Rangefinder Review $1000 vs $100 do you need to spend the money?

- In this video I do a quick comparison between a Leica1600B and a ALDI (Maginon LRF800) rangefinder. Do you need to spend 10 times the money to get a rangefinder for most hunting situations? Will the ALDI rangefinder do the job?

For the money and warranty they are very hard to beat. For larger targets and distances under 600mtrs I think they will do the job very well. Let me know how yours goes as far as distance as mine would not range out to 800 so far but many I have spoken to have mentioned that their units did.
Bolt-Action Productions had it out of the box 580 meters max, top of a hill ,no cloud fine day,no obstructions to a large gumtree just before a treeline.
Yep that sounds about right with similar results to what I have had. The display needs to be held up to the sky sometimes to get a bit of contrast to read it but that is no deal breaker IMO. Like I mentioned it will do the job for those extended hunting shots and will really suit majority of hunters. I wouldn't rely on one for trying to get accurate ranges on small targets but for general use they should do it well.

I agree that the Aldi is ok for most of hunters and for shots at ranges below 500 metres.
In case you are a long distance shooter, after 1000 metres the Leica sucks too.

Yep, I picked one up at Aldi for $149. Drove an hour to get it but it was worth it. Very basic no frills range finder. All I need.
They definitely do the job that's for sure.

I still have an old school one that's not even digital or electronic. Just a wheel you spin and line up the clarity with the dial that shows the yardage. Lol.

Hello looking for a range finder for deer hunting you were talking about the feature of the finder to not picking up sticks and twigs or what not what is that feature called also do you know if the halo450xl has that feature
I am not sure whether that feature/function actually has a name but on the ALDI rangefinder it is just a function you can select by pressing a button. If chosen it won't range anything under 150yds. I am not familiar with the Halo450XL so I really can't answer your question.

Hi Steve I've just been wandering if you have much to do with Leica and if so what's their warranty and customer service like.
If you are talking Leica Australia then Rick and the team are good to deal with but you will need to show proof of purchase for any warranty claim. You also need to bare in mind that most repairs will be done overseas so your down time can be considerable.

I just use a cheap simmons one does the job for me , I almost bought a leica before this if I needed a better one or wanna up grade I will thanks for the vid
Mate I was pretty impressed with the little ALDI unit and for basic hunting situations it would do the job as would most of the units on EBay. The Leica is definitely a more precision unit and better for varminting as it has a more accurate and powerful laser. For larger targets and shorter distances I reckon the cheaper ones would do the job quite well at a fraction of the price.
i have the leica and its awesome. have had cheaper rangefinder’s and they have never been that accurate and gave multiple readings . had no issues with the leica and imo well worth the money. at the end of the day it’s down to personal choice👍 good review, any chance of a review on thermal units? been looking at the leica and at $7k its a fair bit of coin, but how does it match up the rest????
The older Leica units have never let us down. We still use 3 or 4 1600b’s between our group and they have been fantastic but not everyone can afford these sort of items. I’m probably not the person to be doing reviews on Thermals at this stage. Nathan Stuart (Edge of the Outback) and Rodney Morris (RJM Hunting) are the people to speak to on that topic👍
@@BoltActionProductions thanks for the reply, agree with not everyone can afford the leica but they are outstanding, have their binos as well which are another level. mind you had to sell a kidney to buy them but save save and save again and buy once buy right 👍
great review but i had a cheap unbranded one and lasted a few uses then the projector went on it and is barley visible but can still be used as binos
Should have returned it for a refund. Aldi don't question returns in my experience
apparenty from the seller there isnt anyting he could do and contacted the wholesaler said that to its just cheap chinese crap so i orded a new redfield one should be here soon
The Leica's have never let me down but nor should they at their pricing. Hopefully the Redfield will get the job done
mines been spot on to 400, cant complain.

All rangefinders are spot on, if you sight in with the rangefinder you're using. Now if you use another brand someone else is using. It won't be spot on. As long as you sight in with the rangefinder you're using, and use it. It doesn't matter if your rangefinder is off 10 yards or even 100 yards. Compared to what mine reads.
