  • Honda's 1.6 litre diesel engine powers this 2014 Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC. The practical Japanese hatchback will do a claimed 78.5MPG and our test car in SR trim comes packed with equipment including touchscreen navigation system, Bluetooth, heated leather seats and a glass roof. Changes to the aesthetics and chassis for 2014 aim to take the fight to class leaders such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.

I just bought my a 2014 1.6 Honda Civic SE + based on this review! I have the crv 1.6 SR with Navvi and I am 67MPG on combined motorway and town driving. Which is crazy for a big car like the CRV

78 mpg is achievable as I have the same car and the best I've averaged so far is 77 mpg on premium diesel, on standard stuff I'm averaging about 70 mpg. These are proper figures based on brimming the tank, not what the computer says which often shows 85 mpg+. I do a lot of motorway journeys, so this helps with diesels.

I have a question for the people over at Inside Lane. Why are your videos absolutely spontaneously marvelously amazingly spectacularly good?

I hate the 25 year rule on importing cars to the US. I need this car! #Honda please don't bring this to the US b/c you'll have to put DEF in it and mess it up. Just let me drool from afar.

I would really like on of these cars but to get it here in the states, the govt would need to get their share, so they would import tax the hell out of it first, which of course brings up the price of the car too, then the govt would put all the emissions garbage on it that they say we need, and then big oil would get involved and add something else to drive the MPG's down so they make more money too, then the govt would release it here as a "special euro edition" and then it would get around 35 MPG's, then the govt would say, YEAH!!! look what we brought you America, isn't nice to get that great fuel mileage?? pay us more taxes too and actually pay us taxes on what you make, then we will tax you on what you spend, then every year we will think about giving some of that money we stole all year long from your pay check in an interest free loan, but if you make too much money because you applied yourself in life and have a career and school loans and so on, then well, you get to pay more at tax time too.......... AHHHHH anyways, maybe some day we will get cars like this here in America with out all the govt pushed horse crap to ruin a great car like this Honda getting close to 80 MPG's. It's a great looking car too.

Never before I have seen someone using a manual transmission like you! As soon as you are approaching a roundabout or red traffic light you switch to neutral, roll and brake. Right before stopping you push in the 1st gear!? Why? This uses more fuel and the 1st gear is more difficult to get in than in normal gear change. Are you normally driving automatic or did nobody show you, how to use correctly ? ;-)

+the links lizard The new 1.6 in the Kia is very good, but I think the Civic is a little quieter. Check out our Cee'd Sportswagon review for more on that engine.
