- I'm really happy with this month's theme and box! THIS is the kind of stuff I want to see in this subscription!
- Jak na to + styl
For €12/$11ish you could have got the Opinel 8. Which is larger-both blade and handle. Also, the knife can be locked in an open or closed position by turning the crown on the joint.
This is my kind of box, old school and even a little hobby-ish. Good stuff. I love the opinel, I carried a N°8 for nearly 10 years as my EDC, when in Highschool and U, but no one called it like that on those days; it was just "your knife" for lunch, sharpening pencils and general stuff. It wasn't frowned upon. The sheath for the Condor knife, on other topic, is modeled after traditional South-American ones: it's supposed to be tucked diagonally under your belt at your back, that's what the leather "tab" or "tongue" is meant for, as a stopper, since most of the country folks over there favoured sashes over belts. Maybe too strange of a concept for the US, the "loose" sheath, but surprisingly practical once you get used to it.
My dad makes knives, that condor kit would be a good gift idea.
Sheath slips in between your belt and pants. Sheath has that little lip that goes over the belt. It’s a great knife.
The Condor Primitive Bush Knife in the sheath is meant to be inserted between your Belt and Pants (not inside the pants). The small tab (under the "Condor" stamped into the leather) holds it in place.
Please reference the previous comment.
*Opinel are not slip joint knives since there's a locking crown.*
You can remove that collar and it cam becone one. They also sell slipjoint models. But you are totally right that unmodified this actually is not a slipjoint. Bad, bad wording on my part.
Thanks for another great unboxing! I would have to say, that is an awesome box!
Your a great youtuber and your honest about your opinions thank you keep up the vids
that df4 trap is based on a trap that people have used twigs to build for ages. it isn't worth the $15
I really likes this month's box all but the readyman junk. I get the advanced. That little folder as simple as it is, I like it. The more I handle it the more I like it, and I don't even know why. Lol
I really like this box it's really intriguing and seems to be well put together.
I love how true u are about these reviews
Appreciate your honesty as always Doc. Thanks!
Not sure about the Deadfall trap, but I know you are allowed to use that conibear trap that you received a few months ago depending on which part of PA you are in, you will need to acquire a hunting license and fur takers tags though, and also leave all of your personal information attached to or near the Trap itself, if you pick up a copy of the hunting regulations from Walmart it should explain the zones and methods allowed to be used.
On that opinel knife you can twist the silver thing around so it blocks the blade from closing on your fingers , kind of acts like a little lock .
I'm so sorry Doc. I have been really sick and all I have been doing for the past two weeks is sleep and eat. But I'm back and feel a lot better hope you had a great day! hope I didn't miss anything great video!
Dude, I hope you feel better!
Alreet doc hello from across the pond that speedy stitcher is used by sail makers and boat sail repairers all over apparently the beat thing for anything thick ie leather etc looks a good box keep up the great reviews mate
Nice review Doc. I have my box sitting here unopened. I am waiting for something I picked up on Amazon to use as comparison to the fire kit in the BB. Hopefully I'll have my review out this weekend! Hope you and the crew are all good after your move.
I'm curious to see what you've got in the works!
Doc i have been watching battleboxes prior and after this one they have finally done it right. That custom knife god its so hot and well made a little strange in shape but heavy use beautiful Stuart Palmer Adelaide Sth Australia
The sheath is made to slide under a belt, and the steel won't rust or build a patina easily my main knife is 440hc and I've never oiled it not a spot of rust on it yet and I live in a super humid area ( hence my main knife being stainless)
I just got a kubey and all because of your vid on them. Thank you!
I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed.
Another great video Doc!
Thanks!
A little late but here's some feed back.. First the speedy stitched is about $7 at Walmart and comes with 4 needles and a spool of extra string, the puck is generally used for axes and hatchets that's why it's not a fine stone, figure 4 year is a waste it only takes 3sticks and a couple minutes to build one and you can build any size, that one you are gonna be eating rats and squirals, and like you said fire tin is a rip off. So is the cheese grater unless your camp cooking with it lol
We can forgive a little late for a comment as detailed as yours! Thanks for sharing so much good info and well thought out opinions!
The sheath in the end knife is supposed to go through a belt with that lip holding it in place, not the best system but it works.
That opinel locks open and closed when you twist the metal bolster. Not sure that one does or not.
I’d put pcord on the knife making kit
Ah the condor. I got one just like that one. It's a great knife and it looks great witg a pera cord handle
no matter how drunk you are at 4:00 in australia you have to pause the sessione for a DOCP upload.
great vids everywhere on this channel
uhlstick same in any slavic country
the gamer doesnt matter what country your in aslong as it involves staying up way to late and a video about knife youll never buy. but would love to
uhlstick true dat
Exactly the same in Israel
good old doc has an audience all around the globe it seems
You didnt lock the opinel
I wish a happy welcome to Aiden to Cub Scouts! Im currently a Boy Scout in Troop 63!

@@lucascurrah6010 hold up you stupid fuck how is he a noob
Love your videos keep makin them
Waits for "Who the hell is Crocodile Dundee?"
Excellent reference.
The joys of being an old guy!
Condor sheath solution: Tuck whole sheath in belt with flap part overhanging the belt to keep it from falling through.
But that doesn't make it practical. It is still a two handed sheath. it won't stay there when you draw the knife unless you hold the sheath with the other hand.
Then grab it with the other hand or pick it up if it falls out. Not really seeing the major issue here as it's not as if they're claiming it's a paratrooper knife or something.
The issue is I personally prefer a sheath that stays on a belt of pack or whatever without having to be held in place with my other hand. If you don't mind, that's your preference. Everyone gets to decide what they like or not. That's the awesome thing about personal preference.
Yet I just watched another video of yours where you had no issue with the unwieldy snap-close sheath on a kukri machete that, if operated with one hand, could lose you your knife rather than just the sheath.
Rather arbitrary standards...
@@BobPapadopoulos taking it out with one hand is important to me. Being able to draw that blade while the other hand is occupied is a real world consideration. Ive encou tered it in the military. After the fact using two hands to out it away is not an issue.
I bought an opunel k I've from a store near me and it was the sharpest and most reliable knife I've owned
Oh thank god you found your bracelet!
Seriously! Thanks for keeping tabs!
The Opinel also has a locking collar.
Thanks for your honest opinion bro you are cool!
22:30 Ok THAT’S gonna be a problem!
Actually the little tab on the sheath is for carrying it in the waste band. Hope this helps.
Did you know that the opinel has a locking collar and you should look into Japanese whetstones for sharpening you might find it interesting
ill have to grab that blade of the month off amazon. that is one beautiful blade.
Love the honest videos
Thanks. I promise they will always be honest and un-sponsored!
Condor knives in this box was a real win...
I'm already looking at what else they make that I want to add to my lineup!
Opinel knives are great knives !
I like the editing. I don't know if that's old and I just missed it but regardless it's nice
Thanks. I've been using new software lately.
This was a cool box thank you
The blade blank looks cool
I'm going to video the making of it when I get around to putting a handle on it.
It's a good thing I watch you videos, now I know not to get that crap.
When the weather gets better lol. You won't be making anymore outdoor videos until June 😂😂😂
Welcome to the north east.
Great video by the way.
If you're looking for my hopes and dreams, you'll find them crushed under your comment's boots...
I feel like the deadfall trap has no value since you can make them with sticks and a pen knife. If you want to include a trap, should be something like a small trap for muskrat or Martin.
The sheath for that knife is a strange one. It's meant to be worn inside the pants and that tab goes over the material of your pants.
I just can't imagine that being comfortable or practical.
+ on ur cheese grinder for tinder the flint scraper can be used to sharp ur knife if u try u can get use to it
I absolutely adore Opinel knives, and if anyone ever wants a quality and inexpensive blade I will recommend it
Battlebox usually has the best subscription boxes. This one was not my favorite though. Check out the battlebox self defense mission box. October 2017 i think?
+Thomas Walsh I've got a video on it.
You need to rotate the metal collar on the opinel to lock the blade
Yeah...but if we leave it unlocking, our friends across the pond can use it!
The leather tab thing on the front of the Matt graham knife sheath is made so you can slide the knife behind your belt and the tab keeps it from falling
And you have to hold it with your other hand every time you draw it. That's no good for me.
DocP91B different strokes for different folks. I personally love the knife. I just tighten my belt a bit more and no problem drawing.
i do exactly the same! it really is a wonderful knife
I dont know if you have gotten your Alpha Outpost box yet but mine just arrived today and wow is all I can say without ruining it for those who havent gotten theirs yet. This will be my last month for Alpha Outpost, any suggestions on what boxes I should try for my next for the $25 to $50 range?
I think they have mine shipped extra slow to let their sponsored people get their reviews out first. Mine arrives in another 5 days.
I think it would be interesting to see what you would put in one of those Altoids kits.
I never really thought about it. Once upon a time I used 35mm film canisters and star-cluster flare canisters to put fire starting stuff together and zip-tied it all to my survival knife sheath.
Nice brush clearing knife
The sheath goes in the pants and the leather tab would set on the outside.
Traps should be relatively cheap because the more traps you put out the better your chance
By the way if no one has told you yet the opinel knife will lock if you turn the metal when open and I think closed you should look and see cuz I’ve seen them lock but Mabey you have a different one I do t know
The opinel is really good i'm a scout and have the nr.9 and use it all the time.
I'm thinking about adding some more to my collection.
PACK 55??!! I know that Pack!!
I grew up there. Go to Q-Mart on the weekends.
I had my first Q-Mart experience two weekends ago. What an...interesting place!
I grew up just north and went to school in Pennsburg. Anyway, love your videos. And next time you are at the Q, get the sticky buns.
A survival cheese grater
Nice vid
I love your videos though LOL
With the knife of the month when you found it on Amazon did it come with the sheath?
Yup. Came with the same sheath.
Anywhere in Florida on your property I mean.. i live just north or tampa. Hog traps are very common so small game traps are definitely all good
Also not worth the money. 2 solid cedar sticks will do just fine if you've got a knife to cut some notches a few inner cords from the para
I was pack 66 in cub scouts
hey Docp it slips into a belt or waist band brother man,and Matt graham uses his knife witch is the same one who got in the show dual survival.
Yeah I get that. I don't want that carry system. I've had to explain this a bunch. I want to add a loop so I can carry it on a load bearing rig, or a belt. I don't want something intrusive sticking in my pants like that and the added width near where the flap sits makes it uncomfortable for me to tuck it into a belt. I don't want to have to hold the sheath with one hand to draw the blade with the other. I'm going to have to get to work creating something and then make a video of it.
Docp i'm sure you'll make something cool to improve the sheath design.
I want to come up with something that can be added to, instead of a permanent fixture. I don't want to take away from the spirit of the thing, but I want the option, you know what I mean?
yeah i know what you mean I have the same type of knife, and I would love to see what you come up with, cause honestly I hate caring and using the tiny flap on it.
14.99 is pretty steep for a deadfall given that you could watch a CZcams video and then make one in 5 minuets for free . But given that it's made of metal , not too bad
Thanks for the input!
The leather sheath goes into your pants and that small embossed leather flap sits on the outside.
I would not want that set up at all. I'm going to have to make a loop for that thing.
You can slide it just through your belt, not in your pants. It’s a very old way of carrying a knife or dagger.
Aaron Stout still though...with the way that blade sticks in there, it becomes a two handed operation to take the things out. I'm not knocking the old school style or anything. I just want to add a bit of new school practicality.
Doc, I hear ya. I guess we can put that stitcher to good use.
Yeah might as well combine some projects.
Hi doc hope you are having a great day
I'm having a good (but cold) day. How are you?
Do you know Matt Graham is on the show dual survival and that is the knife he carried (not the exact one)
Aw cool your son does cub scouts i do boy scout defiantly a great program
I am limited on money and i need some gear for camping should i buy battle box or should i buy gear from stores?? I already have basics like a twnt a sleeping bag hatchet but not much else. Also for a state park in Pennsylvania tey francis slocum it has a nice lake and nice trails and a cool story
OK, Honestly, if you know what you need, buy it yourself and shop for the best prices.
DocP91B thank you
Nice video
Thanks!
You can buy alll of those material for way less than the msrp is worth. Finds something else that’s worth your money
I'm wondering can you light a match on that sharpening puck🤔
I never tried. Maybe. I honestly have no idea where it is right now.
I think primitive trapping is pretty much illegal everywhere in the States except for an emergency situation or if your Native hunting on Native lands. Making figure fours are a huge pain in the ass so I would say its a good deal. It would be more for a survival kit or bugout bag or whatever but you would really need multiples for it to ever be beneficial in a survival setting.
Charles Howard it is not illegal in Tennessee
The puck stone is mostly used for sharpening axes. I don't know if I'd take it to my fine edge knives.
+Jason Cornu I wouldn't use it for an edge that just needs touching up or honing. I would only use that on something that needs serious re-sharpening or re-profiling. I'd rather use an actual wetstones or diamonds for real edge work.
Lanky markets their puck as an axe or machete sharpening device, it does work well on hatchets using circular motions
DocP91B those pucks are rough on steel. They are good for thicker blades though. Personally I prefer a strop and a diamond rod for field sharpening. I carry a Fallkniven though, so that convex edge require a little different technique.
hey Doc you could do a simple loop around the sheath that goes under the tab that has a belt loop attached to it just get the loop wet and stretch it over the sheath, and screw walmart, go to dollar tree and get a cheese grater
It's like you're right there in my head. I was toying with the idea of heavy duty Velcro to fasten it too.
I was thinking stretching stitched leather over while wet just to maintain the look of the sheath
The tab on the sheath is actually for an in the waistband carry. The majority of it sits inside with the tab holding it on the outside. With a sheath that tight the whole knife and sheath will most likely get pulled out.
Jeff aka culerylover better explains how the knife is designed to be carried on his battlebox unboxing
The Elemental Studios Jeff does do a good job. And to add he loves opinels and it does have a lock, you twist that bolster
You should check out cutlery lovers video on this box
i am in pack 548 !
i am also in scouts where is your pack
We are in Pennsylvania.
Lol north weather for the win
What does edc stand for every day carry also odc idk what that means can anyone help me
EDC does stand for every day carry. I don't know what IDC is. I've never heard of it.
@@DocP91B idc I Don't Care, normally at least idk tbh
The traps are legal anywhere on your own property or any private property with permission from the owner
I had a FWS officer tell me something different about them. Oh well, I live in Pennsylvania now.
Can anyone tell me which box came with lock pick tools?
It was a SHTF Mystery Gear box. Here's the video czcams.com/video/lcaofcQ5cRA/video.html
Thanks, great vid!
I have gotten traps cheaper but no packaging and I have to paint them🙄 so if it was a good paint then yea not to expensive.
The Opinel locks open by rotating the metal collar. Not sure you knew that. I didn't at first
I'm thinking that by not locking it, it may be UK friendly.
DocP91B they can buy the next size down, #5, which doesn't have the locking ring.
Opine is one of the best "bang for the buck" knives that has ever been made.
Marshmalllaw123...I feel like the second guy to invent the lightbulb now...
DocP91B no worries man, Opinels are terrific fun to discover, kinda like you did with the Moras! Both companies just really get it. Cheap, light, simple and well-made. Hard to go wrong with that formula.
Doc were u in boy scouts and if u were what troop
I was never a scout. My best friend growing up was an Eagle Scout though.
That's very cool I plan on getting my eagle and after when I turn 18 going into the marines
Get that Eagle before you go in!
K thank you for being a great youtuber and thank you for your service and thank you for being the first CZcams for responding to my comment and if the plan goes right I will be getting my eagle when I'm 16
A magnesium block flint rod would be better than the whole tin
How much was the box.like to buy it...?
It cost him $149.99 as he got the pro plus package. It was in the video. Just have to pay attention.
Thanks. And I was paying attention I just didn't know if he had to pay for it separately or if the price for the pro plus was including those.
don't tread on me outdoors when you buy a box, it comes with everything at that level and everything in the levels below it.
is there a European equivalent to Battlebox?
CCAAAAAAATTTTT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(srry)
Hey i just wanted to thank you for all the videos because im going to start my Battlbox in Jan, but have you looked into Survival Box survivalboxes.com/ but i still think Battlbox is the way to thanks again
I've started to get the Survival Boxes gear only. Here is a link to my first unboxing: czcams.com/video/wqo8bitobdw/video.html
The opinel knife does not have a slipplock...
It does if you pop off the locking collar.
You broke it didn't you
I mean...some say "broke". Some say "permanently modified in a new and unexpected way".
Seems like a valid point of view to me
Iraq attack lmao
Good stuff but the fire starter kit is way over priced!
