No, is not always the case, one can choose to put their love one in the box and later remove the corpse to be cremated and then get a smaller box for the ashes or take the ashes elsewhere or leave the remains there for up to 20 years then move the remains in smaller box. My dad passed away 5 years ago in Italy and he was buried in the box without being cremated. We don't believe in burning the corpse, so we will continue to pay to keep him there for 15 more years and remove him to a smaller box.
