Thanks Frank!
Dude! I bumped on your channel searching for tips on how to get into consulting. I've been really stressed out with my career lately and your videos have helped me answer really important questions. I'm going for it. It was such a nice surprise to see you're also a climber! Keep it up. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thanks man! Glad to hear - best of luck with everything, you got this!
Agreed! Preparation before a whole interview process is key to showing your authentic self and feeling confident. But God damn it it takes ages 😅 ... great content!
Agreed, it’s not easy! Thanks for watching
I loved your energy ♥
Thank you 🙏 glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video as always Matt! Currently, also prepping for interviews after being one year into my job, so it was pretty helpful! You briefly mentioned some resources that you used for you case prep! Can you share some material that you think would be helpful?
Definitely! Can also make a video in the future about resources if helpful, but in terms of resources, I started by reading Case Interview Secrets by Victor Cheng - it’s a good primer. For actual case practice, highly recommend checking out the Wharton or Darden casebooks (many business schools have similar materials). I know some firms also have example cases on their websites, so check those out as well. If you’re wondering what a case should sound like, I recommend CZcams or if you have money to spend, Victor Cheng’s “Looking over my shoulder” recordings where he gives live examples of students doing cases with feedback. Hope this helps!
Great content man!
Appreciate it brother!
Great stuff brother
Thanks bro!
Thank you for supporting Asian-owned restaurants!
of course!
Hey Matt, I too am looking to get into consulting, I would be glad to interact with you, and get to know more about the preparation process
Hi Matt, just subscribed to your channel, loving the videos! I'm a freshman in college looking to get into consulting/finance. Could you make a video about how the process went for you, your educational background, etc? Btw, does coming from a target school around NYC really help with your chances of landing a job at a good firm? (I study business at a semi-target school on the West Coast)
Hey Rafael! Glad you’re finding the videos helpful - I’ll note down your suggestion in my running list of ideas. I would say coming from a target school near nyc can improve your odds of landing a New York based role due to a number of factors like more firms coming to campus and it being easier to do coffee chats in the city + more alumni concentrated in the area, BUT if you don’t care about working in New York it doesn’t matter as much.
Great video!
Thanks! :D
Informative stuff
Glad you find it useful!
great video!!
Glad you liked it!
Hi Matt! Really Great content. I would like to ask if you can share how to do an impressive presentation slide for management consulting
Absolutely will note that idea down!
Hi Sir,
I'm dreaming of working in the New Yorck City someday, this video helped me to have a wider view of what I can do there someday.
Thanks!
Hey Jomari! I'm glad you found the video inspiring - thanks for being here!
@@matthuang21 hoping we could be friends sir☺️
And may be we can hit up there soon!
You look cute❤ Thanks for sharing your stories 🎉
great content
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
quick question: how do you transition from an IB role to a consulting role? the work nature is quite different from my experience working in an IB related role.
I switched from IB to Consulting by prepping for case interviews while working full time. It was tough but I prioritized prep on the weekends / early mornings. Yes they are different jobs, but fundamentally have some similarities like being an advisor to companies and analyzing many different businesses (albeit from different angles and contexts). I had developed a good business sense from IB which translated well into consulting, and really emphasized that I wanted to continue working with different businesses in an advisory capacity, but more aligned with high level decision making / CEO's perspective, not just solely focused on M&A like I was in IB. Hope this makes sense!
Were you on the bench when you filmed this? How often are you in the office vs. traveling?
Nah I was actually on a PE diligence at the time, but I filmed on a Friday when things were slower and the office more empty. Over the past year I’ve been mostly in-office vs traveling, but that’s because I chose to work mostly on projects with minimal travel (I.e., diligences and projects based in NY)
Is this really like a typical day for you in consulting? :0 How do you do all these activities after work? I barely finish my work late and sleep late. Can you share how you do this?
This was filmed on a Friday so I got off around 6pm. Mon-Thurs I would not be able to film or do any activities outside of work because I’d be working much later on most projects.
@@matthuang21 got it, Thanks for the clarification!
Keep it up, your channel is inspiring
Hey matt ! ...can i ask uh one question
Can you plzz mention 1 biggest pros and cons of this job
I hope you will reply...
Hey! There are lots of pros and cons to the job, but for me personally the biggest pro is the interesting work (never gets boring because you constantly work with new companies on different projects), and the biggest con is probably the unpredictability of staffing or the long hours. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the insight! You mentioned how you networked for a referral. Was this for a new grad role? And how did you approach the networking as well?
I have a few more questions as well as your story is pretty interesting. Is there any way I can email you?
This was for a lateral role (I had been working full-time in banking for a year when I switched over). I approached networking by both reaching out to people on LinkedIn, and also speaking with existing connections I found via family/friends. Happy to answer more of your questions in detail - shoot me an email at huangmatt21@gmail.com
at this point I am convinced all consultant climbs😂
Haha same 😆 saw your video where you went climbing too!
You have time to go climbing?!
Hey Kelvin! This was filmed on a Friday so yes, I was able to get out by a reasonable hour and go climbing.
Hey Matt , really nice video! I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your video to reach to a wider audience .
Consultant in what?
