- As a Hull Maintenance Technician, the ship is your playground. You specialize in ship repair, and will work on every inch of metal on the vessel-fabricating pipes, welding sheets of stainless steel and fixing ship structures. You’ll maintain your own shop, but get to work on everything from the belly of the ship, all the way up to the pilothouse. In other words, if it needs welding, you’ll handle it. Trust your skills boys...I pretty much excel at anything I'm assigned to build after being a Hull Tech. From pipe welding to sheet metal it all translates.
BZ Shipmate ⚓️
Also you're responsible for the ships sewage system, they left that part out.
Because then no one would pick it
Poop is good for your immune system...

Brah, as soon as I clicked the video and didn't see a fire main hooked up the black water fitting I knew they were lying.
So funny I thought the same thing!
i feel like contractors do more welding for the navy than being a HT
Yes, that can be true, I was an H.T. in the 70s, I did more plumming than welding the first couple of years.but as you say on deployment you do weld maintenance, once dockside much welding is done by civilian contractors. I got out in 1980, got one of those jobs as a civilian welder, did it for years, about ready to retire now, well set.
David Harrington are you still active duty? I know of many welding jobs available in my region.
David Harrington I'm in the Portsmouth New Hampshire area. They are looking aggressively for welders at the Portsmouth Naval shipyard, working on submarines. And at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a bit further north in Bath Maine , working on the new Destroyers. I've worked both places, pretty good pay both. Nice country up here, cold this time of year. There is a shortage of welders here.
David Harrington actually after serving aboard ship, the civilian job in a shipyard is gravy in comparison. You work regular hours, get paid more, and never leave dockside.
David Harrington you can look them up on line, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Kittery Maine. And the other is General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath Maine. Both have websites, click on employment, follow the steps.
1984-90 HT1 keep your hood down and burn rod 🔥. Made first class while TAD to Sima/Nrmf Long Beach,Ca. Was medically discharged a month later (R) knee. Have my own welding business now nothing like being independent!
I leave tomorrow and I’m an ht I’m excited I already have all my certifications for welding so I should have an advantage
So how is it
Lots of poop lol
Lol u won't be welding at all. You'll be dealing with poop, clogged toilets, and sometimes even eat poop in the process.
Bet u didn’t know they lied about what HT does huh 🤣
Ben Perl 😂😂😂 i bet your pissed
Basic Training February 18th 2020 !!! Can’t wait
Papi Ware I hope your not going in as a HT 😭

This video is teeming with welder creativity. Love that tune really launches in with conviction. Slow motion white water lord have mercy lol
I welded a 50 cal mount on the front of an FFG I was on.. Shortly left to go home, I often wonder it the weld broke n lost the 50 cal overboard...
I laughed at this 😂
Future HT 🔥
Same!
@@captainstars4430currently in a school now. Love it man this is such a cool rate
@@iAceCarter I'm hella nervous, currently a junior in high school.
How was bootcamp?
@@captainstars4430 definitely challenging but nothing nobody can’t handle. My best advice is to not take nothing the RDCs say personal. Clear your mind when you have free time and just keep staging focused. You’ll complete your test and inspections when you study and stay focused.
Just join a union apprenticeship and do the same work for real money.
Does this job give a welding certificate once graduating out of A school?
Yes
SIMA CHASN. 84-86. Ht3
Does anyone know what kind of certifications you get like do I get a plumbers license
Hi there, thank you for reaching out. You can learn more about the rate of Hull Maintenance Technician by clicking here:www.navy.com/careers/hull-maintenance-technician?activity=1263685
We get certifications that can be transferred to the real world. You’d have to certify BUT you do get experience. So that helps. But we leave with no civilian certs and home toilets are different than ship toilets/ sewage system. Been an HT for 8 years.
@@victoriamorris7264thanks for the info man
Need something on the ship? Write a job.
Proud to call myself turdchaser/turdherder. They always seem to leave that part out tho.
