    This is great. Thanks for the info. It hasn’t put me off. Maybe the toilet but have to get used to this. I don’t mind spiders at all. So that’s ok! 😎👌🏻🙏🏻❤️

      Glad it hasn't put you off! You do get used to the toilet.... And then just really appreciate using a 'normal' one 😅

    thank you this was very helpful for me because in the next year or two im going to be selling my house to get a narrowboat and id heard of everything you mentioned except spiders and they dont really bother me as i get them in my conservatory and i leave them there because their also a great way to stop flies in the summer

    The hot water/shower situation would be very hard….I think. Really appreciated this video.

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Před rokem

      Yep it's definitely a big one to adjust to! Some boats do have hot water on demand, just depends on the set-up. But we all have to be conscious of how much is left in the water tank - forgot to mention that in the video! Thanks Donna 🙏

    You have made my mind up never to buy and live on a boat. I didn't realise the costs and the loo issues.

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Před rokem +1

      We'll do a more detailed cost video in the next few months if that might help, but yep the loo is one that you can't really get around with boatlife. For us the positives hugely outweigh the cons... but these are the honest compromises to the lifestyle!

    • @charmainejay7515
      @charmainejay7515 Před rokem

      @@thistinylife Your video is the most honest I've seen and it's much appreciated. I honestly never realised about having to have the bottom of the boat painted every 2 years. It's a great life style for people who can work from home/boat. Will you eventually upgrade to a larger boat?

    • @ladygardener100
      @ladygardener100 Před rokem

      The fifty seven foot boat is the right size for all locks and inland waterways, longer or wider restricts the boat

    • @ladygardener100
      @ladygardener100 Před rokem

      I find that the first two years are the most expensive as you are sorting out problems from previous owners. I think the cost of boating for a constant cruiser is cheaper than living onshore , marinas are expensive.

    The really really big issues for us should be; the headspace. Actually not for me, but for my husband 😉 And with two kids (one is a teenager) and two dogs, a cat and some birds it wouldn't work out

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Před rokem +2

      When we have friends over it does suddenly feel a lot smaller! But there are families that do it....widebeams are double the width and feel like floating flats - if you ever wanted to do boatlife that might be a better option 😅

  • @trevorsbarkingmadchannel4501

    Great vlog. Really interesting. Are you doing ten reasons to live on the canals ?
    Very very jealous of your lifestyle. It’s perfect. Best wishes

    Great vlog, really can relate to all points!!!! I'd delay putting out a cost of boat vs house for a while as it seems all other vloggers have done this over last few weeks... :) Rob

    One of the main reasons I don't live on my boat full time is number 7...I have four dogs, in wet weather it becomes mud central!

      Fair enough!! 4 paws takes enough time to dry 😂

    One question, what do you do with the liquids from the toilet? We have a composting toilet in our van, and we just empty it in a toilet, wherever we’re staying.

    Hi I don't know if this will work on a boat we put conkers in cupboards that are on floor level and we don't seem to get any this is not a joke 😀👍

    What is the deal with that old wood burning stove and the new regulations? Do they apply to you?
    And what about love making? Do you worry about being overheard? Does it rock the boat?

  • @jasonblackmore7631
    @jasonblackmore7631 Před rokem +2

    Are u on permanent moorings what's difference in price compared to continues crusing

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Před rokem

      We are permanent at the moment! Every one pays the standard CRT license to be on the water, and so we pay our CRT license and a mooring fee. The cost of a mooring totally depends on where you are and the facilities you get with it, whereas the CRT license is decided by the length of your boat. Ours is 57 foot - and we pay £120 a month for that 🙂

    Did you hire a boat for a holiday before deciding just to see if you got on with it?

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Před rokem

      Nope! Neither of us had ever been on a narrowboat before... We looked around one other before buying Flora, and that was the first time we'd ever stepped foot on one!

  • @sheilajoseph9953

    Thankyou, I think the only concern I would have is safety.

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Před rokem +1

      Fair enough - we've luckily never had any problems with safety! We know a few boaters that have, it can be worse in cities but we feel very safe where we are and the community looks out for each other🙂
