Access to justice is a fundamental right, not a privilege. When courts fail to deliver justice to billions of people across the country, it is not only a miscarriage of justice but also a contempt of oath by the very institutions sworn to uphold the law.
The oath taken by judges and court officials is to administer justice without fear or favor, to uphold the Constitution, and to protect the rights of all citizens. When they fail to do so, they betray the trust placed in them and undermine the rule of law.
Denying justice to marginalized communities, vulnerable populations, and those who cannot access legal representation is a systemic failure that perpetuates inequality and entrenches injustice.
Courts must recognize their role in perpetuating this injustice and take corrective measures to address the systemic barriers that prevent equal access to justice. This includes addressing issues of judicial bias, lack of diversity, and inadequate legal aid.
Justice delayed is justice denied. It is time for courts to acknowledge their responsibility in perpetuating this denial and work towards a more inclusive and equitable justice system that truly serves all.
