  • @StuartStephen
    @StuartStephen Před 3 lety +50

    The serve is so complex, but I like how you break down this shot. My coach says my technique is good, but he just tells me to commit more. I'm not really making any progress and getting frustrated with it. I'm playing within my limits to try to get it in the box instead of getting the technique nailed. Your videos are helping massively between my lessons/games.

    • @rbrianharris
      @rbrianharris Před 11 měsíci

      "Commit more," isn't observable, measurable, or ultimately actionable. Maybe it works if you're a 5.0 player with solid grooved strokes. I would be frustrated too.

    UNBELIEVEABLE!! I have taken a number of serve lessons from several pros. No pro has been able to break the serve motion down the way you did.
    I just tried the motion and hit the box fast and straight. Thank you so much. You have invigorated my game and enhanced the joy of playing!

    I see players who won't come to CZcams to learn how to hit the ball, maybe consciously or unconsciously believing free stuff isn't worth their time. Yet, with no other coaching available, your channel and others have fast tracked my return to the game after 40 years away from it. More than just beginners can benefit from the lessons so many great tennis channels have posted.

  • @JosephYoYo
    @JosephYoYo Před 3 měsíci +1

    This is an excellent example of "leading with the elbow". This part of the service is so similar to a throwing motion. I think some of my favorite youtube coaches miss the forest for the trees when they say "the serve is nothing like a throwing motion", because they have important stuff in common! Leading with the elbow is one example that is often missed because of how fast they happen in tennis and baseball. Maybe those coaches haven't analysed baseball pitchers in slow motion.
    Edit: It also describes pronation very naturally and intuitively.

    Thank you for the video! I never practiced the serve and mostly just rallied. I’ve tried these techniques twice and it’s going to take a lot of practice. I still struggle with the timing. The second time I made the mistake of going through the full motion when I should have started with the racket in the elevated position like you demonstrated. Hopefully I will get the hang of it soon. It’s so frustrating! The inconsistent ball makes the timing even more difficult. But I will keep at it. Thanks!
