C8 Corvette gets 2 litres of DCT fluid added through the side filler plug

  • This is the easier way of adding the 2 litres of DCT fluid. The side filler plug is easier accessed rather than taking out the airbox to access the top plug. Be careful not to drop the 17mm aluminum plug in the skid plating, it will be hard to find.

    It worked great for me, I only got to about 9 degrees,but both bottles went in. Easy peasy.

    BTW, GM tech manual says mileage will go down if you add the 2 qts. Is just for the track. I thought I would do this to my HTC, but not now.

      It’s recommended to add the extra fluid regardless if you track or not. Helps preserve the DCT

    Its a good left in back but it would of been better if you had a jack on the front too, to keep the car from torsional twist. Where the front of the tranny is lower than the back. Just a suggestion.
    May drive way is at least 5% angle going across so it will be much easier for me to do this method but, will absolutely use two jacks that I'll borrow one from my brother in law so I dont need to buy and extra one.
    Thanks for the video, cheers!

    Were you able to get your hand on the plug after you loosened it to be able to take it out and then were you able to put it back in and start to thread it with your hand?

    It's not a side "filler plug", it's the fluid level plug. There is only one filler plug which is on top of the transmission. Aside from that, this procedure is the easiest way to add the trans fluid.

    Thank-you great using your head vs the other clowns. One question what happens to the 2-liters when changing the trans-filter will it leak-out???

    I wish you had shown us how you removed the plug and got the feed tube inserted into the fill hole. Still unsure which path to take (13 degrees or total rear end/air box) disassembly. Thanks Chevy for another cheap and half azzed approach to critical maintenance.

    I am in the process of ordering a 2022 2LT with Z51 and Mag Ride. I think I finished my final spec for the build today 8/23/2021. I doubt I will track my car, but I think I’d like to know if it makes good sense to add the additional Trans fluid at the time of delivery. I believe I heard it costs about $43 per quart and it’s too expensive for GM to add it at the factory for every build.
    Just makes sense to fill it up to full capacity. Agree or disagree? What’s your opinion?

    • @mjr_c8678
      @mjr_c8678 Před 3 lety +2

      its $25/quart retail. Not expensive. GM could do it for less than $20 TOTAL from the factory. Its stupid they don't do it.

    Wow is this some bad engineering on GM's part-why is that oil fill location so buried? Contrast this with the GT500 procedure. It should have been filled with the right amount from the factory but $ and MPG ratings hold sway-freaking ridiculous. With how often you have to do this, there is no way I would want to do this the GM way risking the dealer damaging the carpet, or the air box, or any number of those wire harnesses. If you haven' t watched one of the videos on how they have to do that, you need to before bashing on this approach. Nor would I want to pay the insane labor hours associated with the "right" way after the initial complimentary one. Kudos to these guys and some others figuring out this way to do it and continuing to refine the approach.

    Not a good idea being under that car with just the hyd. jack holding it up. If you don't want to pull all the splash shields to access the other jack points, put a couple 4x4's under the the jack lifting arm in case it fails. I have several wood block combinations made up depending on the car. Good info. on adding the fluid though. Will save me from breaking something pulling that air intake!

    You should block the wheels because the jack could move and you should use a jack stand also! I would suggest never putting the weight on one corner of a frame as it can twist!🤦‍♂️Safety is ignored by two old guys!😒

    Is that a non z51? Why did you add it to a non z51? Alot of controversy and issues on the dtc.i know rick corvette conti added 2qt to his non z51 but never gave a reason why. Did you feel any difference in shift changes or any issues after?

    • @WRPDRIVE
      @WRPDRIVE  Před 3 lety

      Doesn’t matter if you have a Z51 or a non-Z51. Add the 2 litres of DCT fluid. All the cars that are having DCT issues don’t have the extra oil added. GM screwed up big time by short filling these cars.

      Why not? No different that topping up any fluids in your car. Some dealers are charging up to $500 to add the oil.
