  • I’m not sure the exact reason but firewood sales seem to be slowing down. I think it is a combination of my pricing and a current slow down in demand. Things should pick up as we get further into winter.

    I hear you Ben, We had to lower our prices recently. To much competition around here. we started off the year great, firewood was moving, but the Past month, we didnt sell a stick of wood. We need this wood to move while we can get the higher prices for it before we move to our farm. We have a lot going on at the farm right now with a new barn, new well, needing to run water and electric lines and a septic going in. I needed the money to keep coming in. So I did what I had to.

    You put a tremendous amount of time and labor into your finished product. You seem to only deal in premium wood. So long as you are seeking only a reasonable return on all that time, labor, and product, you are doing right. I undersold this season’s firewood because I put in the time and labor, but did not have your degree of premium product.

    • @OGAOutdoors
      @OGAOutdoors  Před 7 měsíci

      Mark I try to sell everything premium or otherwise. I have a lot that is not so premium just good old fashioned mixed hardwood. I do separate the big knotty pieces and try to sell them separately. Separating the bundle stuff sure makes it easier. I needed bundles Saturday and was able to knock several out really quick. Happy New Year sir.

    Hi Ben, middle of summer here in Australia, I’m selling plenty of double split for fire pits and pizza ovens, the firewood is slow ( as expected in summer ) but I’m holding my prices firm, just too much work to give it away cheap. I’ll keep stock piling and advertise more in winter and sell it all that way. Keep the vids coming.

    Stick to it! Here in the Adirondacks, firewood sells quite easily. I've been selling firewood for 20+ years and can't remember when I got a no. If you list on CL the ones that call are the "yes'ers". Usually sell around 60 full cord, all delivered, some stacked, no "pickup"

    You didn’t ask but I’ll give you my opinion anyway 😂…DO NOT lower your prices. I’m sure you’re charging a fair price for your firewood. You’re taking the time to cut it, split it, separate the species, stack it, let it season, deliver on a moments notice…so no. That Jackwagon can go source his own trees of the desired species, cut them down, haul it home, split it, stack it, get rid of all the waste, do maintenance on his truck, splitter, and saws, take time away from his family…oh that just fires me up! Have him call me, your prices will seem like sale prices! I don’t mind giving a discount to friends and family but making firewood isn’t cheap.

    I dont drop prices. If I dont sell out, it will really good next year. I agree on separating bundle wood. I have a couple big pieces and some smaller pieces. My customer feedback showed they wanted some bigger wood to last longer. I do however have what I call a goldilocks bins for pieces that dont cut the muster with my premium wood. Might be a little short, too knotty to stack or what not. Goldilocks wood is generally what I would just pile up and burn. It is great for deer camps or people that have a large firepit.

      Tim I’ve split a lot of wood with it over the last few years no issues. The log lifter does leak down but no real issue with that. Just start the engine and raise it up before moving. Not an issue at all if you don’t have to move it. I think as far as a home owner class splitter it’s hard to beat.
