    My advice as a gym goer (AF),
    - older and want to do workout (0600-1100)
    - 1200-1400 ( those who like to train and working near by)
    - 1500 - 1800 ( young school people)
    - 1900 - 2100 ( Those who like to train but came from work)
    - 2200 - 0500 ( Those who have trained for years and be willing to teach and will keep an eye on you so you will not hurt yourself)

    omg alison 🥺 idk if she's reading the comments but i just wanna say i relate to your experience of having slight BDD thoughts after a dentist told me to shave my jaw! i went in for a tooth extraction at a public hospital and this doctor just told me to shave my jaw cos i have a "witch's chin". i was like huh what's that, and he said "chins like yours are called witch's chin, because they protrude out like witches in the past." and he showed me a photo of a WITCH on google! in the consulting room!
    i was like 17 and very enthusiastic to get the surgery lol because my brain haven't develop enough then to be like "ya this doc is being unprofessional right now," and it took me years to undo whatever that comment did to me mentally. it very much feels like you have to believe what they say, because it's a medical professional who looks like they know what they are doing, telling you this. ty for sharing this in today's episode, and i hope ur in a better place now! 💗(edited to fix my spelling of alison's name)

      Awww hi! :) Thank you for sharing your experience and I’m sorry that happened to you🥺 I was shown reference pictures as well and I didn’t know how to react… It’s still my insecurity but I think I’m more comfortable with my body so all’s good!! I hope you are too!💕

    • @madelynn_18
      @madelynn_18 Před 2 lety +3

      I got the surgery when I was 17......... because my family and the dentist were mentioning on how in the future I'd have trouble eating/chewing due to how protruded my jaw was. Although it seemed like a legitimate reason, I struggled going through the surgery and the post-process of it. Sometimes I wonder if they just wanted me to "look better". It doesn't really matter though, now I'm struggling with my weight and my "pretty face is wasted" because I'm not slim.
      I'm not too bothered by it now and still love myself for who I am but life is a struggle when these thoughts and memories come back, and sometimes I really wonder if it was all worth it.

    • @sophhc
      @sophhc Před 2 lety +1

      @imxeracus hey! it is true that for people with jaws like us, getting a jaw surgery may correct our bites and save us from future tooth complications. if your doctor focused on this aspect during your consultation, i would like to think that he was genuine about it. but i think what the doctors fail to mention is how it can drastically change the way our faces look. i'm sure it must have been tough for you in the months right after your surgery, having to get used to a face that may look very unfamiliar to you, and even now after it has healed. the good thing is that having it done does bring you health benefits for your bite.
      i'm so sorry that someone said something like "pretty face is wasted" to you, because nothing is wasted about you, about everyone! if the goal of the surgery was to improve your health, i think it was very brave of you to have done it. Alison also mentioned this in her comment above, but I am also now practicing "body neutruality," where I am battling my insecurity by just accepting "this is just what my face looks like." i don't have to label my face as "ugly" or "pretty", it's just what it is-a pointy jaw. this mindset helped me a lot, and there are lots of people who talk about this concept online. if you are still struggling to accept your post surgery face, that might be something that can help you with your struggles.
      i think my insecurity with my face will always be a life-long battle. so i hope u stay strong too, and anyone else who has had similar experiences and is reading this right now-keep fighting! we got this! :)

    Since there was a call to share "my fitness journey" I'll share mine. In JC, I was a scrawny kid with really bad acne. Although I had a fun loving bunch of friends from secondary school, the friends I made in JC tended to be people that were somewhat socially awkward (love them lots regardless). Even though I'd say I was becoming more outgoing and loud, I wasn't the type to be invited to the parties or have any success dating
    After A levels I hit the gym hard and used NS as a time to make changes. My body finally had some meat on it and my general health also improved massively too. On top of that, I started wearing contacts which I felt improved my look and got a better trim too. After ORD, I was intent on making the most of uni life(pre-Covid). Before the camps began, I was a little apprehensive thinking "even if I look better now, what would really change?"
    So much changed. I found so much positive feedback to being outgoing and loud. Although my social skills may have improved a tadbit on their own during NS, what I suspect really changed my social circumstances was improving my appearance. In camps and in hall, looking better combined with an outgoing personality helped so much in making friendships and connections with people. Opportunities would also avail themselves more often too.
    Of course, one of the biggest change in my fortunes was in dating too. Knowing that I looked better, I also gained the confidence to get a girl's number at a club for the first time in my life. Unfortunately, while I got infinitely more romantic encounters, my underdeveloped social skills and immaturity destroyed many of those golden opportunities (happily attached today though). I personally feel like being someone who was immensely unattractive that has a glo up comes with a cruel weakness. This someone wouldn't have developed socially to make the most of the opportunities that come with looking better.

    I just started my weight loss journey three months ago and it has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I have started to take daily walks as a form of exercise and I am still afraid to go to any gyms XD But losing weight has made me more disciplined and so far I have lost 10kg. I am still far from my goal but it really helps when there are people there to encourage and give u compliments as you go along your journey. Most importantly, I always remind myself that I am doing this for me and myself, not for the society or the people around me. I have never been embarrassed of my plus size and I have and will always love my body. Health is the number one reason why I started and I really enjoy the new me now.

    what I always tell people is to just ignore everyone and just do your own workout, everyone at the gym is too busy being insecure of themselves for some muscle part than to really go and judge you! they're also there to make themselves a better version of themselves so honestly just whack only go in, workout, get out. simple. Good luck to anyone starting their journey

    Uncle here share with you something..hope that it's valuable to those who are still searching for their own security.
    I'm already 35.
    Unlike when I was 18 and hitting the gym to look buff and cool, and also trying to straighten my teeth at 22, I no longer care these so long as I'm healthy and looks fine. I still jog outdoor once weekly but I am doing that to keep myself healthy and to please myself.
    I realize at my age that to present myself pleasantly and to communicate effectively with people, are more valuable than mere physical changes.
    I really don't care about the little tummy that we have as we age. People don't pay attention to whether you have straight teeth because most of the people do not have. Those who have are either lucky to be born that way or they have already straighten their teeth.

    When we diet we need to know to find the fine line, too strict on a diet will make you stop easily. When i go to the gym i jus finish my workout n gtfo. Dont need to look at others.(the more you compare the easier you injure yourself)

  • @doomzidoomzi
    @doomzidoomzi Před 2 lety +5

    I dont think its just about finding the right motivation...cus any goal is valid and may fade or change overtime. But what helps keep you on track is discipline, habit, consistency. Days where you feel like "what for", you just rely on your habit and routine to keep on track. And when the day is done, you'll thank yourself.

  • @ammo_conscious
    @ammo_conscious Před 2 lety +7

    Tip for solo 1st time gym-goers or people who are unsure about a machine.
    Don't use it yet. Remember the name and go home to google/youtube how professionals use it.
    Reason i say don't use it is not to deter you, but to prevent you from getting a possible joint or muscle injury.
    The follow up reason of googling/youtubing how they use it is to understand which muscle group you are targeting and where you should feel the tension of muscle contraction when you do use it.
    A gym junkie lifting super heavy weights may seem like an alpha, and for him/she that's their goal.
    Find your goal and undertsand why it is your goal, then you will not be bother too much by the others around you.
    I agree with Jon's philosophy of function over aesthetics or the number on the weights you lift.
    Because over time, age will diminish your functional capabilities, and by training functionally, it can have preventive effects against the age-ing and you reap long lasting functionality.

    Explaining how to play the game and mansplaining will be evident in how the guy do it.

    Ive been told time n time about my weight by many people, it hurts more when guys tell me that my weight was the reason why they dont want to go out with me. Like they said on social media they liked me, they would like me more if i was thinner (at that time i wasnt THAT fat either) like just abit meatier but that made me so angry i just said fuck all and ate whatever i wanted and then really gain weight...
    The part where JP said where if you try to loose weight for like aesthetic reason u tend to not be as disciplined is sooo true. Until it really affected my health, pcos and like some hormone issue and im like high high risk of diabetes, i took my weight loss journey more seriously.
    Also yea more pricier gym they kind of take care of you more, i use to be sooo scared to use the machines so i got a trainer (ex but i still think its a good investment kind of) but now im slowly trying to heck cuz i also paid for the membership LOL. But the stress is still there cuz i always think im in the way XD
