i played college soccer at utah while this case happened. it absolutely devastated the entire utah community, and especially athletics. it is so sad, she did everything she could for help. i think of her often. thank you for keeping her name and beautiful spirit alive

This case is heartbreaking, terrifying and sad. What happened to Lauren can happen to anyone she deserved so much better. Shame on her d3monic ex boyfriend and the college campus for not protecting her. My prayers are with Lauren and herfamily.
It’s so scary and sad that he controlled her by saying he wanted to make sure she was safe. She was so talented ❤RIP
They never do anything. They should take everything a person says seriously. She said she was scared something bad was going to happen.
This case always makes me so mad. Lauren did everything right, and authorities failed her. Just senseless and possibly preventable. My heart goes out to her family. 😢

I'm so glad that her parents sued them. Damn it, those officers should get together with the derelicts who didn't properly supervise Phillip Garrido. Get together and resign!!! I'm SO pissed off at them!
i really really wish lauren went back home. i know she shouldn’t have to, she was the victim here. but i just know her intuition was telling her to 💔 rest in peace lauren & shame on utah university campus police.
Wow, campus police and the SLC police department completely failed Lauren. The ones who are suppose to serve and protect didn’t do their job. This is heartbreaking and ridiculous that her reports weren’t being taken seriously. It’s a sad pattern that we unfortunately continue to see. At least fault was admitted and her parents settled but that doesn’t bring Lauren back or make up for the complete mishandling of this case by the police involved. All they had to do was a background check on this guy and could’ve arrested him on the spot. SMH.

i still remember when this all happened.. i opened twitter and saw all of these alerts, since i don't live far from campus.. and remember how terrified i was that there was someone out there with a gun and someone dead from it.. as i learned days later of what happened it just broke my heart. thank you for sharing her story

this so sad the campus police could’ve prevented this by not allowing him into the building he was going inside like he lived there was there no security in the front or something he’s such a horrible person if he was on parole why didn’t they check on him like they’re supposed to everyone failed her and it’s so sad
it’s quite surprising as in the UK all of the uni student accommodations i’ve come across have their own security teams. the ones i lived in had security on a desk you had to pass before you could enter the accommodation!
