  • Indian Steam Heritage - AKBAR WP-7161. Manufactured at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works and christened as "AKBAR" after the name of Mughal Emperor AKBAR WP-7161 is almost a 50 Years Old Locomotive. AKBAR is presently hauling the Only Steam Train Of India. WP 7161 inducted into active service in 1965, this locomotive was homed at Saharanpur shed and gave distinguished service to IR before being phased out from active service. This Locomotive is christened â AKBARâ , after the great Mughal Emperor.
    It made it more significant , that end of Steam at Wankaner was not to be a an absolute full stop of all steam activities on Indian Raiways.
    The Steam Engine is important because it made rapid mass transportation and communication possible as had been never before possible. It permitted then a radical expansion of commerce.
    The Steam Engine is the architectural equivalent of the Taj Mahal , important because , for worse , ina world where no one has the last word.
