FUN FACT: the guy Theo mentioned as one of the vocalists who is Seungkwan is actually someone who kim taeyeon herself mentioned as one of her favorite singers who covered her song. She is also close with them and even attended their concert.
It is also funny that you mentioned they are more like SM artist because fans like to joke that they are orphans of SM based on how they act in shows like their manners and personality is like an sm idol.

  • @winterdawn1

Yes, they’re super close basically one big family. They’re funniest group to ever exist istg. One of their variety shows called GoSe (Going Seventeen) has its own fandom, there are many people who may not even listen to their music but watch the show with love. However their comedian sides, sincere humorous personalities, hilarious varieties don’t overshadow their music and hard works. First of all this group is self-produced. This young man over there 7:55 Woozi has produced over 80% of groups songs and he’s brilliant songwriter, also does the vocal directing during their recording sessions. Plays at least 6 instruments, literally musical genius, it’s insane. Seventeen is the most synchronized group ( and it’s mathematically proven) I mean if you’re at least a bit interested in dancing you can tell their sync is out of this world.

    "Maybe they'll follow trends?"
    Woozi, "I don't follow trends."
😆Not shade, I just thought this was funny! He's given interviews and there's a lot of bts videos of him recording and talking about his/their process. I do see on the mixing side and using soundbites what's popular occasionally in their music, but Woozi typically gets inspired first by melody, then lyrics come. Bumzu is also a main producer for a large majority of their songs, and then ofc other members in Seventeen collaborate with lyrics and such in so many songs. I think you can find all of their writing credits on the wiki. You can also ofc find it on their albums, but a majority of the song credits is in their language, so that might get confusing for ya 😅

  • @BeverlyPennell

Thank you SO MUCH for reacting to Seventeen! Woozi, the short blonde, actually writes all of their songs, and has produced 95% of them. (They hired producers for their latest hits "Super", "Maestro" and a few others from their recent comeback.) Woozi doesn't drink, so it makes sense he would write lyrics about drinking water!! Also, you're right about the songs being love songs; but they're all love songs to their fandom known as Carats...as in 17-carat diamonds. EVERYTHING they do is for Carats, and that's why they're so loved.
They're also probably THE MOST chaotic, hilarious group in the entire music industry. SOOOOOO funny...all of them; and their TV series "Going Seventeen" (GOSE) is nothing but them being the best entertainment out there! They're all SO VERY close to each other they consider each other's parents their own. Even their parents go on cruises and trips together, and they spend holidays at each others' homes as well. They have a bond that's literally unbreakable. They celebrated their 9th anniversary from the date of their debut (May 26, 2015), and they all promised to stay together forever. Even if they're not performing, or as old men, they will be in each others' lives. Don't know of any other group that has that kind of love for each other. Of course, they went through literal hell to get to where they are today; and the only way they made it was holding onto each other. That, and Carats! They ALWAYS give Carats credit for their success.

Seventeen are truly THAT group! They're under Pledis entertainment, which is a small company that have had a few decently popular groups before Seventeen (namely the 2nd gen girl group Afterschool ((and their subunit Orange Caramel)) and early 3rd gen bg Nu'est) but Seventeen were really special. They're called "Self producing idols" because the members take part in all aspects of production, including producing, writing, and choreography. They're KNOWN and widely considered THE BEST and most synchronized dancers in kpop, who constantly up the scale and difficulty of their performances. Even only a few years after their debut, they were considered one of the biggest 3rd gen boy group, with Korean media using the acronym "EBS": for EXO, BTS, and Seventeen. They're also known to be incredibly funny and very good entertainers, with their variety show " Going Seventeen "being so popular that it has its OWN fan base of loyal viewers who aren't even fans of seventeen as idols. They truly are an all around group, from their talented vocalist, so their impressive rappers and excellent dancers. Truly just an excellent idol group, once people get over the number of members, you can't help but fall for them. ❤😊

The second gen girl group Wonder Girls also preformed in the US that year and released an English version of their hit song Nobody. Also around 2nd gen it became common to have a English speaking member of the group, and foreign idols became pretty common. Although the main markets after Korea, seemed to be Japan and China.

You guys HAVE to check out their most recent comeback maestro. Seventeen are not only known as self producing powerhouses but also according to computer analysis they are the most synchronized group in kpop so I think their most recent comeback showcases those things the most. It is also such a amazing concept. Basically in the words of woozi (seventeen vocal unit member/seventeen's producer) Seventeen shows what it is to create genuine music in a world where virtually everything can be made with AI and other advanced technologies. Also the two guys you pointed out that you said were stand out vocalist are Seungkwan (blonde hair/blazer jacker) and DK (black hair/black jacket) and they are the two main vocalist of seventeen. Trust me imo I think they are some of the best vocalist in kpop and you will definitely hear that in live stages and other things.

Actually...Woozi (the blonde member, short one, their MAIN producer) doesn't follow trends. He likes making music genre that nobody expects them to release. It always depends on what they WANT to release for Carats (yes Carats are their main focus and not to appeal to others, that's just a bonus) rather than what OTHER people want them to do. That's why, others tend to ignore them coz they don't go for what's trendy and what the mass wants to hear. I love them so much for that. My "We will do whatever we want" kings. Woozi loves experimenting with their songs, that's why they don't stick with one genre.

thank you for reacting to SEVENTEEN! I'll try to give a little summary of their career since there's a lot to cover.
SEVENTEEN is a 13-member boy group from PLEDIS ENT. They debuted on May 26th, 2015 (recently celebrated their 9th anniversary!) with the EP '17 CARAT'. They are know as a SELF PRODUCING IDOL GROUP since all of the members are involved in writing, composing and producing their songs, choreographies and content. Also got the name of 'Most Synchronized Group', 'K-pop Performance Powerhouse' and 'Theater Kids of K-pop' because of their amazing performances and dedication to their work.
The name SEVENTEEN come from the meaning: 13 members + 3 units (vocal, performance and hiphop) + 1 team = 17. The units represent the members' most strong ability, vocalists, dancers and rappers, respectively. They have special units as well; BSS (BooSeokSoon), known mostly as the funniest trio in the group. SVT Leaders, each main unit has a leader and it's formed by SEVENTEEN's general leader, SEVENTEEN's producer and SEVENTEEN's main choreographer.
Fandom name is CARAT, as in the unit of mass to measure diamonds. Since SVT being the diamonds themselves, and we, as fans, are the reason why they shine. The have A LOT of content under their belt which can be overwhelming to get to but my recommendation is to watch the following:
    - SUPER LONG SEVENTEEN GUIDE by Caratline17, beware, this is REALLY LONG but it's a fan favorite so I strongly recommend to check out: czcams.com/video/griy5UcePPU/video.html
    - Going Seventeen, the groups' variety show, there are TONS of episodes and you can really see the members' personalities shine a lot. I gotta say that they love their inside jokes so it can be a little disorienting sometimes but they are so funny. I'll leave the link for their most recent episode, a comeback special: czcams.com/video/qppmHwt4nC8/video.html
They released their BEST ALBUM called "17 IS RIGHT HERE" on April 29th, which is basically a compilation of their work throughout the years. You can start watching their recent MV "MAESTRO" (and just a fun fact, member WOOZI, main producer, used samples from their older songs and incorporated them into MAESTRO). The main units mentioned before also released their own songs "LALALI", "SPELL" and "Cheers to Youth" if you're interested in reacting to them.
Last thing, SVT is composed by 9 Koreans, 2 Chinese and 2 Korean-Americans. And thanks once again for reacting to my boys:)

27:39 That is Seungkwan, one of their Main Vocalists along with DK. If you like is tone here you've not even seen half of what he can do. If you want to know what's his forté then you should watch Seungkwan on Lee Mujin Service!
(Personally Seungkwan is my favorite Vocalist in Kpop and also my ultimate bias, so I'm a little biased but as I've seen so far from rankers he is at about 5th place as the best boygroup vocalists with Exo Chen at Nr. 1, who on a radio show said, that the vocalist he respected was Seungkwan who was on the same show before him!)

Well, this was delightful. Thank you for this reaction. Last count Seventeen has 117 songs. Their B-sides are so amazing. One of my recent favorites is Headliner (for Carats). You already have your 'marching orders' from the comments. I'll just add a few more World Super Dream. Fighting (BSS)

In this particular Seventeen Dingo I doubt they used autotune or edited the vocals even if they did I believe it was to slightly emphasize certain parts. They don’t need autotune, cuz they all can sing beautifully and powerfully especially Seunkwan and DK aka some of the best vocalists in kpop. Plus you can tell that it’s live by the way they were really loud, hyping up each other, constantly shouting some random stuff like Dingo cmon etc. And bcuz of large number of members some of them had to skip some lines while reaching the mic 😅

Looking forward to your next Seventeen reaction videos! It's gonna be a fun journey since svt is known for their diverse (in terms of genre) songs since they make their own music. One of their members (Woozi - the cute one with blonde hair and red in-ears) writes and produces almost all, if not all of their songs! Thanks for this reaction!

Seventeen is under pledis entertainment, which is a small company. Seventeen = 13 member + 3 unit (hip hop unit, vocal unit n performance unit) + 1 team. Seventeen have 4 leader, scoup = main leader + hip hop unit leader, woozi = vocal leader, hoshi = performance leader and DK = BSS leader. They are good singer and dancer, you should check their choreography especially dont wanna cry, it was insane coz they are the most sync boy group in the kpop. They are self producing idol too, all of their song from debut. Woozi is the member who produce the song and another member help him to make a lyrics. Thank u for reaction seventeen.

Seventeen the best group ever, the ALL ROUNDER group, they all are good at EVERYTHING( from song producing, synchronised dancers, best comedians, basically everything)!!! All the songs are produced by Woozi and Hoshi is the backbone for keeping all the members synchronised in choreography.
    Please react to Super Mv.

just wanna say that even though this one's a bit autotuned, they literally sound the same and even better live (not to mention how they sing and perform difficult choreos at the same time) 😆 you guys should react to their live performances, both with and without their microphones! oh, and they also confirmed that this was a one take performance. thanks for reacting to seventeen, looking forward to more reactions from you both! ☺️

One thing to know about their earliest music (Adore U, Mansae, Pretty U, Aju Nice) is that while you can look back on them as very on-trend for that period, SVT was actually among the first to popularise that kind of brighter/fun/happy/cheerful sound as at the time, most boy groups were releasing more dark/moody/fierce/badass type songs. The general idea was that boy groups couldn't really do brighter concepts without wandering into "cute" or "aegyo" and therefore "unmanly" territory. SVT completely disproved this with their debut of Adore U, bringing a fresh concept and gaining the nickname "Fresh-teen".

Two tone hair is the leader of Seventeen and the hip hop unit. The guy in the middle with the striped sweater who didn't say much is Wonwoo and sadly his mom passed away a little bit before and they were trying not to put pressure on him. He went and hung out in the back. Several members put theirs around him during this.

While Seventeen and EXO both have Bruno Mars influence I would say EXO leans more RnB while Seventeen is more funky. Seventeen actually explored a lot of genres through their discography but they've kept this fun and/or uplifting vibe as the core of their music.
