@@Toks39 Obviously something went on in Qatar. He was taken as a 4th choice right back and 6th choice CB after a long hard season. So are there always 3 injuries for the same position? He had to have said something to the manager like, "Am I just going to waste my time? And imagine what all those CBs thought about Southgate putting Maguire in game after game when he was utter garbage the whole tournament! And Maguire is in the squad again????? I'd be saying F that, no matter how much I wanted to play for England.

Lots of reporting White felt mistreated by Southgate's assistant coach Steve Holland. Southgate tried to put this all on White, which is unfair. Plus, Southgate has his favorites and continues to pick and play them even when they aren't performing.

Clearly this isn't simply Ben White not wanting to represent his country, it's a deeper issue between Gareth Southgate (his team) and Ben White. England's probably got the greatest depth of talent (in every position on the pitch) in living memory, but with Gareth Southgate at the helm, we'll never win anything.

Where is the criticism of Southgate in all of this? Top managers (Bielsa, Arteta) have no problem with White and play him every week. This is the same Southgate that started Henderson and Maguire in a World Cup QF against France (that we lost) whilst Trent and Madders were unused substitutes.

Its clearly not about playing for England per se, its the management regime in place that he has issues with. He was stoked on his first call up. It must be driving him nuts seeing how England football is being run.

Ben White knows all those thing you guys are talking about here. He definitely wants to play at the highest level and represent his country. Conclusion is, something major that he doesn’t like with Southgate and his team, for him to pull out of the World Cup squad and ask to be sent home. Thing is, neither Southgate nor White is telling us what it is or what happened over there. Before we know the full story let’s hold back with the criticism. Don’t just say what you would have done, that’s you not him, you can’t expect the whole world to do what you do, people are different and feel differently about different things.
If he doesn't want to play then he doesn't want to play, it's not a big deal, there are other players who want to play, move on.
Is it really playing for England or helping those who play for England play? The guy is at the peak of his powers but he knows he is the 4th in line, when will you ever be considered apart from playing friendlies and qualification matches.
Why go when he knows, without a doubt, that Southgate will pick Maguire over him, not matter how he or Maguire is playing, while he can rest up and keep his mind on what lies ahead for his club, in the last leg of this season? If he had a fair chance of playing then you could say that he is wrong not to go with England.

Theres clearly been an issue between him and the coaching staff, so he's actually made a good decision as removing himself from the environment doesn't bring down any morale as he clearly doesn't agree with the staff decisions. In my opinion he left the squad mid tournament cause something happened between him and the staff before. He would definitely let himself available once Southgate leaves.
If I were Ben, I will make the same decision. Southgate will choose his favourite Harry McGuire to play even if Harry isn’t playing regularly in MU. Ben White will be benched again till the end. Southgate has his favourite players, he will not play the others no matter how good form they were in. The others are there to make up the required numbers.

I am from Romania and we had some powerful players like Hagi (Barca Captain).In his time putting the national t-shirt was his most powerful motivation. He live for the National team
