    I enjoyed queen of nothing too! I thought it was pretty consistent. One thing I wished Holly Black had explored more was why Cardan had a copy of Alice in Wonderland. Did I miss that? I wanna know more about his complicated relationship with mortals/the mortal world!

    I loved where Queen of Nothing ended up - the last chapter/epilogue was perfection - but I just don’t love how it got there, if that makes sense? I didn’t dislike it, but I was disappointed. I feel like Wicked King was just such an amazing, complicated book and this felt a little more... linear? Things just felt too convenient (problem, immediate solution, problem, immediate solution, etc) and I wanted way more Jude & Cardan time on page where they were talking and bantering. Still loved the series, and I don’t think this was a terrible book by any stretch of the imagination... but after seeing what Holly Black is capable of in the Wicked King this just felt like a step backwards to me. I really do think it suffered just a tad because of the rushed publication.

    • @sleepyontime5513
      @sleepyontime5513 Před 4 lety +11

      SamanthaPlans i FELT THIS everything was really convenient as if holly Black was just in a rush to tie the ends together and get everything solved. I LOVED the epilogue and I think It really differs from other YA books. Because if you’ve read the red queen series it hate how it ended because it wasn’t the happy ending that we were not expecting. Yet here it was the happy ending that we weren’t expecting. So I love that it’s different. I just found the ending of the book too simple.

    what i didn't like (i still liked the book but _since you asked_ )
    - tarryn killing Locke felt kind of out of nowhere and convenient
    - not enough judecardan (what we got was excellent though but i wanted a lot more)
    - some things felt a bit spoon fed (it kept repeating cardan's traaagic backstory)
    - way too rushed, the whole pacing was off. just needed a rewrite and a 100 more pages
    - i felt like tarryn being pregnant was unnecessary
    - the reason for jude's exile was kinda dumb

    Wanting more JudexCardan is also who I am as a person. I really like this series and it was funny, it took me until I got to the last book to realize that the main conflicts of this series have always been Jude vs Madoc and Jude's issues with being vulnerable. Like, especially considering this book, the whole "Jude and Cardan hate wach other" is so obviously a mask for what's actually going one with Jude's emotions. I loved this so much. And oh man, you vlog make so much more sense than mine will. I was good rereading TCP and TWK, but I think the QoN portion of my vlog is mostly just be going " Jude's stressing me out so much right now" every thirty seconds. It's like I was Cardan in a past life. 😂😂😂

  • @Maclovia_reads
    @Maclovia_reads Před 4 lety +62

    I’m surprised people had mixed reviews about this last book! Because literally my reaction was the same SAME as yours. Jude has some hard fights. Some serious battles to overcome that are unlike the ones she’s seen in the first two because she was really thrown for a loop at the end of the second book. It’s extremely vulnerable for someone to want to believe in love when you’ve been rejected by your own sister and “father,” she made perfect sense to me. I lived for her bravery to battle, when she did have to battle, she is fearless which is what carried through into this book. Fearless but the ultimate difference is she’s in love and that’s scary and bewildering especially when she was defeated and has to make a come back from nothing. I think people forget that. In the first book she was confident and sure of herself and schemed yes, but she was still very much sure of herself and those around her. In this last one it’s clear she doesn’t know who to trust and her ground is very unsettled. I was a little only disappointed in the fact that Cardan comes back to life and how uneventful it was revealed the reason for her exile, I think that angle with the mom needed a little more, but I was so happy because it gave me everything I loved in the first two books, I was shocked when Cardan turned into that snake and was like oh shit Jude is going to have to kill the snake and rule on her own and I was dying and expecting that and I think I would have been so much happier with that but I’m happy Cardan came back too. Not as happy I would have been to be crushed by him dying but I’m just love that kind of pain though lmfao

Couldn't be more pleased with the way the story wrapped up and I agree on the fact that additional plotlines wouldn't have worked for this series and that tying up loose ends was the correct route for Holly Black. I enjoyed the callback to Cardin's prophecy and thought it was cohesive to the way in which the prologues were consistently relevant throughout the trilogy. JUDE WAS BOSS AND I COULD NOT STOPP SCREAMING WHENEVER SHE FINALLY GOT RESPECTED! LIKE YESS AS SHE SHOULD!!! AAAAA this series isn’t perfect and there are a few things i wish where different, like how i wish cardan and jude had a little more scenes together because they’re story is so beautiful it had so much potential to be better even if it’s already one of my favorite Books overall, i wished cardan showed jude the letters cause they gave me MAD BUTTERFLIES DUDE, also a few unanswered questions as it was a very open ending, it wasnt bad at all but alot of people werent a fan of it i do see why they are upset because it could’ve ended way better but it isnt a terrible ending honestly. I wish she put an extra few pages in though to clarify if JUDE was FINALLY MAGIC AND IMMORTAL, and if JUDE AND CARDAN would have kid/s in the future, if so could she bare more than one since she was a human turned to magic, or if JUDE AND CARDAN would still pass it to OAK and if OAK wanted to take it? Still many unanswered questions that a few pages wouldn’t rlly hurt to put in yk? But yah stilll very much one of my favourites!

    I haven't read these, but literally the desire to be involved in like magic, or fae, or anything is so strong in me. i would be the type to do this, regardless of how dangerous or stupid, or whatever.
    Ah, and now am sad that I continued watching this video lol. Still love your channel though lol

  • @brittanylikesmemes_
    @brittanylikesmemes_ Před rokem

    yeah I gotta rant for a bit LMAO.
    I really don’t get the sentiment of people thinking “Jude was exiled for no reason” and it was “too easy for her to come back”. it was pretty clear to me that Cardan exiled her in book 2 because he was surprised and UPSET. girl killed his brother, abusive or not that was still his closest family member (and only one still alive besides Oak whom he hardly knows) and really closest relationship besides Jude.
    as you said: 1) Cardan has human emotions/ moments despite being fae, and 2) he’s not super clever. he wasn’t planning to exile her all along, he was just taken aback and needed time to process what Jude had done (which was specifically against his wishes). plus even despite his own personal feelings, he literally had to do SOMETHING to Jude or else Orla would have demanded her killed.
    that’s why he put it in the words he did, he was so dope headed that he assumed Jude knew he really loved her, and assumed she would get the memo that she could come back whenever she wanted. yeah he wasn’t clear, but neither was Jude hardly ever lmao. they were both afflicted with the Big Dumb when it came to their feelings for each other, and how they assumed the other felt about them.
    it’s why the scene with Taryn betraying Jude in book 2 is so powerful and also kinda silly. Jude asks “HOW was Taryn able to tell you what to do, if i’m the only one you made the deal to obey the orders of?” and Cardan is literally like “Because you never had to magically order me, IDIOT, I would do what you asked because I love you dumb bitch” okay maybe this wasn’t literally what they said but it’s basically the gist.
    idk I feel like people are upset by the exile because they trick themselves into thinking it was some elaborate set up based off of politics and cleverness, because the books have a lot of that, but truly in this instance it is simply because Jude and Cardan are youngsters who can’t communicate the emotions they feel and don’t want to admit them with just a dash of punishment for the sake of not letting Orla straight kill Jude as a traitor to the treaty.
    idk I loved book 3, I definitely love 1 and 2 more but I have basically no complaints for 3 lol .
