- Dan-Air Flight 1008 was a fatal accident involving a Boeing 727-46 jet aircraft operated by Dan Air Services Limited on an unscheduled international passenger service from Manchester to Tenerife. The crash occurred on 25 April 1980 in a forest on Tenerife's Mount La Esperanza when the aircraft's flight deck crew wrongly executed an unpublished holding pattern in an area of very high ground; it resulted in the aircraft's destruction and the deaths of all 146 on board (138 passengers and eight crew).
Flight 1008 was Dan-Air's second major accident in 10 years and the worst accident involving the deaths of fare-paying passengers in the airline's entire history.

That 'two hundered and thirty three knots' wind is going to be a challenge to land a "Boeing seven hundred and twenty sevel to one hundred' aircraft in.
"Runway 12, wind two hundred and thirty three knots..." Can't blame the robot for that.
how will be correct? Isn't it possible to convert wind meters per second into knots?
233 knot wind? No wonder they crashed.
This channel is just terrible . .. I mean even the title makes no sense ..a total of 146 people lost there lives that day .😢 . There are so many other aircraft dedicated channels that are amazing why bother with this ..
I read different info about this old CFIT. Basically that the pilots had a published approach they should have followed despite they flew many times in this area. And then the controller told them there was another type of holding pattern around the "FP" beacon that allowed them to arrive earlier. He proposed this choice to the crew and they accepted it. The problem was, only a small general aviation craft or a very nimble WWII fighter could have flown this unpublished way. It was impossible for a 727 to turn that tight. The crew lost its way and eventually, indeed, ventured blindly (flying in a cloud) over a high terrain area. The 727 hit the Mount La Esperanza at 13:21:15 local time at around 5.000 ft high.
You didn't have to agree with the dispatcher! Would be alive!
A very sad story
thanks for your work! very intersting video
Thank you!
Seven hundred and twenty seven to one hundred? Ridiculous
Beautifully spoken. It was nice to hear one of these that was done in our language, not British as most of them are. Thank you thank you thank you!
There is no such language as 'British' ??
I have previously heard CZcams versions in English & also Spanish - which were superior in accuracy & detail.
Of course, it's much better to have an ENGLISH disaster told to us in american.🤣
@@nm628679c there is not a language called American🤷🤣
British isn't a language It's all English lol
Los Rodeos airport had a dodgy history, especially after the PanAm/KLM Jumbo disaster in 1977.Too prone to fog.Long since closed and relocated. Not soon enough to help prevent this Dan Air crash unfortunately,
Yes! Persistent fog is typical for this airport.
Its not closed or moved. Its still heavily used too.
thanks to the author for the work 🔥
Thank you!👍🏻
Thanks to the author.
Once more one understands why through imposed CRM procedures most of such incapable, idiotic morons of Captains are not put anymore in a position to harm and kill by their abysmal incompetence while relying on the belief they know better due to their rank.
Thank you! Glad to! The overconfidence of the captain and the incorrectly distributed duties in the crew have always been a big problem.
The CRM procedures started to get implemented (VERY progressively) only two years before this crash - despite the experience of U.S. bombers during the war when it came to pair different kinds of pilots in the same cockpit.
Beautifully spoken??? The commentary is nonsensical. FP, Altitude 196ft? Nonsense. This never happened.
Cannot stomach the robot. Sorry.
The controller told them to turn left, where they had to make a right turn........
....the computer generated dialog makes these videos unwatchable.
Not clear speech or translation?
@@LOSTaircrash I guess we can rule out that he didnt like the translation, since wikipedia articles know how to english. Or did you paste the russian one into google translate and fed that to the AI voice generator? maybe you just write your own one and read it into your mic like the people who actualy put hours of work into their videos. yikes.
That , must have been something to see - wow !
We called it dan dare back in the day
Yes, first time I flew I flew dan dare and I remember facing backwards too?
This voice over is so annoying
Please subtitles and music
Can't pass the bot voice. :/
Is this text to voice?
Sounds like it, eh?
Sure is.
Very sad story.
Unfortunately yes
Wind 233 knots. That's funny.
how will be correct? Isn't it possible to convert wind meters per second into knots?
@@alexabc3218 233 Knots = 268 MPH or 119.86m/s, approximately.
A 727 can not land at anywhere near those wind speeds. In fact any airport with those winds would be closed. Those winds speeds are nearly double a category 5 Hurricane. Most likely the wind speed was 23 (maybe 33) knots. But certainly, were not at 233 knots.
Very well made video. Just the 233 is incorrect. I did a quick search to see if I could find the conditions at Tenerife for that day, but didn't see the wind speed listed. It is probably available somewhere, I didn't find it.
My cousin was on that flight ✈️ 😭
My condolences to your family
Oooopps ! Terrain …
Sorry but not a very accurate record of the event, previous CZcams footage/coverage was much better and in better detail.
You failed to cover many key points here.
4/10
What game is this made on? Cause I want to play it.
Simulator Xplane 11
@@LOSTaircrash I have Steam on my Windows 10 computer but where do I get the Boeing 727?
It was the controller Fault also … !!!
Yes that's right
The time for the flight to take is more than 3,000 hours - are you sure???
3000 is the watch worn by the co-pilot
Total
3400+ hours in total flight time for the co pilot.
That's not the flight time. That's the co pilot total flight time. ( He's experience)
@@TheAazah Oh, OK thanks.
The narrator sounds like the Rabbi on Seinfeld!!
