My sever is amazing this was useless
@@zacharygiarrusso4591 Bro, you are mean, this vid helped me a lot
i've watched hundreds of tennis serve videos to gain tips for my students... this is by far my favorite
The serve is so complex, but I like how you break down this shot. My coach says my technique is good, but he just tells me to commit more. I'm not really making any progress and getting frustrated with it. I'm playing within my limits to try to get it in the box instead of getting the technique nailed. Your videos are helping massively between my lessons/games.
"Commit more," isn't observable, measurable, or ultimately actionable. Maybe it works if you're a 5.0 player with solid grooved strokes. I would be frustrated too.
UNBELIEVEABLE!! I have taken a number of serve lessons from several pros. No pro has been able to break the serve motion down the way you did.
I just tried the motion and hit the box fast and straight. Thank you so much. You have invigorated my game and enhanced the joy of playing!
I watched this yesterday while on the court. The next day, I came out and played my doubles match following the progression, and my serve immediately got better.
This is the new best video on serve on youtube.
Appreciate that very much, Cris. -Ian
I see players who won't come to CZcams to learn how to hit the ball, maybe consciously or unconsciously believing free stuff isn't worth their time. Yet, with no other coaching available, your channel and others have fast tracked my return to the game after 40 years away from it. More than just beginners can benefit from the lessons so many great tennis channels have posted.
This is an excellent example of "leading with the elbow". This part of the service is so similar to a throwing motion. I think some of my favorite youtube coaches miss the forest for the trees when they say "the serve is nothing like a throwing motion", because they have important stuff in common! Leading with the elbow is one example that is often missed because of how fast they happen in tennis and baseball. Maybe those coaches haven't analysed baseball pitchers in slow motion.
Edit: It also describes pronation very naturally and intuitively.
Ian you are the best and the easiest instructor to learn from!
Believe me, online there are many but no one has the holy gift that you have when clearly explain "concepts and how to" that are not easy at all normally to understand!
Congratulation from Rome Italy, i follow all your videos and im really looking forward to improve quickly since im not anymore a teen ager! :-)
That's very kind of you, Maurizio, thank you so much. Appreciate your support! -Ian
Great instruction with the breakdown into the basic elements of the serve! Love the reference of the palm direction (out-in-out) -- so easy to remember! Thank you for this instruction.
The only video I watched so far that really helped me understand a basic serve. Thanks for the great teaching moment !
I've watched so many videos to try and get my serves right, and this breaks down everything so nicely! I want to unlearn everything and start over! Thank you!👌🏿
I've watched a few 'how to serve' videos and this one is by far the best. The breakdown of the technique with accompanying videos is amazing. Really appreciated the tips for grip as well!
So happy to hear that, thanks for watching!
Great video man! Such a detailed, coherent, understandable and step-by-step explanation of something as abstract as the biomechanics of a movement that you have never performed. Thanks a lot!!!
That was beautifully done! The best explanation of the service motion by far! Great analysis. Much appreciated Ian!
Great instructions. I watched this a few years back, recorded my practice, go back to the instructions, corrected my mistake and it worked like a charm. The fundamentals were spot on 👌🏾.
It sounds very clear..I am going to try it and update you about it
Best serve tutorial ever. Helps me a lot. Thank you Ian!
Can't wait to try it! Thanks!
As a new player I was having a lot of difficulty with the serve but this video changed everything! I literally mean in just one day I was able to get most of my serves in the box and it really boosted my confidence as well. Thank you so much!!!
The 'in' and ' out' is really effective! thanks!
Thank you. As a school tennis coach this was an excellent video to break the serve down.
Thanks for the very informative serving the tennis ball
Very good instruction thank you. Off to practice.
Best tip ever. Simple but wonderfully helpful.
Nice video. Cool set up. I'm ready to take it to the court.
I've struggled for years with serving and after this it worked like a charm!
I agree, perfect video, no one has explained these important arm actions so exactly. Always hear the term of "like throwing a ball" and that's all, but this here is the deal.
This video helped me so much. I will aim for consistency with my serve, then add power
Fantastic video. And thank you for such a humble approach. Thoroughly enjoyed and subscribed
Hi, coach. This video help me a lot, especially the palm outside , inside and outside idea. Thanks.
This is the best video I found at internet about how serve properly!! Great video!! Thanks for your time helping us to improve our tennis!!
thank you so much for sharing this with us. your explanation is clear and precise.
A great great video for beginner serving, really well explained & comfortable steps laid out i follow. Thank you
Thank you, this was helpful.
Very good explanation and breakdown Ian! I’m a relatively experienced player with a decent serve but I find it breaks down from time to time so this is a very good simple mechanism that I can implement! Thanks!
thanks for sharing the tutorial...very helpful
Excellent. Thank you.
Wonderful explanation...just what I needed!
That was a fantastic lesson!! Great job!! Congrats!! Keep it simple always!!!
Bruh, this channel helps me so much. Thanks coach 👍🏾🎾🎾🎾
Very helpful thank you Coach
superb lesson. liked it a lot
Thank you for this video! great info
Great video, super for people new to tennis!
You’re so awesome!!!
Step my step is helping me so much. Thank you.
This is AWESOME.... thank you so much!!!!
Crystal clear yet brillant. Thank you.
another great video. thanks ian!
Super good video, thank you!!
Great stuff as usual... thanks for this!
Very good information, thanks!
Excellent!!!! Thanks
Great teaching!
Excellent! Helped me so much after recording myself on video, I was able to better understand what you are teaching here.
This video is so helpful thanks man
Thanks for this excellent lesson!! my son referred me to this video, really the best!
Thank you for the video! I never practiced the serve and mostly just rallied. I’ve tried these techniques twice and it’s going to take a lot of practice. I still struggle with the timing. The second time I made the mistake of going through the full motion when I should have started with the racket in the elevated position like you demonstrated. Hopefully I will get the hang of it soon. It’s so frustrating! The inconsistent ball makes the timing even more difficult. But I will keep at it. Thanks!
I wish all tennis players, including the very best ones can see and appreciate this great concept/advice.
You are the Man, Ian.
Thanks so much for this useful lesson...Watching this 9 min video made a huge difference in my serves
Great info.
I hit the ball pretty well with all the other strokes except the serve and overhead.
Now I plan on starting from scratch and learning to hit a proper serve.
Keep up the great videos.
Most players don't use proper serving technique, but instead just "push" the serve in.
Thanks
Very helpful, thank you!
Great video. Thanks
Thank you Ian!!!, great explanation, I love it!!! Keep doing this
Fantastic. Mechanics shown slowly are very helpful
You have some kind of superpower Ian. Your videos seems to match my needs just at the best moment everytime XD. Thank you man.
Great to hear, Grannx. -Ian
Thank you for this. I am helping coach the local high school freshman and JV tennis team. Breaking down the throwing motion and converting that to a serving motion has been a huge help to them. If I could just keep them in a continental grip rather than switching to a frying pan grip after two serves.
Will there be a follow up video to this video that will show us how to take our serve to the next level?
amazing explanation!
Great comprehensive overview
Ian, you rock! You're such a great instructor!!
Appreciate that, Ann!
Thank you for clear explanation. It works
Great Video.. So Simple ..So Easy to follow ...Nothing too fancy .. Just fundamentals
Ian, thank God u created this video. I will forever watch this over and over again. God bless you
Best instruction videos thanks a lot.
One of the best lessons taught on service. I followed and you will not believe, I can serve with 100% confidence. I could achieve 10/10 clean serves this morning. I can share my video if there is a WhatsApp number at your end. Many thanks to you, Ian.
Great video. I like the stepwise approach and only focus on the essetials. Should have seen this 30 years ago
He is really good, makes things easy because he delivers great concepts in simplicity and effectiveness
This is really the best basic video do this and you cant go wrong
I'm in south korea, and my couch don't know how to teach THE FUNDEMENTAL MECHANISM OF SERVE. My shoulder is sick and tired of wrong motion. I'm going to practice a lot and tell you how it works. Thanks a lot. I'm your new subscriber~
Have you had a chance to practice? Let me know how you're doing!
Progress?
practising in my room and without thrwoing the ball already note the difference! thanks!!
I like it, man. Thanks
Genial!!! Me encantó la didáctica!!! Me ayuda muchísimo!!!!!!!!! Saludos desde Argentina y muchas gracias por compartir tus valiosos conocimientos y práctica de una forma tan clara!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a great video. Easy to follow, logical and productive. Top job!
Thanks so much, Julian!
This is the most direct and simple explanation. The best one I’ve seen so far. Thanks
You're very welcome!
You make it look so easy
Brilliant, you’ve served us well!
Seriously, that is a really helpful breakdown. Thank you.
Bro this helped me so much especially how the motion relates to throwing a ball thank you keep up the great work, Ian!
Good to hear, thanks for watching!
This is a wonderful wonderful video guide on basic serving! 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Good job, quite helpful....I'll know for sure after I practice what you have suggested.
Glad to hear that, John!
thanks! it's perfect.
Awesome, straight forward and easy to follow steps to hit a good consistent serve. Thank you!
You're very welcome, New Life! Which part was most helpful to you? -Ian
I’ve been playing for like 5 years and my serve really sucks but I already can feel a difference after just practice the ball thing
Thanks this video. My serve is better than before I watched it.
My serve is frustratingly inconsistent; the ball goes into the net or goes long more than 70% of the time. I found your excellent video when looking for help in rebuilding my serve the correct way. You have a gift for communicating clearly and simply. Your video has inspired me to go out the courts first thing in the morning and practice these drills. Thank you!
If you keep missing and can’t find a way to improve. Just tap the ball and hit it lightly so you can get it in
this helped me a lot, thank you very much
You're welcome!
this was so helpful oh my god i noticed an insane difference within like 15 minutes
Great stuff Ian! Learning so much about production from you. I got a LONG way to go! 😅
Excellent explanation! Thanks very much.
You're very welcome, Calum. -Ian
Glad to go back to this video as serve wasnt good, my racket drop never gets into correct slot position instead touches opposite side of back, if i understand correctly as you begin racket drop shoulder needs to turn simultaneously, my shoulder turn has been a little late which makes serve ineffective, great basics video!
