- I went solo in one of the most dangerous places in Johannesburg south Africa. I was warned severally not to dare walk there but just had to see it for myself.
If you don't have street smarts I myself would not advise you to come here by yourself

downtown Jozi, I haven't been that side of town in a while. thanks for sharing your experience , i was walking with you all the way. my only wish for this beautiful concrete jungle is for its people to stop littering and keep the streets nice and clean like it used to.
My first day in JHb CBD, as a young 16 year old on a school trip, I was stabbed three times in the gut for a Vodafone, R120, and an empty bag. The people laughed as I begged for help and the group of friends I was with called the teachers and ambulance. 12 years later and I'll still not set foot in that filthy city.
African city in a country which coddles criminals... you are just a statistic unfortunately. I had my own drama, my sister too and the list goes on. At least the mayor has 20 bodyguards and 15 BMWs in his motorcade to keep him safe. LOL.

R1600 is very cheap for a one bedroom apartment in the CBD. In Namibia you would pay R3000 for bachelor flat and upwards of R3500 to R4000 for 1 bedroom flat with separate rooms. Namibians are so greedy, there is no difference in rent between affluent, middle class and low income locations. The price is arbitrary. South Africa is so affordable.

Exactly like you said. Joburg is neglected. Most Private Sector pulled out of the city and left the city desolate. The rather invested in suburbs just around the Joburg Center. So when you visitor you’ll see many cities in Joburg built in the suburbs around the old city. And that’s where the new cities are. There are many historic reasons as to why Private Investment went out of the Old City. Main reason being the end of Apartheid and Whites gearing their assets were going to be burnt down or robbed so as soon as Apartheid ended they took all their wealth out the city and left a Ghost City that is waiting for serious reinvestment for it to come alive again. It’s a Sleeping Giant. But one day it will wake up. New York was renovated not so long ago, so can Joburg.
