I am from the philippines in 1971 I was in ROTC ranger training course which the ROTC were mobilized used to protect the presidential election which that time I voluntered to ensure clean and honest election and my outfit was assigned in the northern province where terrorism was prevalent during election, we were issued garand unfortunately our polling place were attacked by the goons of the political candidate. The garand was so effective I spent several clips repulsing the attackers who scamper in the ricefields.I was sure I hit some of them which they were carried by their comrades when they escaped. My point is the same garand that you americans are buying now because I read that more 80,000 garands were returned to USA from the Phils. Who knows one of them I used during that election.

Yes it’s heavy, comes in right at 10 lbs. yours is beautiful. Enjoy. By the way I picked up a few more enbloc clips at a gun show for just a few dollars each.

This is not an m1 carbine it’s a m1 grand.
They both are completely different the grande shoot a more bigger 30.06 and the m1 carbine shoots the 30 carbine round which is smaller.
The m1 grand is bigger and more powerful the m1 carbine is shorter and less powerful but it’s still a very good carbine.
Two different guns they have some similar looks but they are different.

Paul, appreciate your enthusiasm and background on the purchase, but would really value a closeup look at the rifle, especially close ups of the bottom metal and (stamped) trigger guard and housing, gas cylinder and lock, front sight, buttstock, etc. Also more of the receiver looking down onto it and into the open action, (with bit of tape over the last 4 digits of the serial number, you don’t need to block the whole thing.)
FYI, my Expert is also an SA from January of 1944, exactly one year earlier than yours. It’s a bit of the luck of the draw on these, and fit and finish has nothing really to do with date of mfr. For instance I also got an International Harvester M1 Expert from them a few months ago, one of the last M1’s made in the 1950’s (July of 1954 for mine with serial number within a few digits of 5,000,000), and it has far more pitting than either of our SA’s, so it could have been one returned that we loaned to Denmark, or the Philippines, or other hard use area, you never know.
The Experts are new Boyd stocks and new Criterion barrels, and most of the parts will be re-parkerized giving that beautiful gray finish.
You have some beautiful wood there, and you can really make it pop with a light 150 grain sanding and boiled linseed oil treatment, or even strip the old factory finish off and restain it with an alcohol-based stain for best results. Check out the CMP Forum for a huge amount of info on all that and the rifle. One thing, the Boyd’s stocks are oversized, giving you that extra wood below and around the buttplate, and I slimmed all that down to make for a seamless wood to metal fit. Your call, it really looks fine the way it ships.
A lot of guys get the green web sling, but I shoot mine in CMP matches so opted for a leather Model 1907 service rifle sling. There are a lot of them, for years I bought the Brownell’s Competitor Plus sling, but they are a bit “springy” and after I found a Ron Brown sling I stopped looking, they’re that good.
One thing, the original M1 Ball ammo this rifle was designed for was hotter 174 grain and was later reduced to the 150 grain M2 ball, so despite all the urban legends out there it’s pretty safe to shoot modern factory ammo in it as is, as it was built for the hotter ammo. However, for a good margin of error and peace of mind, I install a Schuster ported gas plug in mine anyway, just in case; it’s $40 well spent. The extra volume gives the gas more space to work and softens recoil, allowing you to shoot whatever you want in it. Garandgear also makes one, and Schuster makes an adjustable one as well so you can adjust to your specific load if you want, or to a handload.
Anyway, too much info, but got a kick out of seeing your nice rifle, but was just hoping for more closeups. That flambeau case is new by the way, not what I got 6 months ago even, and it looks like it gives you a lot more room for accessories.
    Thanks for sharing!

Trigger warning aside, and maybe for good reasons, I admit I do appreciate vintage firearms. A revolver or lever action rifle....my personal favorite would be the Winchester 1883.
I do admit the M1 does appeal to me in so much as its historical spot in American History. Its accuracy and the cute little way it alerts you the clip is empty. I dont theing there is another firearm out there that makes that clinking sound as the clip is ejected. (Yes, I called it cute. Whatever.)
Personally Id have opted for one that looks as old as they are. A worn stock darked by decades of use. Pock marked wood worn down from countless hours of use. Although I admit that would be almost too dark knowing the majority of the worn marks would indicate how many lives were ended at the end of its muzzle or perhaps bayonette.
Anymore, discussing firearms at length is a red flag just because there are so many people willing to pick one up rather than solve issues with common sense.
That said....I did giggle when you said you "finally pulled the trigger" to buy this. Well played Paul. Well played.
I look forward to your video trying it out.

We never know what your going to get into but I like it, from guitars 🎸 to cereal 🥣 assortments to vacuum systems unboxings you still make it interesting. But this one throws it over the top. I never knew this was possible. There are plenty military suppliers/surplus places you can get clips, sling, and other accessories.
I knew outdated weapons went to other countries for other army's but didn't know they came back.
This is one of your best videos EVER 😃‼️
I wish they could do this for the M16, understandablely they would disable the automatic fire on it. Being in the Army 🪖'77-'80 National Guard '83-'90 Air Force Reserve '90-'94 I've learned to enjoy firing it, trouble is finding a range with pop up target's at least 200 meters to fire it.
