  • Here we learn to install the electrical wire to the smoke detectors in the new Zittle Garage building.
    Use 14/2 to the first smoke detector and then 14/3 to all the rest.
    I am not a professional electrician and everything here will be inspected by the county. Please use this video for informational purposes only. #HowTo #smokedetector #builder

    @6:06: That's funny; I was just thinking, "Man, I like those snap-in wire harnesses. I wonder where he gets those."

    Can you start in 12-2 then run 14-3 to daisy chain them

    would be nice to show the boxes and wiring of the detectors as well, since the running of the wires doesn't have much to do with the detectors, per se.

      Wire set up is pretty easy. All the whites go together, black go to blacks, red with reds and grounds all together.

    Can you go to panel box with 14/3? What would you do with red? Thanks
    Enjoyed video!

      You could. But there’s no need to. If you did, I would just mark it and put a wire nut on it…

    Do smokes need a direct feed from the panel? Or can I feed it off something else like a plug?

    are those just standard round blue ceiling fan boxes, or is it a special one for mounting smoke detectors?

      @ZittleFarms  Před rokem +2

      Hey Jesse, you just need the round boxes. They don’t have to be ceiling fan ones. Lowe’s item #70978

    Do you connect the hot with the orange wire together

    • @ZittleFarms
      @ZittleFarms  Před rokem

      If I understand correctly, all the whites go together. All the blacks go together. As for the red/orange wire they attach all together. That is the wire where if one goes off, they all go off. At the first and last smoke detector there should only be 2 wires (not 3 like the middle ones). I hope that helps!! Thanks for watching

      Maybe I'll work on a video of doing that. But this video is just on just the rough in (running the wire to the boxes)
