    LT was more than just a great player. I will never forget when the team broke for lunch at training camp and my five year old son was upset because he wasn't able to meet any Giants. LT was on his way out with Rodney Hampton, saw my son crying, got out of the car, rubbed his head and signed his plastic football. My son now lives in Texas but he's still a big Giants fan.

      I grew up in North Jersey less than 10 miles from the "Mentalands". I was always a die hard Jets fan. So...not a Giants fan....but you did not have to be a Giants fan to understand that you were watching probably the greatest player of all time. Here are some certainties about LT. First, most feared player on the field in any game he played. And he was NOT a dirty player. Almost impossible for him to get flagged for a late hit...he was in the pocket faster than the QB.
      Second, always double-teamed...NEVER mattered. Amazing...Wide Receivers and Defensive Ends get double teamed...but a Line-backer?..only Defensive Player that had to have a "Spy" put on him..lol.. Not only was he always making the tackle and/or stripping the ball...he always arrived at the ball with incredible ferocity. You knew you were going to get hit yet still coughed up the ball. Third, coaches actually changed entire game plans to accomodate LT's presence on the field.
      When LT got drafted out of NC I remember watching that first season..all Giant games aired on CBS Channel 2. It was clear then that this guy was "special"....40 years later, still a Jets fan....but I will say in MY opinion having been fortunate enough to see some of the greatest players of all time play the game, LT was for sure the greatest Defensive Player that I ever saw play the game and probably the Best Player Period that I ever saw play the game.
      LT in his 1986 "Prime" would still dominate in today's game. And sorry to say...QBs would definetely have a shorter shelf life. All NFL teams should retire #56.

      @user-sg8kq7ii3y Pƙed 4 měsĂci

      @@robduncan2816 Tippett was the anchor of his defense. He was EQUAL to Lawrence Taylor. But Taylor got all the attention for several reasons: 1) He played in New York, which is the media capital of the world. 2) He played for Bill Parcells 3) He played for GREAT Giants teams which had MANY great players on their roster - both on offense and defense. Their defense was known as "The Blue Wrecking Crew", and opponents had to not only worry about LT, but also had to worry about Carl Banks, Leonard Marshall, Jim Burt, Harry Carson, Gary Reasons, Everson Walls, etc.
      Tippett NEVER had that kind of talent surrounding him. NEVER, yet he still managed to rival Taylor in inflicting terror on opposing offenses.
      It's like Emmitt Smith vs. Barry Sanders. Emmitt played on GREAT Cowboy teams, SURROUNDED by talent, while Barry Sanders played on terrible Detroit teams.
      If Barry played for Dallas, he'd be even BETTER than he was. Same for Tippett - had he been on a better team, he would have won way more Superbowls and would have been even more impactful than he was.
      GIVE TIPPETT THE CREDIT HE DESERVES!!

      Phil Simms was an underrated QB. Once the Giants offense started to gel, it took pressure off the offense as well as forced teams to start throwing the ball more. Which the Giant D ate up. LT with his ears pinned back...well....you can see the videos on CZcams. You kinda felt bad for the opposing QBs(especially an immobile Jaws). I am a lifelong Jet fan and had a chance to watch nearly every Giant and Jet game in the 1980s and 1990s. I can tell you this without even a hesitation, LT was by far the greatest Defensive Player I EVER saw play the game. And, while many NFL experts give the GOAT TAG to Offensive Players such as Tom Brady, it is my opinion that LT is the overall GOAT. As Phil Sims stated as an Analyst, he has been waiting to see the "Next" Lawrence Taylor, but no one has been close. I wonder who Bill Belichek would choose? I am not a Belichek fan, especially since "faxgate", but he is probably the greatest HC of all time...then Bill Walsh...I love Belichek's interviews when he speaks of LT's greatness. I was a jealous Jets fan....now up in years, it was awesome to have had the opportunity to watch LT play...just wish it would have been in Green on Channel 4 instead of Blue on Channel 2.
