am at whether I want to go back to school and pursue a college degree or certificate in a science or medical field paid through Quest. Make sure also to have a plan before and while you go to school and to gain as much experience in your chosen field because nobody knows what will happen after the fact.
Can you do a video on epidemiology?? And Public health outlook with an mph
You are great brother thank you so much 🙏🤗
I just got a Masters degree in Healthcare Informatics and was told I couldn't work as an Informaticist due to my lack of clinical experience. 1. NONE of the former nurses are anywhere near as technical as I am. They cannot keep up. 2. I literally spent 3 years working on a major EHR system writing documentation, teaching the users how to use it and fixing their mistakes!! So 3. Now I work in healthcare IT and make more than them SO Informatics leaders should stop being so narrow-minded about who they hire. Everyone on the outside knows your clinical informaticists struggle technically!!!
Part of that is because a nurse will know if the EHR is effective in practice. There's a lot of terrible ideas that I've seen implimented in the clinical setting that actually on paper sound great but in practice lead to worse patient outcomes because of the implementation of them
@@ken-yv3id Then that needs to be communicated by the nurse to the tech BA - which is what I do. Then continuously optimize the EHR system and processes.
@nickimarie378 That's how it used to be, it wasnt as effective as a nurse informatist
@@ken-yv3id this makes sense. Just because the software seems perfect on the technical end, it may not translate as well to real-world implementation. Nurses/doctors/EMTs/PTs etc. may not be able to keep up because of their other clinical responsibilities continues to expand as well as the documentation required.
So obviously they were wrong. You did find a job as an informaticist. Did it take you long tho to find a job? And also which area of healthcare did you find a job readily? Hospital? Pharmacy organization setting ?? Etc
I'm not in healthcare but I have a career like this. I'm a Technical Writer and I make 90k with just a bachelor's in English lol
How much your degree cost you ?
I was the same. I was a tech writer, then went into software quality assurance. I enjoy both.
how do you get into a career like this? is it hard?
@@CydnieDaniel yeah I was a software technical writer so I can see the overlap. This was the area that I was honestly really good at. I would see issues that others wouldn't. Do you get paid more? Is the work easier?
@@constanttco7509 my loans were about 55k at their highest. I let some interest build up though which made the final balance higher. My fault.
Cloud is interesting. I looked into a cloud career but most positions require several years of IT experience. Similar to cybersecurity, it’s more of a mid-high level career, not many entry level positions :(
Your video are always good.
Thank you so much for sharing! I am going to look into MSL right now.
I’m still surprised videos like this never talk about perfusionists.
What's a 'perfusionist'?
@@BvirtuallYperson who works in the OR and connects the patient to a heart lung bypass machine while the surgeon does surgery. Usually open heart.
Perfusionists primarily work in the OR in heart surgery, not in the ICU unless cannulating a patient or managing an ECMO patient though, when available, trained nurses/RTs do that so as not to burn perfusion personnel.
Underrated profession, and has great pay.. should be included in this video
Also gotta consider lifestyle though. I’m not waking up at 3 am for an emergency surgery that’ll last hours
Shane, could you do a video on all the different careers in the pharmaceutical industry. I know I want to go in the industry but I’m just not sure what career I want to pursue.
Pharmacist
Well explain
Nice video
what is your opinion on Healthcare administration?
Wow this is very interesting!
Thanks! Glad you think so.
Hello, Shane! Can you do a detailed review for bachelor of science in psychology? I'm about to take it up for college.
Construction management please 😎
Hey! If you could pls suggest between Healthcare data analyst and MHA which would you say has more growth , salary and is in more demand now days !? TIA.
You keep on conflating CRNAs with NPs but they’re are very different graduate degrees, and one is far more rigorous than the other.
Is a medical laboratory science degree worth it
I’ve been making over $100k as a Cat Scan Tech since 2003. Close to $160k now with less hours.
May I ask what state this is in? I feel like in my state of Georgia they make much less. Maybe it’s due to the market in which you work?
Wondering more details roo
Can you do one with which is better between biomedical and biochemistry?
Can you make a video of jobs over 100k with a bachelors or associate in science (biochem, biotech). Cause I’m struggling to find a job without a phd!!
What did you end up doing ?
Hit 200k today. Thank you for all the knowledge and nuggets you had thrown my way over the last months. Started with 14k in last month 2024. The price is perfect.
What do you do?
Would like to know your opinion on "Medical illustrator"
what about dietician
CRNA is not from an NP. Its a completely different route and you have to get a doctorates now as they discontinued all Masters programs for it. You need a BSN and usually 2-3 years of ICU experience but some programs will consider 1 year. Ik plenty of nurses who just got accepted into CRNA programs. Also thats not the only route. 22 states have essentially a PA version of it that is a Masters of Anesthesia to become an Anesthesiologist assistant. Thats what I am working towards right now. They also make over 200k a year but have less autonomy than CRNAs as they have to work under an anesthesiologist in all settings CRNA in some cases can be independent.
I'm looking into this at 13. Nice.
Your getting drafted into ww3 there is no hope I feel so bad for the younger generation’s
Go outside bro, you have plenty of time to stress about this later lol
Same applicable in Canada?
Did I just see an article with data from 2012
I'm starting university this year so I was thinking of going for a medical laboratory science degree how is it
I’m a medical lab scientist. We’re in high demand and the work is very taxing… however, we don’t get paid like we should for the amount of education and the role that we play in the patients’ diagnosis. Hopefully, when the healthcare field realize that there’s not many of us and see just how important our job is they will see the value in paying us better. I’m actually going back to school to be an RN and eventually be an APRN. I don’t want to discourage you, but I would feel guilty if I didn’t tell you the state in which my career field is in in the current moment.
Don't there's no growth ,unless you use the degree as a stepping stone to something else. The job is stressful and most places are understaffed and underpaid
rn is where its at because its so broad u can do so much with that degree
crna school is extremely difficult
Me as a nurse working with CRNAs in the surgery rooms. The occupation is very competitive and there are so many of them too. To me, I don't see no value especially with the debt you get into.
Are these careers also this valuable in Canada?
Nope
How much do medical laboratory scientist earn in the us ?
It actually depends on where you work. But we earn anywhere between $64,000 yr - $80,000.
@@Hazelbazel483 thank you
Medical imaging a good career?
I'd say yeah there's a few career paths with that
Can you please include Canadians in your channel 😭
How is the job projection for medical dosimetrists..?! Since everything is going to be automated will this position still be required..?!
I think it is super interesting but too risky.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Everything is definitely not going to be automated in our lifetime. Not even close. It’s good
@@ShaneHummus Thank you so much for your response.
I was actually going for electrical engineering after watching your CZcams videos but I found Medical dosimetrists pretty exciting too.
From no option now I have two to pick..
@@ShaneHummusAs an RN, I concur! There is so much subtlety in evaluating a person's response to cancer and other treatments that require our 5 senses, knowledge and experience as professionals in adjunct with technology! My eyes are some of my most effective tools on the job
If you do dosimetry, risk coming from 2 fronts: better cancer treatments not requiring radiation, AI taking over treatment planning. There’s a couple major software vendors that focus on radiation oncology treatment planning and they are pushing for more automation. On the other hand, best AI/machine learning engineers aren’t working for these companies, so that’ll push the date of full automation back. Probably another 20 years left. I know someone in medical dosimetry work a full time and part time job remotely making over $200k
Another thing you should consider if you are going down the medical dosimetry path is you can future proof yourself by doing a graduate degree in medical physics. You’ll always need medical physicists to ensure the machines are safe and working as expected, no threat of AI
Me over here , traumatic childhood, migrated and started from zero twice in my life , 35 no kids just yet , some very few savings
High school diploma and thinking about how ASN would be a huge goal for me to achieve
Should I shot a pepa straight to my head or be grateful and trust myself and go for it guys what do you think ?
In current world if you make less than 6 fig. Year you worth less than Dog 💩
Can be born just once in this short life
Go for it. Don’t live with regrets!
im like 200k im on oh wait they to tax 65% of it...
How do you get access to the guide? I put in my email a day ago but I haven't received anything
Samee
Any Medical dosimetrist here??
I've been one for 11.5 years now. What's up, my friend?
@@agliasjh Oh Awesome! Thank you for being open to questions. I ve been looking into the Dosimetry program and not sure which school is good or efficient in terms of their training or providing good clinical sites. Ive been looking at SIU, Grand Valley, Wisconsin LaCrosse. What school did you go to? And most importantly, do you enjoy what you do
@@unbezo398 I enjoy what I do! I think it suits my personality, since it's a lot of solo work that involves skill building and creative problem solving, but you also work with a team trading off tasks until ultimately a patient is ready to be treated. I was in school over a decade ago in San Antonio (UTHSCSA), which was a 1 year program of scholastic and clinical work that would qualify you for the certification exam. I was only really qualified to apply to San Antonio because they didn't require a background as a Radiation Therapist first, as I was coming straight out of college with a BA in Mathematics. They only required a BS in any science, and I guess they felt BA in math was just fine, too. While I didn't have radiation therapy experience, going this route really fast-tracked my education to start working with less debt comparatively. While I was in school, some of my mentors had been working for ages as well, and they got their job without having gone to college. On the job training used to be an option for radiation therapists when I was in school, as well, but I think that isn't an option anymore. I think the MDCB is trying to legitimize the increasing salary of a dosimetrist by insisting on more higher education, so now we're seeing these Masters degrees in Dosimetry. I don't intend to get an MS degree myself, since I feel like that might only be more beneficial if I want a supervisor role, which I don't. I won't be able to comment on any other educational institutions for dosimetry, though even my own workplace is starting to consider starting up our own program as a teaching hospital. I may be at the forefront of that project if it comes to pass. Which school you go to may only provide one type of planning system software, and typically any site you end up working at will only provide one type, as well, so if you are able to ask about how many planning systems they may be able to train you on will be helpful for finding a job. I was trained on Pinnacle and got a job at a site that was using Pinnacle, which made the transition really easy. Eclipse is probably the most popular planning system that behaves completely differently from Pinnacle or Raystation (I currently use Raystation, which behaves similarly to Pinnacle so it was easy to transition there). Raystation is a newer software and becoming more popular, also has rave reviews for the most part. So if you're able to combine training of Eclipse + Raystation at a site, then you'd be all set to go.
So is a dosimetrist a higher level vs a radiation therapist?
I also have question about this career, a lot of people say that it will be automated
@@luisbonilla4011 I figured a dosimetrist was just a modality that you learn by being a rad therapist.
@@porfiriato84 yes I think the same there is not to much info around that career
Dosimetrist is higher. Radiation therapists PREFORM the examination. Dosimetrists help CREATE the examination/protocol for that specific patient and specific cancer.
I want to get into healthcare but unfortunately the latest vax craze has made it very difficult.
Crna, np first? 🤦🏾♀️
No you don’t have to do an np first
