In this lesson we will begin to master the arpeggios found in the the melodic minor scale. When we play the scale a 1/2 step above the root of a dominant chord we bring out altered chord tones. We can name that scale either the Jazz Scale or the Dominant Melodic Minor Scale. Now when we focus on the areppios of the scale and use them for soloing we can get some "outside" sounds. Rich also explains an easier way to memorize the chords and incudes a worksheet to help you reach this end. This is an important lesson for those who want to venture out in their soloing. 40 minute video with PDF music in tab and notation.

Your dominant melodic minor scale-arpeggio does sound really cool! I seem to hear that a lot in Bernard Herrmann's compositions. Been a huge fan of Bernard Herrmann those 4 notes really caught my ear. Great lesson Rich!

Wouldnt it be easier to think of what you can play over that 7 chord like the 5 diatonic or the 5 harmonic minor or the 4 or 5 melodic minor and relate each scale back to the diatonic modes with overlaps for linear implementation at the 2 diatonic for the melodic and at the 6 for the harmonic minor for linear thinking. then just one raised step starting at the 7th modal step for first mode, then 6th for the 2nd mode and so on.

I always seem to find just the right next video or Rich's to watch. Yes, it's a youtube on the right side suggestion...so..
When I hear RIch play this Gibson, as opposed to the other guitars, it just seems to have a big fat tone. To the point that I don't even want to see a light colored pick guard on it, or even new white binding. It's too bad to look so clean. But there are people who will tell you that on electric, it's all about the strings, frets, and the pickups, and not the body. What do you think? (I miss that 1970's ES 175...)

I like the MicroPro200 with the 8" speaker the best. Its the most versatile. both are very close to a tube sound

What do you recommend for playing outside over static minor 7th chords?

Why do you not just get to the point, little dribs and drabs and nothing concrete pal!!?
does it hurt you to teach for free?

+The7nUp Sorry pal this is a lesson demo. Would it hurt you to pay $4.99 to learn what you want to know?

+Rich Severson The point is your wantonness and disregard for truth by also using misleading labels on your videos. Just title it properly.
LESSONS for $5. but do not treat people with such contempt thinking that their time belongs to you. FYI: there are much more better trained guys teaching the same for free. eoa

There may be a lot of guys giving lessons on U Tube, but few are on same level as Rich. I watch as may as possible and if I had the money to study under someone for a year, it would be Rich. I would like to study under Pat Martino or George Benson, but I doubt they would be good teachers. Larry Coryel was pretty good as a teacher and a great player, but he is gone now. and I enjoyed the few lessons i had with him.
be happy you got a free lesson.
By the way, I believe Rich was connected with GIT..started by the great Howard Roberts and Don Mock..I don't think there are better schools now, maybe different, but not better.
