    Who knew some video from the 80s or something would be a good starter to learning about diesels

      As the speaker summarizes himself, following research allowed direct injection to be the most widely used. Im unaware of any idi diesels being in production for the last 25 years or so, at least not for automotive applications.

    IdI is quiter lol, only when comparing a 1.8l idi to straight 6 10l+ di?

      They absolutely are. All the mercedes idis are definitely quieter than the di. Same with all the ford diesel engines. It's at the very least a much less "sharp" sound with an idi

    • @Ty4ons
      @Ty4ons Před 2 lety

      @@benjaminturpin2749 Petrol direct injection is also noisier than port injection since the injectors have to be much higher pressure.
      Modern direct injection diesels are also doing a lot to mask that noise and are more silent in other areas, it would be interesting to hear how silent a modern IDI diesel could be.

      @dsimila1 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yes or when comparing two popular tractor engines, Perkins A3.152 swirl chamber diesel or the direct injected AD3.152.
      These two are identical except head, piston and injectors. The older swirl chamber A3.152 model is quieter and has practically no knock.
      Another example would be late 1990:s Mitsubishi L200 compared to late 2010:s Mitsubishi L200, the later has a lot more knock.

    Not true,IDI diesels are noisier than DI diesels due to uneven burning. DI are much quiter as they burn evenly

      👍 true for modern engine... But low injection pressure and lower wall temperature in DI may result in longer delay and noisier combustion
