- Musician Jon Batiste has a long history of appearing at the Aspen Ideas Festival, not only playing his unique form of jazz but also musically commemorating the greats of the genre. This thoughtful young talent, who at age 33 has already received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Jazz Museum, shares a special performance from his empty studio in New York City. Batiste reflects on his Festival appearances and reminds us why music is so integral to moments of significant cultural change. He shares notes from his composition “American Symphony” - which reinterprets classic genres and asks: Are we ready to change?

Jon is not just a musician or a pianist - he is a philosopher
I love the way he explains music to other people. It is not about the technical aspects of music. It is about the humanity in the world. He is brilliant and so relatable. He is using his gift to serve other people.
Jon, you are truly anointed by God. May your music continue to inspire and transform us. Can't wait till this pandemic is over and I can see you perform live in NOLA.
Cold blooded “don’t stop.”
Purely and brilliantly done! 💗

I have been knowing this peace since 70 years. Called "Moonshine Serenade", by Beethoven or similar.
Moonlight Sonata? So peaceful.
@@debbiet463 Yes. Immortal. You need not name it, you may play it on the piano, even singing quartertones along.
Jon thank you for the answer, purple mountain majesty! Every state should be purple. We need to raise more fields of grain and have cities and towns with food scapes like fruit trees. If anyone can find cohesion it’s you. True Aloha
