      I’ve had a dirty Shirley 40 for several years and it’s my favorite amp I’ve ever owned. I grew up on VH stuff though so I’ll definitely acquire a BE100 eventually!

    • @peterlawlor5237

      I had one for about a year. These things are always a matter of personal preference of course, but I didn't get on with the amp at all. Two main issues for me:
      1. The EQ does almost nothing. I realise this was a design feature in the spirit of the old Marshalls, but it was a problem for me in the studio. A better EQ could have made a huge difference to the amp IMHO;
      2. The amp was very prone to high-end fizz. Again, not to my taste at all. To my ears, this gave the amp a rather synthetic quality.
      Another issue for me was the clean channel. When dialled in to be completely clean, it has very little character.
      Overall, the amp was a major disappointment for me and I sold it on.
      Interestingly, the gentleman I sold it to had exactly the same issues that I did. He sold it on after three months.
      However, apparently the current owner loves it, which is nice! Horses for courses.

      @@peterlawlor5237 The EQ has a greater difference when played loud. The high end can be altered with a combination of the voice switch and all the other knobs/switch of the power amp sectipn.
      But you're right about the clean channel, because it is not meant as a pure clean channel, it's called the plexi channel. The 50 Watt version has a dedicated clean channel.
      Yes horses for courses, I didn't like my Fryette Sig X, Marshall Jubilee, Marshall JVM 410H, 800KK, 900 SL-X...(list goes on) and other people rave about them.

    I absolutely love my BE 100 Deluxe. And, I already had the Small Box and Dirty Shirley 40w. The BE 100 Deluxe’s plexi channel sounds huge. I bought the BE-100 Deluxe last year after doing as much research as possible, and a Mezzabarba Trinity 100 less than a month later, basically on impulse. My plan was to keep the one that suited me the most and re-home the other. I needed a better plan…

      @GuitarsAndSynths Před měsícem

      how does the BE-100 compare to the Mezzabarba? I have an MZero so is the BE-100 worth getting if I already have a Mezzabarba? Or should I get something else like a Diezel or Revv amp?

    • @davej8045
      @davej8045 Před měsícem

      @@GuitarsAndSynths It all depends on what qualities you are looking for, which can quickly lead you into the rabbit hole. The MZero has more outright gain than the BE-100 deluxe (& Trinity) but the tonal palette & versatility of the Friedman is what makes it a keeper for me. The BE can sound really close to the Butterslax in the heavy department is it’s dialed in. Neither feel anemic or nasally, both are articulate, but both take a little more time seasoning to suit a particular guitar.(For me at least, I prefer certain guitars through one over the other and vice versa and usually don’t try to get them to sound the same, if that makes any sense.)They are voiced differently as well and I really preferred the Marshall character of the BE-100 deluxe over my JVM210H so I upgraded to the JVM410H to have a Marshall that gave me something different than the others. I haven’t played through a Revv or a Diezel so my very limited insight is strictly based from CZcams videos. I’d recommend trying stuff out at the store if you can but check out RezaMatix & Michael Nielsen if you haven’t yet. They sound great, are both very consistent in their playing, setups, deliveries and have different styles so you should be able to get a decent first or second impression.

    Best no. Great amp yes. I think Friedman competes with Bogner, Marshall, and Badcat for hot rodded Marshall tones. But for metal, may want something like a Mesa Dual Rectifier, ENGL Savage, Revv Generator, Diezel Herbert or Bogner Uberschall. For budget, the EVH 5150 III is a fantastic rock and metal amp. I love Friedman amps but the ones I have played like Dirty Shirley, Runt, JJ, and Pink Taco are better suited for classic rock than metal.

    I keep hearing from these bedroom player influencers on CZcams that various Modellers and gadgets are going to make real amps obsolete, when I call BS, they get very defensive, fact is I don't see ebay full of valve amps going cheaply, the Friedman is gorgeous, a real test for the influencers being paid to do reviews would be to Gig them, conpare their toys they are being paid to review against grown up gear, NONE of them want to do it, wonder why?

    • @TheGuitalian

      Digital and modelers can be quite handy, there are many situations where they are really useful, but I can't fall in love with them, while a real amp even through a reactive load, IRs and monitors still keep its magic.

      @@TheGuitalian Its easy for many people to get lost in buying gear instead of playing guitar, and should be that for the sake of creating music and entertaining an audience, rarely does the audience care about the gear, only whether you have entertained them, I think all this gear focus holds many people back, my rig is simple, usually either a Marshall or a Katana, and Guitars with decent pickups, all the floor toys are just stuff to go wrong and trip over. Let's be honest more than 99% of people aren't going to make more than beer money playing guitar, the modellers are ideal for bedroom players, that Friedman is a serious pro piece of gear, no point having it unless you do music as a day job, I could afford it, but it would be wasted on me, I think most people would be better buying decent studio monitors than an amp anyway, if they do play gigs, very unlikely in the average small venue or pub to need an amp like that.

      @@makinganoise6028 I can add on my own, my first amplifier appeared in 2010, in 2011 I bought a Diezel VH4, every concert I carried it and was happy to have such a sound and it sounded very worthy on many venues. In 2017 I bought a Friedman BE100 v2 and am even happier with this awesome amp! To this day I use it in concerts, at home in the offices at 2:12 and 4:12 and in recordings and I am satisfied, now there is Diezel Hagen, a very cool monster. What I want to say is that I also have an Ax FX3 and I am happy to use it for various tasks. I do not make money with music, but I think if you are doing something like music or other creative work, then why should you save? This is what motivates you to record, invent, strive to sound and look better! The phrase will go anyway does not suit those who enjoy their hobby, don’t give a fuck that you won’t earn money! The creator created the amplifier for another creator to create music on it, so what the fuck is the problem?! Create and do not count your money as if you cannot afford it, everything is possible, the main thing is to strive!

      I'm really surprised that this level of gatekeeping is still popping up in guitar comment sections. Music isn't a pissing contest. The only people I've ever met that gatekeep like this have been people with tons of expensive gear but little to no skills to get the juice out of them. All talk, no walk.
      If you're taking an amp like this on the road you either have an offensive amount of money at your disposal or you simply have no idea how badly you're degrading the value of what is tantamount to an investment in amplifier format. Modelers are made for the road. That's why they cram all the routing options into the chassis. Amps like this (while perfectly capable on tour, of course) are not a good idea to take on the road with you unless you enjoy lighting cash on fire or putting a big ol' thief's bullseye on your touring trailer. For 75% of people that will buy this amp it is best suited for studio/home use.
