    Not a question of which is better, they are not designed for the same use. The orbital is better for sanding large areas and not leaving any swirl marks. The palm sander is for lighter duty finish work typically over smaller areas.

      u can use the palm sander for the same things you can use the orbital and if ur making swirl marks use a higher grit or stop edging 😂

      So you’re saying the random orbital sander is better at large areas AND it doesn’t leave swirl marks? Sounds like a winner to me lol

    I purchased a used one as the piece is a bit pricey, but the machine czcams.com/users/postUgkxG6fbm3cHBd7CNTjk5D-dwYe9c9tCB9ZN has surpassed my expectations. We sand small parts by hand often, sized around 1"x1/2," and specifically look for a piece that's designed to be vertical. The motor has plenty of torque and great speed settings. The only inconvenience I had is that the disk measures 5" where we trim 6" stick-and-sand disks down easily by mounting it then cutting with a box cutter.

    You've compared 2 different sanders and 2 different sandpapers simultaneously, so you can't really draw performance conclusions. The 3M sandpaper is far superior to whatever comes with the Black and Decker. The newer ceramic based 3M sandpapers (especially the net/mesh style) are especially great. Cubitron branded 3M

    You can tilt a random orbit sander to hit tough spots. Gives you more pressure at the edge. Have done this for twenty years without issue.

    • @DIYMAN
      @DIYMAN  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the comment! I was able to put some pressure on the edge of the random orbital sander but not quite as much as the palm sander because that is when the sandpaper started to walk on me. Do you have an issue with this? If not, what brand of sandpaper do you use?

      My dear sir, if you have done this and leave a flawless finish, you are amazing. I am a hobbyist and a relatively new to woodworking.
      I will make this quick and easy, I dont have the guts to try that stunt sir. I am too scared to ruin my Pieces.

    If you can only buy one, get the 1/4 sheet palm sander simply because you can tackle large areas too. The square shape lets you get into corners. Orbitals have a tendency to wander all over the place. If you get both, that's ideal. Wait for deals .

    I don’t understand this video. Asking which sander is better is like asking which one is better, a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck. Depends on the intended use.
    Random Orbital and 1/4 sheet finishing sanders are intended for different applications

    Looking at palm sander your Dewalt or harder to get Makita BO4556K [dust bag issue small diameter connection ] or the also hard to get expensive Bosch GSS 140-1A.
    How well does the Dewalt collect dust ?? Other reviews say its a problem , do u agree ??

      @@DIYMAN hi Just purchased the Dewalt collects dust like my 6inch Random orbital 50-70% . Dust collection 8 outta 10 . Bag attachment is way way better than Makita [small hole=hard to empty with only a spring retainer clip]. Paint prep 8 outta 10 . Gets the job done just a little slow [ to be expected ] . Good Long cord . Paper install good . Good power does NOT load motor when used with 60g paper .
      Cheers for your help .

    So do you think that the palm sander would be better to use over the orbital sander to sand the fascia boards around my house? I always hear that orbital Sanders can leave swirl marks in the wood, what do you suggest sir?

    • @DIYMAN
      @DIYMAN  Před rokem

      Yes. They can both leave marks like that, but it’s a lot easier to sand with the grain with a palm sander

    • @PropurtysChannel
      @PropurtysChannel Před 6 měsíci

      Sorry for late comment. Just wanted to clarify, a random orbital sander is supposed to remove most visible swirl patterns due to its random nature.
      A regular orbital sander is essentially the same as a palm sander I'm pretty sure.
      So to limit swirls, random orbital is likely your best bet.

    Nije pošteno. Dvije vrste brusnog papira (60 i 120) od dva različita proizvođača. Ko se imalo razumije u obradu drveta znao je u startu koji će biti rezultat ali ne zbog stroja nego zbog papira.

  • @neog3461
    @neog3461 Před rokem

    This is totally wrong i think. Especially when using large grit sand papers. Orbit sander is better in that case and for finishing purposes(using fine sand papers) sheet sander is better.
    (I don't have much experience but this is what I felt)

  • @RechadTheArtist1980

    Definitely not a good comparison those Sanders are two different Sanders for a reason🤣..... then you're going to put a Black & Decker up against a DeWalt??? Laughs out Loud..... you might want to throw that lil $29 orange thing away and get you a real orbital Sander atleast Dewalt or Makita.... and if your balling get you a Mirka sander..... but anyhow keep up the awesome consumer reporting👍🏽💯
