No Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero that won the Dakar Rally (toughest rally in the world) overall 12 times???
Okay, i am not gonna watch this.. Why do americans think the world revolves around them only
@@Bibekarj Real american car enthusiasts do not think the world revolves around USA. we are a small bunch that isn't vocal enough. however the rest of usa is really ignorant and eats up the 'america is the best at everything' media like a big mac and fries. apologies.
Not mentioned because not American.
@@androidbox3571 was sold in America 1982 to 2006.
Winning the dakar rally has nothing to do with offroad capability lol, even peugeot won a lot of times yet none of their vehicles can even be driven offroad
I still think the Toyota landcruser 70 series is outstanding compared to the others
No way lol, it lacks articulation, the rear track width is shorter than the front track. Not a capable 4x4 out of the box, but I can agree about it's durability being superior though
70 series is truly the #1. Look what trucks they are using in Antarctica today... It's the mission car choice of UN in africa. Australians are obsessed with it too. But apparently Ford bronco is #1. Funny thing is no one outside of USA prolly knows it :))
@@Countrysideboy247Rear is not shorter. Front is wider to fit the massive balls the truck has.
@@urbanturbine toyota, aimed at industry,,not 4x4 people. last '' decent'',, toyota, was the 80 series. but, they deleted some aspects . all after that, were trash.. a gu nissan, kills toyota.. 96.. this is why toyota use nissan parts.. i drive u.s. 4x4rs. not jeep..
@@urbanturbine Them 70 series were never known for their offroad capability. The only reason a lot of people prefer them as workhorses is mostly due to their parts availability and simplicity.
Jeep Wrangler and Toyota FJ40 should have been the top 2. Bronco #1??? No way and I’m a bronco lover. Also no love for the Mitsubishi Montero?? Monteiro won the Paris Dakar rally 12 out of the 26 times it entered, including seven in a row. Definitely deserve to be in the top 15. Maybe you should’ve kicked the Lamborghini out and put the Mitsubishi in
Am happy to see Suzuki jimny on the list. It's a true off road vehicle
I would kick out the discovery 3 (with it's major engine issues) and replace it with a Discovery 1, the model that saved land rover from bankruptcy in the 90s.
I had a Disco 1, hated it, too much body roll to even think about feeling safe, now own a Disco 3. Major engine issues plague the diesel engines not the petrol, don't put them all down because of misinformation spread by Toyota owners. Disco 3 beats the renowned 80 series by miles. Its the most capable stock from the factory 4wd out there at that time.
Sorry, anybody who claims reliability and a Rover in same sentence is just a joke. No 80 series land-cruiser, and no international harvesters!
Very true, reliability is not in the DNA of Range rover
I’m sorry. The Bronco ranked higher than the Wrangler & Defender. Credibility, lost
You missed out the landcruiser 80 series...the mother of all SUVs shown here.
If the world acclaimed LC 80 series is left out of any 4WD ranking or survey, then that's questionable! 😅
I strongly believe so.
Totally agree. The 80 series is the king of all off road vehicles. 💥
True. Solid axles, ground clearance, and legendary Toyota reliability. It will get you out wherever you want to go, and, vitally, get you back home again. I have had an 80 series for 15 years and will keep it forever! All the farmers and mining companies in Australia drive Toyota 4wd's and the UN does all over the world. They choose Toyota in preference over every other type of 4wd.👍
The Jeep is the mother of ALL SUV's . All others are just copies.
Missed Mitsubishi Pajero / Montero / Shogun generation 2, one of the best super select 4x4 with brilliant suspension setup. Also winning Dakar Rally 12 times and that still a record.
yes,,but its petrol.. no fkn good..& too small..
Blown heads and engine rebuilds?
@@harrywalker968 They are available with diesel powerplants as well.
Pajero is best, maybe from this 10 in all :)
I loved my L300 Delica, most fun I've had in a 4x4.
Lada Niva should be on the list.
It should be number 1.
Videos should be called 15 most famous off road vehicles in USA..
True
Yes
The Bronco number 1? lol no Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. All the praise for Range Rover reliability?
Yeah a jeep is great when it isnt in the shop
@@ragoonsgg589 I am sure a Range Rover is great when not in the shop as well.
Dude! That's wat I'm sayinnn
To be fair, the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are both unibody vehicles, which make them less durable compared to the others, which are all body-on-frame vehicles.
Yeah that's true but as a Land Rover owner I know that any Land Rover of the same year of any Jeep Cherokee when they're both working factory-spec the Landrover is light-years ahead in the off-road system. I drive a Land Rover Discovery Series 2. It's a 2002 model and I do not know of any early 2000 SUV that can follow me without lockers. Solid axle crazy articulation and super aggressive traction control with a manual mode in low range as torque reduction and the benefits of what Emmanuel can do like taking off in 2nd 3rd or 4th in low range and locking it in that gear for certain Terrain. Even the Toyota a track copies the old Land Rover traction control in fact the AM General Hummer in 1996 adopted the exact wabco ABS traction control that Land Rover started using on the Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38. It doesn't brakes both Wheels though it just on the axle just one and transfers the power immediately not shaking and acting weird how even new Toyotas with traction control do
The title should read "15 Best OFF ROAD Vehicles of all Time in America" because I can name 5 toyota SUV models [top 5 of your list ] that we use here in Kenya and I can guarantee you that bronco won't even come close.
Hummer has to be the funniest of them all. Especially the 2006 era. Yes I know the military ones were extremely capable. They had portal axels and all. But the kind GM tried were hilarious.
During the Second Gulf War over 100 Hummers where (well stuck) so the US Army asked the British Army for Land Rovers, but the US Army needed 200 Land Rovers.
They got 55.
@@raystewart3648land rover knock out de Hummer, make them look like joke 😅😂
@@mikeandrews6543 Americans think that bigger means better, when in reality it does not. The appellation "supercarrier" is not an official designation with any national navy, but used to hype up their importance.
@@raystewart3648 I hear you
Yeah you're right but the 2006 H1 Alpha is the original portal axle military-type but yeah the h2 + 3 and all the other ones don't count. They are a joke.
Toyota land cruiser should have been number one
You forgot the Best: The Jeep Cherokee
Well, not sure exactly what factors were considered . Safari tour operators in Africa rely on almost exclusively Toyotas, and for the few tourists, who demand a Land Rover, they charge higher prices and send a Toyota along as backup vehicle.
Exactly True In Most Of The World Bt This Is F Made For American Audience In Mind Even Mahindra Would Beat Jeep In Every Competition Thats Y They R Giving Mahindra Headache By Filing Lots Of Cases
Do you know why? The Toyota dealer network (Parts) is available every where in Africa. The video says best "off-road vehicles". Africa normally consists of dusty gravel roads not as many rock crawling and mudding exercises
@@delanobritz8679 that is certainly a factor. But anywhere in the world, you see tipically Toyota vehicles, Mitsubishi pickups, recently Ford Ranger. Also, until Belarus and Russia borders were open (I live in Germany). most stolen SUVs were the luxury models from Toyota, Mercedes, BMW. From Land Rover, only the latest and greatest bling-bling.
Lmao the most common safari tour vehicle in Africa is a Land Rover, also common overlanding vehicle in Africa is a Land Rover.
@@dannelleabajar4703 Which are you from Africa bro? Land Cruiser 70 series are used everywhere at least in East africa. I have never seen tour companies with a Land rover used for safaris.
To me personally this video is missing 2 (or 3) even more capable offroad vehicles: The Pinzgauer, (and the Haflinger) and the Volvo C303
Also the part about the Merceds G starts with an Error. At it's introduction in 1979 four different engines were offered, but not the 250GD. You could get a 230GE and 280GE as well as the 240GD and the 300GD. The 230 was a 4 cyl gasoline/petrol engine, the 280 an inline 6.
The 240 and 300 were both NA Diesels with 4 and 5 cylinder layout.
The 250GD replaced the 240GD in 1988. So 9 years after the G-class went on sale.
The second mistake: the military got their vehicles at the same time, so it wasn't after a former military vehicle. It was first develloped for the military (the Shah of Persia wanted one for his military, but after the revolution in his country Mercedes also turned to the idea of a civlian version.
Also it's not to show that Mercedes could build one, as they knew that they lacked the knowledge at the moment it all started and cooperated with offroad Sepcialist Steyr Daimler Puch in Austria. The cooperation is still ongoing today, even though the Steyr part is now owned by Magna.
But all G-classes were and are still made in the same place. In Graz, Austria.
The best car in all terrains includt all wheater, is the Mercedes G 500 and with diesel the G400.
I think the Lambo LM002 is the most impressive looking. However it appears the drivers road manners leave a lot to be desired !
So disappointed that you have not included the Mitsubishi Pajero...
yeah me too -winning the dakar 12 times proves its more than capable

Sure!
yes,,but they have in drum e brake, not a transmission brake, they deleted.. & wheel base is too short, even though they lengthened it a smidge. &, they use nissan front diffs & steering boxes,, as the std ones are weak.. watch more vids,,not advertising.. there 4.2tdi, puts out 90kw.. i have a german 4.2tdi in a ford super duty, std factory, puts out 700nm 175kw.. 2001. brazilian built. no computer, all mechanical,, bit bigger turbo.. td06..

I think some of these wide stats vehicles, like the hummer are very careful vehicles. But I have to take the long way around some of these jungles and wooded trails, and a lot of the rocky terrain are narrow.
haflinger still my favorite-if it would not go anymore 4 man easy lift it away ....
You can go anywhere in a Landrover but you need a Toyota Landcruiser to get back home.
& a nissan gu to pull the toyota out.. seeing toyota use nissan parts.. so, who wins that argument.???...i drive yank,,not jeep..
How can you have a "Best of 4 x 4" list and not mention the Unimog, which is the greatest off-road vehicle of all time?
yes, disgusting, not 1 mention of an f100 1978 4x4.. better than toyota.. built to take 400 hp. 460ci.
#5 and #15 shout out from Toledo Ohio. I've watched a few videos on this channel now and im puzzled why they have not changed the name to top 15 instead of top 5
No Pinz? Unimog?
What happened to the 70 series.
This is a classic video that hasn't done it's homework. There is a world outside of America.
The Pinz would go where other 4x4 would fail.
Go anywhere in Australia, South America, Africa or Asia and you will find the 70 series, there is a reason for that, it is one of the best 4x4's in the world
And that would be true for a Volvo Valp as well...
@@Scoubi1959 Oh yes
#1… I’m shocked! But, I get it… it’s a great vehicle. However, my favorite will always be the Toyota Land Cruiser 40. Drove one for two weeks in Costa Rica and it literally took us everywhere with ease and dependability!

Top 3 of the list for me HAD TO BE the Landcruiser + Hilux and also the Mitsubishi Pajero. but i guess we could discuss this till eternity why this or that offroader should be listed on the top ranks... all of the cars listed are amazing.... but the PAjero was clearly forgotten
❤TLC 70 Series.. the one and only😊
Think the nissan patrol
Nothing beats a Tank - however a close second would be the British Land Rover.

Where's the Pinzgauer in all the comparisons? It can go where Hummers fear to tread.
About time yall posted a good top 15 video😁. I used to have a 1991 ford bronco and i cry to this day still cuz i had to sell it in like 2005. 1972 ish to 1996 Ford Broncos are the GOATS! My goal in life is to own a white 94 bronco. OJ ...😆 my 91 was blue. And i dont know why some people are hating on Bronco i loved mine they obviously never owned one. Dont get it twisted tho im talking about bronco 1 or full size. The 2s were lame
How do you miss the Landcruiser 79 series..😲🤷🏽♂️
Maybe because they were never available in the United States? But I agree with you 100%, Landcruiser 79 series all day long.
I would have thought the Jeep would have been #1 . It was the first and it hasn't changed much in around 80 years . And it is still one of the best off-road vehicles out the box.🇺🇲
Absolutely. Especially that they still have a solid front axle, great transfer case, and you can get them with lockers
Not having changed in 80 years is part of its problem.
Most offroading Jeeps are so modified that it's not what Jeep made.
@@raymondclark1785 LOL. No, thats completely wrong. I simply put a 3 inch lift on mine, and larger tires. Thats it, and can run most trails pretty well. It came with lockers, great low gears, and a great low range transfer case. I DO NOT WANT IFS or none of that fragile crap that breaks on trails. Jeep has a given us off roaders a great package
This list is good but not truly representative of the global thinking. I can understand the Willy’s Jeep’s place in this list as if was god feather of off roading today but all the other American models dont fit on this list. The willy’s in out of the box trim is really good but extremely limited in horse power and torque for todays off roading challenges without modifications. I can understand patriotism but the facts are they dont belong on this list (apart from the willy’s jeep) unless this list is based on the American market alone. Then i would agree. But on a global scale the best Off Road vehicle is the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 series. I have owned a few of the models that you have listed in your clip (including the Willy’s) and i can tell you that the 79 series will easily out perform any of the makes or models you have presented in the off road category. Even the Russian Lada would be high on your list for its off road capabilities. I dont mean to be disrespectful with my comments. I am simply stating the facts i know on a global scale. I have done expeditions on 5 continents in every condition imaginable testing different makes and models, so i have some knowledge about off roading. Again i dont mean to be disrespectful in any away or insulting.
@@Watchinglife193expedition on 5 continents that's a lot of movement for a Toyota

Really? A Bronco? OJ mobile?
How come everyone around the world buys Toyota?
No doubt Ford Bronco is a good vehicle but putting it in front of the likes of Toyota Land cruiser, Land Rover Defender isn't justified at all.
Thank you so much. These are great vehicles. What about Boanka made in Russia? It is a very strong vehicle too. Great fir off road.
Land Cruiser es the No. 1 in the world!
landcruiser is number 1 best offroad vehicle in the list
LR indeed the best 4x4xfar ❤
LR, dash falls out, break axles. too small.. rust.. garbage.. yank sht wins. stronger, more options, lasts longer. i have a 1962 f100 4x4 v8 352 fe.. no rust, all original, still goes..
80 series Land Cruiser is top 5 in my opinion
Yes can’t believe they didn’t list that!
Yes ford bronco is very good but Mercedes, Land Rover, Toyota and Jeep are ahead of it.
How can you say that the Land Rover was the first mass produced 4X4 for civilians? The Jeep CJ2A was made at LEAST since 1946, 2 years earlier than Land Rover. And BTW, Land Rover was made from aluminum because they were bought in large numbers by sheep farmers, and aluminum didn't corrode when exposed to sheep piss.
And JEEP should have been number 1.
Everyone knows that the lancruiser 80 series is the best offroad vehicle of all time
Its just the best vehicle of all time. The more i learn about the engineering and build quality that went into landcruisers the more i am amazed they were mass produced and sold as cheaply as they were. they should have cost double or triple their msrp.
@@242tdryan nissan gu. is better, except for low range.. the toyota uses nissan steering box & front diff. cos toyotas are weak.. plus, the nissan has a transmission brake, & better wheel base.. maybe read tech books,, & not advertising bs..but, if you look at 78 f100 4x4, & compare them, the f100 wins..mechanically. design wise. if,, you know anything about how things work, move.. all f series were built to stand the biggest engine, a ford 460 ci.. 400 hp.. this, is why ford wins.. not toyota with 90kw..cv,s & fkt radius arms..

Reliability and longevity are most important to me, if your life depends on your 4x4 there's only one name: LAND CRUISER!
Number 1 BRONCO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
We now know who sponsored the video ffs )))
The List is good, but I have doubts about the ranking.
A little lada niva can out class a bronco no sweat and about half of the other vehicles listed. A little Russian powerhouse.
Sir, I think you will find the UAZ-452, aka the Buhanka is far superior.
yes,,little,, no good for 2 days away..like suzuki,,useless..
A Niva is too small for the average American and they only know automatic cars... They don't understand how a simple vehicle outperforms most of the things listed here lol, while they struggle in the mud you just pass over with a Niva and you still have some time to repair it with your hammer and sickle and drive away
That's clearly the best just for his price, capabilities and maintenance and when you go off-road with it you are not afraid to break it 🤭

why landcruisers not included...!!????😢😢
no landcruiser 200 series, 70 series!!!!!
The best allrounder and value for money has to be the Land Rover. On top of which it out does a few of the others on a lot less power. It's called engineering know how.
Value for money is Toyota, Landcruiser or Hilux - with minimal repairs or breakdowns. Life cycle value - the longest 4wd lifespan with lowest repair costs.
@@fredfred4086 not true I can point you to at least three pre 1950 land rovers still working for a living and Land Rover bodies don't rust because they are aluminium. The Land Rover also has a stronger chassis less likely to warp because it's aĺ steel box tubes. Correction it actually has a proper chassis which in the case of the Land Cruiser is a debatable point.
@@mothmagic1 It is true. Value for money is a factual, measurable thing. Ask the accountants for the numerous multi billion dollar mining companies, NGO's and the UN who choose to use Toyotas. Land Rovers are very capable 4wd's, and many companies have copied their strong design features. Reliability and product life cycle value are measurable facts - not emotional thoughts.
@1:00 - "...it was equipped with a powerful engine..." - quite the overstatement! The Willy's Overland "Go Devil" engine (2200cc flathead I4 with a 3 main-bearing crank) was rated at 60 bhp, but more likely made closer to 40 bhp in actual use. My first 600cc motorcycle engine made twice this power!
And my jeep doesn't go faster than 60kmph. 60mph with the amount of steering play and drum brakes would be suicide.
Thank you!--It's scary when someone who knows zero about vehicles he gives a "best of" platform
this list is humorous at best
Love my 92 Landcruiser.
The Bronco is #1 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I beg to disagree but to each their own
You missed the formidable Russian Lada Niva in 4x4, the Dangel Peugeot 504, a very efficient French pick-up in 4x4 admittedly not very sold between 1984 and 1994 but certainly much more sold than the Lamborghini at the astronomical price!, finally the Italian Fiat Campagnola.
Also the UAZ and GAZ series, as well as the UAZ 452, don't you think ? and where is the Sherp ?
Seems to be a selective group here with other excellent vehicles barely if at all getting honorable mention. For example, the Jeep XJ Cherokee civilized the 4x4 concept and started the SUV revolution. I personally can testified it can go anywhere you might demand of it and with not much effort. To this day the XJs are consider indestructible. Another vehicle is the Nissan XTerra. It was designed to compete with Jeep and Toyota which I can testify does quite well. Like the Jeep XJ, the XTerra is a very competent 4x4 and indestructible.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is glaringly omitted from this list, and there are at least three on this list that don't belong there. It tops the H1, Lamborghini, the Nissan, and easily the Land Rover III. And also tops the 4Runner, which it shares the entire drivetrain with but on a shorter wheelbase. I chose the FJ Cruiser to own myself and we've been building trucks professionally for generations. I call BS on this list.
The shitty Bronco as No1 and no place for the 12 times Dakar winner Pajero in the list?! Simply hilarious!
The logo on the Hilux... IYKYK
Mmmm most off-road vehicles in this video are not known world over. Making me wonder what type of criteria was used to come up with the list. For me I think the best off-road vehicle is the Toyota Land Cruiser, there is a reason why even the UN and other NGOs chose it as their primary vehicle. In that list only a few vehicles with the same pedigree as the Land Cruiser were mentioned, the Nissan Patrol, Range Rover, and Land Rover Defender, but good video enjoyed it
The UN chooses Land cruiser because it has air-conditioning - simple
When off-roading we should know the limits of vehicle, terrain and skills, where to give up, park and leave our machine (bike or 4x4) in better route and use our legs and backpack to discover some difficult routes/places. This is my sustainable off-roading conclusion. Do not be stubborn agains nature, you can’t win, cost could be painfully high.
My choice suzuki Jimny. I love this affordable, efficient and its capability. Very economical too.
Nooo.
The WW2 Jeep, was developed by Bantam, but Bantam could not meet the production numbers required by the US Army, so the contract was given to Willys Overland (producing the Willys MB Jeep) and Ford (producing the Ford GPV Jeep). Total production numbers around 650.000 during the war.
The Soviet GAZ 67, was partly build on a license of the Jeep design.
East are West Landcruiser is b❤est ever..
And what about the Unimog that is an outstanding all terrain vehicle?!!!
Lada Niva. And Mitsu Pajero/Shogun.
No Land Cruiser 70 Series? 🤦🏾♂️ LC70 with 1HZ engine should've topped the list as the best of all times.
The Rambo Lambo was a piece of junk.

Saying Land Rover and reliability in one sentence is crazy 😂😂😂
All these vehicles have classic appeal but the Landcruiser and G-wagon are in a class of their own when it comes to reliability, robustness and durability
Hilux should be higher on that list and also Mitsubishi Pajero in missing
Thx
Landcruiser is definitely #1. Toyota trucks in general: Prado, Hilux. Jeep should be a solid number two. After that its personal preference. G Wagon and Hmmwv fall not far from the top. Landrover was the first and possiblely only mfg to make a genuinely good full time 4wd system.
jeep was first. cherokee. centre diff, constant 4x4, lockers. but, had leafs.. & a 360 v8.. but hell of a vehicle..or,,you could try unimog.. for a real 4x4.. now, id be buying an iveco daily 4x4.. 50k., cheaper better than toyota..last toyota, was 95, 80 series.. all sht after that.. mate spent 140k, on a 76 seires,, extras from toyota,, & still,,got bogged,, he was 70 at the time. brand new 76 series. then fix it..
What the hell panther doing in dey 💀
Shame on you! Why is Mitsubishi not on the list?
Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero, Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series, Lada Niva 4x4...
The fact that this list does not included the Mercedes Benz Geländewagen, the most robust off road vehicle ever built, with every one of them equipped with 3 differential lockers (front, middle and rear) shows that the creator of this video is not well informed about the subject.
So typically: Anglophone hears a new word and then use it everywhere out of context. Discovery3 has unibody construction, surely not monocoque. 😂😂
No mention of the Ford Model T conversion which was produced in WW1 although it didn't see active service by the military. Way ahead of its time before the Jeep.
Also I would like to mention the Ford Ranger. Personally I think equivalent to the Toyota HiLux.
the early hilux, were renoun for rolling. & gutless.. the new are same except more power, to get you over quiker.. ifs is bs.. not real 4x4rs.. new rangers,,shiver,,stay away..
I'm guessing this was in no particular order...just randomly ranked right?

No LC 70 series and the Unimog
I think that the fact Toyota has multiple entries here speaks volumes.
toyotas brainiacs,, wanted to build a vehicle for every person, so they had the market.. lost the plot back in 92..all down hill from there..
@@harrywalker968 But on a previous comment you said that the 95 80 series was the last good Toyota. You are obviously VERY knowledgeable about 4wd's, but seem to have a love/hate relationship with Toyotas. I have owned a 1992 80 series for 15 years and will keep it forever.🙂 Peace bro.
Never heard of the Lambourgini before
