The emphasis on "*Love*" in the chorus is so pained and real and it makes this song. It's the perfect way to communicate audibly that love, often, hurts. An amazing song.

I don't think this is auto-tuned, it's more like editing to make the echoing sound effect. Watch videos of her singing it live and she doesn't sound much different. Foxes is so talented, everyone praises Zedd for playing the piano in this video but Foxes sings her heart out time and time again and sounds so amazing doing it.
Chelsey Byers Everything is auto-tuned. No joke. Most people don't hear it since we are so used to it. Even some live performances are being auto-tuned nowadays (the voice, idols etc). Still tho, to get good vocals you need a good singer. Auto tune doesn't turn anyone into a good singer :)
out of the short experience of hearing my literacy development teacher sing, I can confirm that this likely is pitch correction, and sound fx.
But autotune does t help you hit higher notes it just help with sound effects

Auto tune is used for sound effects for specific artists (famously t-pain) but that isn’t the use of auto tune…the point of the plug-in is automatically tune sounds (mainly vocals) to a set key. If you wasn’t confident if you knew what autotune was then you probably shouldn’t give people false information by guessing
Foxes is not auto tuned. She has different high pass filters and echo filters to give her voice characteristics that fit with sections of the acoustic version. It's just one way Zedd likes to add layering to the vocals

Whenever someone tells me Zedd isn't really talented and all he knows how to do is write songs and add electronic beats to the song and that "he's not a true musician" (actual quote from someone) I like to show them this video and watch their faces as they realize they're wrong. I mean even on his David Letterman appearance with Foxes, a while back, Zedd himself played the piano! This man is full of talent!
