  • Part 1 - Shading techniques are a vital skill for the product and industrial designer. The addition of shading to a page full of sketched design ideas helps the designer to communicate his or her ideas and thoughts to their client. Here are some tips and advice on making the process as straightforward and fluid as possible, allowing the designer to focus upon being creative and problem solving.

    When hatching you are drawing one continues line in both directions? It looks so effortlesely in your video, but it is really hard to keep the spacing consistent and go exactly from edge to edge without being too short or overlap.
    I guess that its just practice practice practice.
    It looks very fluid and I think you are the only one I saw talking about being unconstricted and develop the ideas freely, you are a true designer...

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  Před 4 lety +1

      Petr Novotný thank you, that’s very kind. Try getting your hand/arm positioned so that there will be nothing restricting its movement at any point whilst shading. Yes, I’m drawing a continuous line. Practice is important, but so too is being relaxed. Try and relax and don’t worry about it looking wonderful. It’ll get better quickly.

    • @productdesignermaker
      @productdesignermaker  Před 5 lety +3

      Thank you Bacel! Much appreciated. I'd say choose your pen carefully. The Staedler biro I used in this video doesn't smudge. Also if you can broadly work from the top left of the page towards the bottom right (if you're right handed), then your hand won't tend to go over the work you have already produced. This method of layout also tends to tell it's own story to the person reading the page; it's easier to follow. If your pen smudges, use a small piece of scrap paper underneath your hand.

      mujeex miniminer definitely good to be able to pick up any instrument and start sketching, so it’s worth practising with a range of equipment. To answer your question, using a pen keeps the designer honest and encourages him/her to work quickly. With a pencil, there’s always the option to rub out mistakes. If I know I can rub out my work, I will start to tighten up and work carefully.... when it’s not perfect, I will rub it out and have another go. With this interruption, my train of thought will suffer. With experience and confidence, pen will encourage me to work more loosely and creatively. I hope this makes sense.

      Joel Caceres Villarreal keep trying. Relax and it’ll become easier. Keep your wrist locked in one position.
