AMPUTEE WALKS FOR THE FIRST TIME On Prosthetic Leg After Elective Amputation. Making my prosthetic!

  • This is the day I have been waiting for for 11 years! The day I walk without pain.
    John Hattingh CP, CPO(SA), LPO at Prosthetic Care Facility Of Virginia, worked his magic to make me an incredible pain-free prosthetic. Their office is welcoming, professional, and Detailed! I highly recommend them. In fact, if I ever move away, I will fly to my prosthetic appointments to continue my care at this facility!
    Darren Hattingh shows my son, Jace, the entire process of making a prosthetic, from casting to molding. We were delighted to see the process of creating a prosthetic from scratch!
    Once the prosthetic was made, my All-Pro Foot was overnighted, and I returned the next morning for my fitting. This took several hours because there were adjustments that had to be made.
    The height of my prosthesis was perfectly balanced for my hips to be aligned, with no need for adjustments. My foot is yet to be determined, but I will most likely keep it since it is the highest recommended for my activity level and comes with high reviews.
    The outer shell of my test socket is hard plastic. It is very heavy, but it can be heated up and shaped accordingly. I will keep this test socket for several weeks. They will make minor adjustments as my residual limb changes.
    Once my limb stabilizes, I will get my final carbon fiber socket. It will be much lighter, more durable, and a design of my choice.
    Taking my first steps in my new prosthetic limb (prosthesis) was scary, exciting, and slightly unstable. But as I kept walking, it seemed to become a part of me. There were several adjustments to the outer plastic socket that needed to be made.
    I was in the office for my fitting for a total of 3 hours. I left his office without restrictions and was told to call if I have any pain at all or losing suction. This would indicate my limb has changed, and I require an adjustment.
    Subscribe now to continue watching my limb loss journey unfold to new highs I've never been able to reach and greater depths in this new life without pain!

    I've been so excited to witness this moment that I kept checking the channel EVERY day this past week! I'm sooooo happy to see you take these first few steps on a prosthesis. The joy on your face was worth the wait. You have a long way to go but you are well on your way to improved independence...without pain. I will continue to keep you in prayer and travel with you on this journey as I wait for mine to begin. Your progress is giving me increased hope. God bless you!

      Oh thank you!! I upload every Sunday at 10 am. If I have a special one I’ll upload sooner. (I have one coming in a few days of the first days with prosthetic)
      It is not at all what I expected. None of this is. It takes a lot of concentration to walk right now. I have to remember to stand up straight, follow through and lock my numb knee so I don’t fall.
      I’m pulling for you!! Keep gathering information. It will make it 10x easier when it’s time. Just remember it’s never back to normal. It’s a new normal. I had a friend tell me that before I amputated and it keeps ringing true everyday.
      God bless lady!! 🙏

    The vaccum is created in every step. Instead of just on a pin. Tbe pressure is all round your stump
    The owner of my prosthetic was hung upside down and his leg never came off or losen up. Take your time and listen to the prosthetic company. I wear mine between 13 to 15 hourd a day. Stay safe and hop on

  • @kainicole797
    @kainicole797 Před 2 lety +1

    Wait, is that a vacuum sealed socket? My prosthetist told me all amputees have to start with pin/lock system first because our stumps shrink so much in the first year! Is that outdated info?
    You look awesome! Congrats!

    • @ElectiveAmputation
      @ElectiveAmputation  Před 2 lety

      Yes it is a suction socket. I’m not sure of the rules. My prosthetist didn’t mention what yours did. He did mention I will need my socket adjusted several times until my limb stops changing. I think with pin-lock, you have more grace with adding or subtracting socks. I’m sure they each have the things they prefer for their patients. Are you a new amputee?
