“Actual rat nest on top of a proverbial rat nest” that’s the best description I’ve ever heard for 80% of my projects!!
lul at least he did not have to eat a rat sandwich like like sylvester stallone did in Demolition Man.
Two mechanics were making small talk about what happens when an engine is running but the car is in park.
You know, just some idle banter.
LOL. You have an endless supply!
@@WatchWesWork figure its my job to be the weirdo in the comments lol
Would you assume their conversation didn't go very far
The reason that your torque converter belt engages at idle is because it is on backwards. Those belts have an edge that has a bevel towards the tooth side, and an edge that is square cut. The edge with the bevel should go towards the engine, as that side of the driver pulley has a conical shape that it matches. Try flipping it end-for-end.
Both sides of the belt are beveled, it's probably just not adjusted correctly, belt deflection or belt to sheave clearance
I always laugh so hard at the recurring “It’s almost like it sat outside for SEVENTEEN years..” line 😂
Yeah... that’s like saying when you type lol you actually scream laugh not very accurate

Referring Mustie1! +10!
Even have a first fire laugh!
Laying on of hands is about right for Mustie1. Cheers
That's exactly what I was going to say !! When I heard him referring to Darren when he pulled the "crusty" carb. Then the same Mad laugh at the fist start !
Yep, this Man is a Mustie 1 follower !
I'm a newbie here. Found your name on Marty T channel. Glad to subscribe like, right now !
Lol @ the ‘battery on concrete’ statement
Concrete will do nasty things t your battery. Seems a fair effort to put concrete in the battery tray though.
@@ryanworkman5229 No, it does not.
Ryan Workman it’s a myth about concrete. Only poorly misguided fools believe that. 😂
@@roberttimmons5638
The concrete is not the problem. It's the humidity from the concrete floor, usually in not heated basements or garages.
I told a friend of mine so many times not to store his deep charge batteries in his damp summer cottage basement during winter.
He ruined 3 batteries doing so before the sales counter guy told him the same as I did. Bimbo.
It's my understanding that the old style , non maintenance free ones had thinner outside walls or something like that. And those types were not liking the concrete floor due to premature drainage... Let's seperate myth and old wise tails from just old style batteries...and move on shall we. It took me up until I was in my 50s to realize why I wasn't supposed to store on the floor...now it is mute. So everyone please calm down, even if I still have an old habit of storing my battery on wood, it's not gonna hurt it....
💪😊👍 PS ... These new vehicles with literally " a blinking light" that drains your battery if you let it sit for longer than 4 days its dead, and where I'm from In the winter when the battery freezes dead will be 💩 for sure. Stupid blinking light.😊
LOVE invoking the name of @Mustie1, especially the "laying on of hands" comment! Also, kudos for mentioning the other fellow - I've caught some of his vids before today, but I *thoroughly* enjoy the idea of bringing up another YT producer vs the tearing of others down. I know you don't do negative vids, but they're out there, and I don't think it does our community any good.
Keep doing the good work you're doing, Wes! I hope your channel grows exponentially and hope to be watching you for years to come!!
PS: I hope you were wearing a mask during the critter eviction!! Stay safe!!
I try not to say too much negative about other CZcamsrs, but sometimes I can't help myself.
@@WatchWesWork "'cough cough, Andrew Camarata, cough cough". Seriously though, your videos are top notch and you know I love them.
@@WatchWesWork I snagged a $25.00, 50CC scooter, tried the "mustie1" route but nope, i spent $200.00, sold it for three, had about 40hrs in it, he & you are amazing, ill stick to plumbing where i seem to luck out for a living (good-upload)
Mustie1 and Camarata are the kings of "getting it running and working", bar none. We have three great channels to watch.
The group I ride with when someone cold fires a 2T you suppose to say “ We got a new Pope ?”
"Say cheese!"
"CHEESE.....hamburger...."
Right on kiddo, fire up the grill. 😎
I think he may have been referring to "Hamburger Helper". ;-)
Yeah, I was amused by that remark, as well :D

Love the test ride with the crusty lid-less brake fluid reservoir in the shot. Thanks
Holy Hantavirus!!!! I love that the Mrs calls it "video tapping" I still do the same...
Hey Wes! Awesome to see you got it running!
I have a brake master i’ll send ya for free to keep the project moving along.
Also some things to note about the CVT clutch system. There is a specific clutch removal tool for the primary clutch. Can be had online pretty cheap, threads into the clutch and presses onto the crankshaft stub. ( I purchased mine from Dennis Kirk). When you take the clutch back off be sure to inspect all the weights and bushings for excessive wear. That system is the p90 style clutch system but many parts are interchangeable with the more common p85 systems found on Polaris snowmobiles of that era. Also important to note that belt alignment is critical as well as making sure the secondary clutch can float freely on the shaft. Torque spec on the primary clutch is right around 65ft/lb for future reference. As far as adjusting belt tension, there is not external adjustment on that system, there are shims that can be removed in the primary clutch to adjust the belt clearance but I promise you that you don’t want to hassle with that. The belt will wear in over time.
As for the crank seals on that Fuji engine, I believe the case needs to be split to install them but I am not 100 percent certain.
Yeah, I was able to borrow the proper puller to do the seals. I'll look it over before I put the guards back on. Thanks for the info!
I thought the same about the seals but oddly enough you can replace them without splitting the crankcase. There is a video on CZcams on the procedure.
I have a “big boss” 4x6 of the same vintage as this trail boss (same atv with a dump bed and extra axel) and I got it from an older gentleman that had it sitting in his barn for 15 or so years and every single brake line needs replaced. Including the masters. Little bit costly but I’m saving my penny’s! Thank you for that info on the clutches @audiquatro that’s some golden bits of info!:) glad you got this one back on the road Wes! Best of luck in the future from WV!:)
That thing was definately a Mustie1 special. Great job getting it going again. You will definately have fun riding it.
Great job! Nice carb rebuild. When you get it running your laugh reminds me of Mustie1 when he gets an old engine to fire for the first time.
I was gonna say by your reaction to it starting "you'll love Mustie1" but you said "lets get all Mustie1 on on that (carb)". Excellent Wes.
I been watching Mustie1 for a long time and started following Hamilton Farm, so between you three I have been well informed. Cheers
I busted out laughing at the battery stored on concrete remark.
The MIC carb is made by mikuni. Very popular on snowmobiles. The emulsion tube as you called it comes out through the top of the carb. Pull gently with needle nose pliers. They do tend to get stuck. To check crank seals spray carb cleaner around seals and listen for a change in the idle.
2 videos this weekend, gotta be the best weekend ever, love watching your videos and how you explain what you do to find the problem. I learn alot from watching your videos
Glad you like them!
Two mornings in a row having coffee watching Wes work. Fantastic
2 days of WWW, what a treat.
shaking the fuel tank around with the bolts in it sounds like 7.3 running.
What does that do
@@officialalloy8601 Helps knock loose the debris and varnish. Acts like an abrasive. Essentially mimics a machine called a wheelabrator.
I use apple cider vinegar to clean out rusty gas tanks. I also put nuts in there and shake the mix around like crazy. I let it soak for a day or two then I dump out the vinegar and flush it out with water. It works pretty good and I like that the vinegar is not bad to dump out on the ground, like some of the chemicals that are for this purpose.
Starting to think you could fix a rainy day! Thanks for the vid man.
On Saturday mornings & some Sunday too, I will get up & try to catch up on your website & of course Mustie 1 too. And once again another great video. I really do enjoy watching you guys figure things out. Keep up the good work.
Love the homage to Mustie1! You guys CZcams channels are certainly inspirational. Add Scott and Coldwarmotors to the equation and you have my favourite three channels! Look forward to every video! Thanks Wes.
Thanks!
I'm still surprised that you only have 60k subscribers. Your work and content is just as good as Car Wizard, VinWiki, Project farm and Cleese McFarland.
You deserve way more views my good sir and I'll help spread the word.
I don't know. I suspect it's partly that I don't like to dumb down my content, so it probably goes over the heads of people who are not mechanics or interested in the technical mumbo jumbo. But, I'm getting close to 70K!
@@WatchWesWork keep doing what you are doing its perfectly fine. I watch vice grip garage and you can tell he knows his stuff but he dumbs it down and plays the fool to much sometimes.
I leanred a thing or two on this. Thank you...keep the videos coming. enjoy them
I love when I buy the same old stuff as you. Really helps me repair. Love your videos man!
@15:15 A Mustie1 moment "Lets dribble a little gas into the cylinder" :D
I was expecting a mouse to go flying across the garage 😂😂😂
Me to
Yep...either out the exhaust pipe or out of the CVT cover haha
Nice video and great work!
I'm finishing up the revival of a Polaris Sportsman 500 HO that spent 7 years outside. The primary clutches tend to develop a ridge at the bottom of the sheaves where the belt doesn't make contact and causes them to catch the belt at idle, especially with a new belt.
Wes, thanks for sharing, learning a ton about rebuilding ATV"s.
When automotive/vehicle mechanics start training, when does the Flora and Fauna training start 🤔.
Great vlog Wes, your son will riding it soon. Lol.
Thanks for sharing.
Good question!
Love your videos and commentary. If you use mixed gas and the oil injection system is working, that may account for excessive smoke in the exhaust. Just my thoughts. I would be interested in knowing what you find out about that.
As always you brought something back from the dead!! Great job!! Only wish you had continued with repairs to/replacement of the master cylinder, calipers, the chain, the tires, putting on a new seat, working on the headlights, etc.
Hey Wes... As an OHV Mechanic in Florida, I am sure enjoying the quad repair videos! Thanks for taking in the time!
Glad you like them!
Thanks a million for your videos, I really enjoy watching them. With Austria going into the second Corona Lockdown, this is something to cherish!
A note on cleaning up mice nests: PLEASE wear a FFP2 mask, and don't spread the stuff with the compressed air hose. Mouse shit is poison for your health...(pure self interest here: keep them videos coming, don't get sick ;) ;) ;))
Great episode Wes. I am not a mechanic but was wondering, would extra oil from the automatic oiler + the premixed gas and oil cause the mosquito truck affect?
Hey Wes, another great video! You never fail to entertain me! Thanks!
All right! All elements included, including a Robin moment! Great clip!
Yes! The Robin Cam!
We Wes I can smell the mice from here
It's pretty bad.
Every time I see Wes, Mustie or Teryl deal with mice nests wonder why you guys dont wear a respirator. Good job though Wes, you obviously are not the squeamish type!
I can smell the exhaust. 😷
Carb says "MIC" ...what you can't see is it continues "KEY MOUSE."
That was my first thought.
I was going to say the same thing!! LOL
I caught myself backing up from the computer screen when you pulled that drive cover off! Wooweeeeeeee! Ohhhhh the smell! And the Mustie1 references, all gold!
You do amazing work .Good luck with your project . Now the whole family can go riding
I was expecting a “there’s your problem, lady” when the trans cover came off.
Best line on CZcams.
Some Mikuni carbs do have "MIC" stamped on them so it's probably a legit piece.
Dido on that! forgot to mention on my comment.
Love your vids Wes, greatly appreciate your time.
Glad you like them!
I watch both your and Hamilton farms. Both are great.
One conclusion I have drawn from all this is that Mouse Piss is Corrosive along with being Gross!
More smoke than an Amsterdam coffee house...yikes!
I suspect some of the smoke indicates the oil injection does in fact work.
Just good for it after all that siting
2 stroke
Love watching Hank , he popped up on my suggested videos . And that cheese eater line gets me laughing everytime . Cheers Wes love your channel .
You just took me down memory lane. Back in 1991 I was on the SAE formula car team at CSU. We built a car for the mid-west competition and it had a water cooled BMW K75 motorcycle engine with the same stock Polaris CVT transmission from a snowmobile. Thanks man!
Cool!
It’s alive........ITS ALIVE HAHAHA
Always a good time watching you work! Keep on talkin brother😂
Hi Wes. Missed the premiere. Though I am happy to wake up with a hot coffee and a video WWW : ) Great trouble shooting and has always I liked, shared. All my best.
Machine-repair videos are ALWAYS more enjoyable when you include snippets of family-time wif da cute kiddos :D
Great video! Made my day. Can’t wait to see what is next.
Hey Wes, at least now you have a way to control you're bug problems. LOL. Great video, enjoyed it greatly. Keep us up to date on it please.
Alright, found another Mustie1 to watch.
This is the second of his I'll have watched.
I'm sure I'll be watching lots more of them.
Great job getting that ATV back to life.
Yes, I clicked on that subscribe icon.
That double float in the bowl is so when the vehicle is canted on rough terrain it won't bog down, at least that's what I believe to be the case. Love the videos and your breadth of knowledge is amazing! Thanks
I owned a 1978 Polaris Gemini 250. It absolutely ripped. Bombed through trails and had AMAZING floatation. Bringing bringgggggg. Love the 2 stroke sound. In the future save yourself alot work and start with a compression check. It would be a shame to do all the work for nothing. Great video. Rudy from NH
Nice job Wes, I am already subbed to Hank over at Hamiltonville Farm and agree its a great channel too.Cheers.
Hi Wes, if you care about the hose sticking out like that,,I'd think if you either reroute the hose to wrap counter clockwise direction to the valve, or just turn the tank clockwise until the hose is tightened up against the tank... Your welcome 😊👍 Thanx for your great content, happy upcoming Easter!
Another great video my friend nice to see the family 👍
another runner 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Nice plug there with Hank! I've already been watching him and really enjoy his channel. He also has a lot of interaction with his viewers and commenters oh, I'm sure that will change however the more viewers that he gets and more comments that he gets
Well that's how it goes I guess. His channel is growing fast.
I lived in Oklahoma for 9 years . Same flat ground. The wind kept blowing 24 hrs a day. Patio doors sang all of the time. Fun place!! Weather changes of 40F in hours. Plus big tornadoes. Fun Fun
Thumbs up 👍 good to see going through the process. To find a way out of the situation.
That's probably the best explanation of CDI.. I finally get it.. but just in case, can you break out the crayons for me? This is why I vote for you to talk on your videos.
It's a pretty simple system, but kind of backwards of normal ignition.
Mustie special! LOVE IT! Including the "Its ALIVE !" laugh.
Think I just got Hantavirus through my screen when you opened that cover....Damn critters!!! Oddly satisfying watching the cleanup though:)
Well, it goes but I’m guessing by the distinct lack of brake fluid reservoir cover it won’t be stopping so quick. Thanks for the entertainment. Keep them coming Wes. 👍
Thoroughly enjoyable Wes , thank you so much, so nice to watch , you are a clever Trevor Ha Ha . Regards Clive
Glad you enjoyed it!
I laughed out loud when you said it works backwards like a magnito. Mag systems are the only thing I work on so to me everything else is oddball! Great video as usual. The explanation you do is great, it helps me understand and gives me some knowledge to start working on newer engines and equipment.
I just got one of these for free. It has not run for 10yr plus and I followed your video to get it running. Thank you for your help
I love the videos and I'm finding it really helpful ,im currently working on a barn find polaris trail boss 250 2x4 for my first atv
Another great video thanks for all of your knowledge
Great video! The jokes just get better and better. If you do a part two, and have time please do one of your drawings and explanation on how the clutch works.
Heh. It's a very simple CVT setup.
It looked like a smoke bomb out. Max wasn't of all that smoke. Them mice had a hay day in there. Surprised none came running out. Great video thanks for sharing.
CDI explained Best I have ever Heard Thank you
Great restoration! Keep laughing as it adds color to your work. Nice to see Iowa ingenuity still exists. Always enjoy your football teams when they come to Penn State to play. Excellent Americans that are true patriots. Enjoyed this very much! Thanks
I was dying laughing through most of the video. What really got me laughing was when the stuff on the atv fell off. I swear it would be one of your vids if stuff didn’t fall off something or the family comes in to see you lol. Great vid Wes. Oh I am subscribed to hamiltonvile farm. Thanks for the invite tho. Mustie1 is magic lol
Barn finds are always soooo much fun, I just found a polaris trailboss 350l that hadn't been touched in 4 years
I bought a 2002 Polaris ATV little while ago with the same engine as a quarantine project. It had caught fire and done some damage. New wiring harness, plastics and a couple other parts and it started right up. Super fun

It’s a classic two stroke Mikuni. They all had MIC on them. Two strokes always just make you laugh. Love mine! Enjoy!
Wes& Musti 1 what a team ,great video 👍👍
Thanks 👍
I was watching Hanks channel and he said to check out yours, great job...
I know you keep saying you can't make an interesting carb rebuild but I am here to say IMHO yes you can. haha Thanks for another great video.
very worthwhile description of CDI system.
All the good stuff....a will it start video. An unboxing video. A mouse nest video.....if only we had a pressure washing segment! Thanks for doing these, lots of fun.
Coming soon!
Mighta shoulda started that puppy outside the first time. Love your laughing when pulling the cover off the mouse condo. :-)
Gday Wes ,,
Love hearing you laughing your head off when the beast came back to life , classic .
Great to see the family helping out ,
The young fella is a real chip off the old block Wes .
The after market chinese parts are slowly getting better, and would prob be ok to to use master n slave cylinder kits to restore the brakes ,, ive had good results ..
Great episode yet again ....
Thanks Wes

Love the Mustie1 reference with the carburettor!
Great video Wes those mice sure had field day in that clutch case 👍😂
That looks like the 1993 Trailblazer. You gotta love the Mikuni carburetor.
Lol at going all "Mustie1" on the carburetor! Love that guy.
Love that you watch Mustie1 too, he taught me a lot about small motors.
Hey Wes make sure the vent hose for the oil tank is not plugged on the trail boss I fixed one up that was sitting for a while and the vent was plugged. Causes a vacuum in oil tank and the motor burns out. Also you put bigger bolt in center of the clutch to get the clutch off. love your videos always learn lots
Seeing that thing mosquito fog your shop cracked me up! Good work!
Thanks 👍
Great video. I was surprised you didn't try the old DUCK-TAPE on the battery trick. (Rolling my eye's now!) I've never seen so much mice material come out of any vehicle like this one. This should qualify for Guinness World Record for something. LOL
Good save, Wes! Yes, lots to do yet but maybe at least the rear brake system can be cleaned out and made to work. It would be a good parts buggy/runner or mobile service robot anyway. I'd hope to find a similar barn find/save in my area. Could definitely put one to use! Good video!
