yes they’re a historical team who had great success in the past, so the fans were very unhappy at the players and management and tried to attack them when they got relegated. It was clearly directed at their players.

These aren't real fans. My team also got relegated last season after 20+ years in the top flight, in the exact same way. The supporters were standing and supporting them after the final whistle, trying to cheer up the crying players. THAT's real fans. Can't support them when they lose? Don't support them when they win.

Saint Etienne used to be a really big french club, like Lyon were or Marseille were, and to the fans them being relegated is as crazy as if a club like Atletico Madrid got relegated, they weren't used to this and got angry.
