- I believe the Endura MT500 waterproof jacket is the best for MTB riding in the UK.
I’ve been riding with the Endura MT500 jacket for over two years now, experiencing it in a range of locations and conditions. I can say without hesitation, that it is one of my favourite pieces of mountain biking apparel.
For me, it is the clever addition of a number of practical features that make it the Endura MT500 the waterpoof jacket of choice for me when winter looms or there is precipitation in the air - we get a lot of rain in Scotland.
I’ve previously had a love/hate relationship with waterproof jackets, because the more they keep water out, the more they keep the heat in. This is especially noticeable on climbs and pushes.
However, the Endura MT500 waterproof jacket gets round this problem by providing significant venting accessed by zipped sections between the panels, it excels in keeping you dry and the venting system means you can manage the heat build up.
Also, the front venting system doubles up as a pocket system, ensuring practicality and storage options remain high. Clever placement of the vents mean you avoid water ingress when they are open and it is wet.
The weather protection has been thoroughly thought through, and the addition of hood that fits over a trail lid or full face shows how well this jacket has been thought out. We even get the inclusion of a goggles/glasses wipe and a handy storage section for a lift pass.
Finally, Velcro wrist straps mean you can add some further protection against the water.
I have washed these jackets numerous times and have only reproofed this jacket once in it’s lifetime. It still repels the water with ease. For me, the looks, comfort and fit is where it excels. Sensible sizing that means even tall and slim riders can find something that works is great and refreshing.
The fitment is fairly athletic as well, which means you don’t have baggy material waiting to get snagged on stray branches.
If you are looking for one of the best waterproof jackets for MTB, I can confidently recommend the Endura MT500.
Hopefully this video will help you find the best waterproof for riding mountain bikes in the UK.

Ive moved from Fox to Endura for most of my stuff now with no regrets. And I love the fact they repair your torn stuff for free!
Had 2x pairs of MT500 pants repaired now after running out of talent! That for me, is the deal maker!
I didn't even know they did that?! Pinning this comment to share the message!
@@streetpigeonmtbI just looked it up and they charge £15 now.
But hey, £15…. Still a bargain! 🎉
The version 1 was better in terms of the hood management. Version 2 isn't as good. The vents on version 1 were better too.
Step backwards imo. That said, support a Livi company. I've got two bottle green ones.
Nice endorsement! I have the Endura Singletrack Jacket II - from 2021 season. Still going strong, but the zip is now a bit sticky. I might just be convinced to get the MT500 now. 👍
Nice. I'm a real fan of the MT500. Deffo my favourite piece of kit. I feel like Endura are really on point these days 👍
Nice vid and mini review. I have same jacket and often overheat on climbs. But I learned something from your video 😮 I never knew the front pockets also serve as vents ! I’ve only used the armpit vents, so will try pockets open too 😂. Always kept me dry in rain, except from an absolute hell monsoon once which drenched me
Ha ha. Yeah, get all those vents open! Or ride uphill slower 🤪
Great review, love your choice of engaging music, did you use London trails in the Vid??🤭
Ha ha. Well spotted. Yup, this was all filmed London 😆
I bought a 2020 Singletrack jacket in 2021 and some Humvee trousers which are still going strong. That led me into buying a Roubaix jersey in 2022 for road riding and also moobaa socks, a Windchill softshell jacket which is brilliant and recently some mt500 spray trousers and windchill overshoes. You could say i quite like the brand 😂
And also a fs260 race cape.
Ha ha. It sounds like it. Saying that, me too!
Hi Jamie,
All my riding kit is Endura. The reason being is you have used it for some time and have alwaus endorsed it (and it's British!)
I'm waiting for a day where I can wear my Hummvee reversible jacket...... it's too wet and muddy at the moment!!
Ah mate, I have that Humvee reversible! I've just been using it as a non biking jacket. Really like it 👍👌
Better than British. It's Scottish.
lol do you want to start a war by calling it British 😂
Couldn’t agree more, recently replaced my Gore jacket with one of these and it’s way better
Yeah, it's a really top-line piece of kit IMO 👌
What part of Scotland did you film in? Simply wonderful footage.
Thank you. This was all filmed at Glentress, Peebles, in the Scottish Borders. It's a beautiful place.
New trails too.
Got one also.. love it but have problems with the heat on climbs also
Vents deffo need to be open on the climbs, especially if you are getting a push on!
@streetpigeonmtb jacket is perfect for eebb rides as u never sweat so it keeps you warm😆
@scrakymtb3495 ha ha. I should've had that as the title of the video!
Sorry if I missed it in the video but how tall are you and what size do you have?
Hey. I'm 189cm and running the large I believe 👍
Any issues wirh logos coming off?
No issues so far. Jackets have stood the test of time. Only noticeable change would be some slight colour fading through the washing 👍
@@streetpigeonmtb seems to be a real problem with lots of my endura kit, really frustrating as its the only downside
@traildogisla The jackets that I have don't have any of the white coloured logos or writing, it's more of a translucent, embossed type thing. That might make a difference 👍
What trousers do you reccomend? :)
I personally use the Endura MT500 spray and burner pants. Saying that, the cheaper Endura Singletrack are really nice also 👌
@@streetpigeonmtb I just bought some MT500 spray :) thanks
@lobyapatty nice. They should keep you sorted out on the trails 👌
Here for the London / Music comments....
Ha ha, enjoy. Given that you were responsible for the filming, can you give us insight into why you didn't use narrow FOV only 🤷♂️😆
Because it would exclusively narrow the watchers Field Of View. Then people with nothing positive in their lives and nothing better to do would then exclusively complain about this too / instead. @@streetpigeonmtb
I’m afraid I would have to disagree with this review. If there is spray from the trails then this jacket will keep you dry but if the heavens open then you will get wet. I have washed my jacket with the appropriate Nikwax wash and have used both wash in waterproofer and spray on yet this jacket still doesn’t keep me dry when it’s raining hard. Any advice? What am I missing?
Exactly ..... that's what nobody ever mentions, If you wash this product once, even carefully following all instructions, it will never be the same, or work nearly as well, ever again.
Sorry mate. I'm not sure how to advise you? I've found the jacket to be really good in wet conditions 🤷♂️
@@streetpigeonmtb Wash it and re- test it 🤷🏼♂️
@sijmes Did you watch the video? I commented that I have ran two MT500s for two years, washed numerous times, and treated. I'm not the getting the issues you talk about.
I'm not disregarding your comment, it's just that I am happy with the performance of my two jackets.
What treatment do you use? Maybe I should try a different brand.
I have this jacket, it’s ok, but there is defo better, the vents do next to nothing for heat. Light rain is fine but serious weather it will wet out, it’s as good as the other basic jackets.
you sure it's the same jacket?
@@MTBScotland very sure Iv also got the mt500 shorts and pants. Don’t get me wrong they are ok and do the job but there not the best about.
I've got the shorts as well. only thing that causes issue ids mud making my arse cold but I stay dry. I've used the MT500 II shorts and jackets for a long time and I'm always dry. @@scotty-sb1403
I've worn the mt500 jacket gen 1 and mt500 trousers in horrendous conditions and got home dry. I live on the dryer side of Peebles, but still.....
@@border304 unless the seams on my shoulders aren’t the best 🤔 who knows, still a good jacket mind, but there is better out there, it’s good for the money
Endura has the best quality too. Fox is getting flimsy and leatt sizing is all over the place.
I agree with you. I used to love the Fox stuff but it just fell apart 😕
Looks a bit short at the back.
I'm very lanky so clothing brands have a hard time with me 😆
These trails aren’t even in London! 😡
😆😆😆
Riding in the dry and telling everybody how great that waterproof jacket is, is not very convincing. 🤔👎
Yeah, not really able to film in torrential rain, nor can I predict the conditions.
Given I do this as a hobby, doesn't make sense for me to write off a camera and a drone just so that I can convince you 😀
The filming was planned for the Friday so I filmed with the conditions that were presented to me.
@@streetpigeonmtb and how does all that wide angle riding and obnoxiously loud music help to convey anything meaningful about the jacket? 🤔🚲
@gammelgemse I think it helps because it allows me to transfer information to the viewer in an engaging way.
I'm sorry this video wasn't shot in the conditions you wanted, or with the cameras you wanted, the music, or in the general style you'd wished for.
Do you have any tips for me to improve the content?
If you've nothing nice to say don't say anything 👌
The very fact he can wear the jacket in dry conditions without cooking is a very positive statement.
