- Pinaud Clubman has been around since at least the 1940s and is renowned for its classic barbershop accords and traditional, masculine fragrance.
Very much a cologne for the man's man! Here are my thoughts on this heritage scent.

I'm 71 ,retired American Barber since 1971. The best Barbershops I worked in always retailed The Clubman line of products. It was always used on the client in the shop after shaving or even just after a haircut if they wished to. Sometimes they didn't care to if they preferred their own fragrance they already were wearing. Always ask because some people are allergic. I loved being a Barber and loved the Barbershop. Doctors,Lawyers, Politicians, Firemen, Police, construction workers, auto plant employees, young and old all met at the Barbershop and enjoyed the comradery as well as the haircut. Fellows came to hangout not even needing a haircut. We had an elderly black gentleman who was a glorious shoeshine and story teller.Wonderful days. Clubman was always there.
An elegant man dressed in a suit speaking well of this aftershave, is the best guarantee of quality for me. I have bought the "country club" bottle size (16 oz).
Pinaud Clubman is a time portal that instantly places me back in the barber chair of my childhood. It is a classic and was my gateway drug into traditional wet shaving and men's fragrances.
I'm 34 and I love this stuff. I can just imagine being back in the 1950's and going in for a shave in a barber shop and he splashes this on you as a finishing touch, or being a teenager taking a girl out on a first date or to a high school prom and lathering yourself up with this as you hope to impress her. It literally is the smell of yesteryear, like an amazing combination of citrus and mint and fragrant gardens, so good!
Let me give you a tip that I learned a few years ago. Put the liquid in a perfume bottle and leave it for two weeks. This original plastic packaging masks a much more classic and elegant smell. The glass packaging makes this smell come out.

I actually did this with mine. When I got it, the plastic bottle made it smell awful, so I put it in a glass jar for a week, and on my next shave, the scent was wonderful!

My go to aftershave. Love this old barbershop scent. I've been complimented on this many times by woman in their 20's and 30's who I honestly believe have never come across this before since I live in a very rural part of America.
Im 39 and been useing it for last 4years. I love it.
This will be my first aftershave at 18 and just opened the bottle and it’s smell makes me feel like my grandfather who was a barber just handed it to me and I’m very happy to have it

I’ve used more of that stuff than any other aftershave. The musk version is really nice also.
Whenever I smell it I’m reminded of the old country Barbershop where I had my hair cut until I was 16. I’m betting Floyd’s Shop in The Andy Griffith Show had that scent. It is a classic older man’s fragrance.
I think clubman is perfect for every day use, pretty much the days you have a shave. Do not wear it if you have a couple days of stubble, because then it will draw attention to the fact you didn’t shave, and are wearing an after shave. (Reeks of trying too hard).
Also never reapply during the day. This is a morning, early afternoon fragrance, and it will dissipate before the end of the day, because it is associated with shaving. So in the later afternoon is the opportunity to apply another favorite cologne more suitable to that situation.
I use Pinaud Clubman and it smells great. A very nice scent that any gentleman would love.
Ash. I still use Clubman from time to time it takes me back to a simpler time. My barber today still has it behind the counter and he uses it after he shaves behind my neck. It gives me a clean fresh feeling and smell. Although I do not use it all the time I do use it after I shave under my chin because I am a beard man. Only use it for work or if I'm going shooting or hunting. Not really my choice for evening. It is a nice classic fragrance. Cheers Ron
Love this stuff. Smells great. Works perfectly. Great price. I've seen people moan about the plastic bottle. But that's a money saver.
Little known fact, you can pour the liquid into a glass bottle. Personally I got an old glass Stetson bottle, and I fill it with Clubman. (I also use Stetson on a regular bases).
Love it and is my go to aftershave... along with Tabac...

Great job Ash! Pinaud Clubman is quintessential American barbershop as it was the aftershave used in so many barbershops of yesterday and still today. Sometimes people refer to scents as “barbershop.” Pinaud Clubman was that scent along with their talc. Combine their aftershave and talc together and you have the barbershop scent that defined and coined that scent terminology. Did you try it as an aftershave after a fresh shave?
I did use it as an aftershave splash for a while. Sadly it is one of those fragrances that did not gel with me. My father was the beneficiary of my bottle and he loves it - so it all ended well!
Aftershave fragrance is not ment to last long only for the moment you splash yourself with it. Therefore I don't put to much importance to aftershave scent and prefer a neutral one that won't ruin the edc or edt that comes right after.

I have been using this very splash since I was taught how to shave. My dad and both grandfathers used it and it takes me home when ever I use it. I think it pairs well with Aramis but that's just my take.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! I keep the old classics in my rotation. It would also pair well with Obsession and Polo.... even Jovan musk.

With the greatest of respect, as I'm sure you know, Dunhill Edition and For Men are made in the United States but the company does originate here but is owned by the Swiss. Thanks for the channel, keep up the good work.

i love all the Pinaud line but tend to use Pinaud vanilla more than the others...
The type of plastic used by Clubman is not very good and it tends to slowly alter the fragrance. Many people suggest decanting it into a glass bottle to preserve the fragrance.
That has been suggested to me also - sounds like a good option.
The sense of a fragrance is difficult to convey in a vlog, so evoking The Duke was a very creative touch!

I bought it some time ago on the internet for the first time, and I'm not quite sure about it. If I had smelt it in a chemist's shop for the first time, I probably would not have bought it. I was drawn to it by the oft heard description "Barbershop" - but then I have never been to a barbershop in my life! So watching this video, I put it on again and to be honest: if you fancy dry after shaves (like 'Tabac') it's probably not for you.

I appreciate your review but I get tired of people getting bogged down on "when to wear" and "how old" people should be to enjoy something. It's a classic fougere. Trumper Wild Fern done on a marginally smaller budget (but just as well). It's just a classic, no more, no less. Anyone can enjoy it anytime.

Yep, agree mostly... I do love to splash it all over after having a shower and shave before going to bed. I find the smell a little like men's old fashioned talk. It doesn't last long, only good for smelling fresh when a proper scent isn't warranted.

Sadly we frequently get incursions by sasquatches on the estate. I usually set a few traps to thin out the population, but they have breeding like crazy of late and the numbers have been rising for a few years.
Have you tried Clubman special reserve? I think its most manly aftershave ever, also strong like some edt
I just finished up my first bottle and ordered another. I like its classic scent. I like that it's not too overpowering. BTW, is that a Welsh accent I hear you speaking? I'm American but my great-great grandfather immigrated from Wales.

I have had this on my shelf and I only wore this only if not going out. I would hate to subject people specially ladies to this aroma. If you want to feel like you’re stepping back in back into time, try it.

They used to use one called parsharna I think 🤔 that’s the wrong spelling. I think it was a hair tonic but it had a lovely 👃 smell
Is it really true that this lotion changed the smell because it is in a plastic bottle? Or has the smell remained the same even though it is not in a glass package?
I'm not sure about that, but it was not a fragrance for me and has left my collection.
I'm on my second bottle of clubman...and I believe that I prefer brut. Clubman is nice but the fragrance does not last 20 min maybe it's ok for aftershave tho. Don't expect anything special...that's it.
My favorite aftershave for what it does to your skin is Stetson cooling aftershave (the fragrance is kinda meh. Tho)
It depends on how much you put. If you put a little then the scent will not last long, but if you put a little more or if it is applied to the face several times then it will last a very long time.

im in my 30's and i enjoy the scent if i use it i usualy go with the hairtonic aswel it last longer and it smells the same as the aftershave , too bad they dont use the glass bottles anymore i would love to have a glass bottle of this like the 4711 bottles
Just decant it into an empty 4711 bottle then.
I got to age 59, and tried it out after a recommend from Art of Manliness. After Gillete, including Old Spice, went anti Masculinity "woke", the OS is never ever going to be replaced, and Clubman will be my everyday scent.
Original Clubman is great straight after a shave, and gives me a clean confident feeling - at least until it wears off after an hour or two. My wife likes it, and the "Musk" version (which doesn't really smell musky) particularly so.
Pinaud Clubman "Special Reserve" though is a very different beast, powerful and lasts ages on me, it's not everyone's cup of tea though, and definitely not a "metrosexual" fragrance.

IT is the only way I can figure out the term " barbershop" when Fragrance reviewers are discussing the notes in an EDT or an Eau de Parfum. Etc.
To me a barbershop is repulsive. Old hair, combs, and scissors sitting in Barbacide... I just don't get it..🤔
That's understandable if you have not been to an above average barber shop. Cleanliness is essential in a barber shop.
How sad. A properly run barber shop is swept clean on an ongoing basis. Such establishments were the watering holes where men of all classes mingled, deals were done, politicians rubbed elbows with their constituents, games were shared on the television or radio, newspaper's were read, and playboy magazines were enjoyed.
The barber shops in the midwestern america of my youth were my first glimpse into the society of men. The barbershops that my elders took me to were impeccably clean.
I suppose a man cave could be either a refuge or a dank dungeon, depending upon the character of the owner. Barber shops are essentially commercial man caves. Barbacide is an antimicrobial and a fungicide. It kills everything. I don't get how a disinfectant could be viewed as repulsive, except to Howard Hughes. His phobias got the better of him.

Merkur 34c. Barbasol Witch Hazel. Old Spice more often than not or Clubman. Nothing else touches my face other than the lips of a pretty gal or the tongue of my Aussie Shepard.

I tried Pinaud Clubman a long time ago, and never bought it again. Mediocre. I agree with you, Ash. In the US, you see it for sale in many barbershops.

You could fool people with a fancy bottle and double the price. It's what is inside that counts. If you haven't tried it, go for it.
