Back when I was a kid (1970's) I'd write to teams in all the different sports by regular old fashioned mail. I'd usually say something like, "I am a fan of your team. I will be rooting for you this year." Most teams-I'd say 90%-would send you something back. Usually a team logo sticker, a schedule for the current season, maybe a team picture or postcards of players on the team, and a list of souvenirs for sale. They'd send you this stuff for free. I still have some of this 50 years later. I'd also send to the NHL every year for their schedule. It would be a booklet. I even still remember the old address: "NHL, Sun Life Building, Montreal".

Im a diehard seahawks fan already and its crazy seeing people in other countries talking about our team and seeing people in the comments saying they r gonna follow us now and buy our jerseys, all i can say now is seahawks are massive everywhere we go, we are always so passionate too, i go to every home game and we have been 5-0 down and still cheered like crazy when we made it 5-1, we had other teams before (pirates, stingrays, thunder and the original seahawks in the 1980's) who won silverware too and we have great history, we also have a 4th division team the hull jets who are looking like winners in their league

The team up to COVID, was the Hull Pirates, and they folded due to a combination of COVID, City Council inertia, and an owner who basically lost interest. This time last year, we had no team and no prospect of hockey returning to Hull. Enter Matty Davies. Along with Ian and Joe, he set up this team, and all it involved, in a matter of weeks. We didn't have a good start, and didn't really have a full team 'til December, but we're not gonna finish bottom this year and we're already signing players and selling tickets for next season. I guarantee we'll be nearer the top than the bottom of the league next season. I've been watching since '89 and I've never been more excited about a new season. GO SEAHAWKS!!! 🏒👍

Brilliant video! I'm a Leeds Knights fan (we just won the same league as Hull). Matty Davies, who founded Seahawks, played for us last season. He's such a great guy, passionate, kind, loads of time for the fans (and certainly not averse to a good fight 😆). I reckon Hull will be a strong team to beat next season! I am a new NHL fan, iam supporting primarily vegas golden knights. But I also like every California team. I feel some love to non-traditional hockey markets in general just because I am from Puerto Rico, an obvious non-traditional market.
Their head coach is also former NHLer Tim Wallace who played 101 games and 382 in the A. We have other former NHL and AHLers in the leagues and draft picks.
I love the idea of this video! Unfortunately, it shows that the NHL teams have an utter reliance on broadcasters that make them money. They bend over backward for their advertisers and ignore their actual fans as a result. Hence, the blackouts and the new digital ads on the flippin boards, or anywhere it can be crammed in. As a fan, I feel betrayed by the NHL. But I don't know how they can change the system so it can be profitable. I think if each team had more grass root movements, they would do better financially because the fans would be bigger supporters of their team, and then the broadcasters would be beholden to them, instead of the other way around.
This is why the sport wont grow its all too business anymore and then you have teams like Arizona, Florida, or budding hockey markets make it hard and many of them fumble rebuilds like look at the leafs took til Dubas pretty much stepping in, but the thing to promote about hockey its the energy it gives the comradery and the fact that the literally share blood sweat and tears. I grew up a wings fan and still am and i cheer for other teams too cause each team has its uniqueness but Detroit is one of the historical teams that in my eyes showed how a bunch of nationalities can work together to succeed.
I live in Ontario Canada and a huge hockey fan but it is sad the NHL doesn't reach out to you. Have you tried even emailing say the AHL or CHL teams because minor league hockey here needs a boost to in fan base. I have family that work in schools and most kids in schools theses days don't care about hockey but rather watch soccer or basketball. So maybe minor league hockey teams might reach out to you

It's hard to answer your question, like why should I be a fan? Uh...because we have cool uniforms or we support this or that cause. You should just ask questions based on your values and be more specific, such as: am a animal rights person. Does your organization do anything to ensure animal welfare. Either that, or investigate it for yourself because they probably get 5000 emails a week, I'm sure.

You should have asked teams from the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL
Should have reached out to the ECHL. Teams like the Toledo Walleye and Kalamazoo Wings have pretty active accounts.
