I’ve always thought of the Saul goes with Walt what if interesting so here’s a personal theory
      1. The same things happen except Walt never leaves the cabin (dying by cancer) and tasks Saul to give the money to his family
      2. Walt leaves the cabin earlier to kill jack and the gang with Saul except this time he leaves the car keys with Saul (who stays watching from afar) which means walt never asks to see Jesse and never gets hit by the bullet and then parts ways with Saul (not before asking him to give his money to his family) as for Jesse either Walt finds him and releases him or Walt never finds him and he dies from hunger

  • @detritusofseattle
    @detritusofseattle Před 10 měsíci +10

An interesting outcome, to be sure.
I do see a few potential problems, though.
    1. Jesse being killed would immediately get the DEA's interest, and although they might not necessarily believe Hank 100%, there is no way that they'd leave it all alone. The fact that a guy who came ratting to the cops got whacked just shortly after the guy he accused was released from custody would draw some serious attention.
    2. One of the other things Hank and Gomey do when they get Walt is they also get him talking on the phone, which they are presumably recording. Walt confesses to a variety of things that, together with his actions (which directly corroborate the existence of the illegal funds, and thus Jesse's story) and the tape from Jesse would absolutely be enough to justify arresting him. This is extra true if Jesse dies.
Most likely what would end up happening is that the federal government would go to a judge, get a search warrant, and tear everything in Walt's place to pieces looking for evidence. And they would likely find it. Not necessarily in the form of illegal stuff like the methylmene or the drug itself, or even cash, but in the form of things like electronic funds transfers, faulty receipts, etc. Skylar is a good money launderer, but once Uncle Sam gets curious, starts really looking closely at the operation, they're going to peel back the layers and find the rot.
They'd probably figure out that he uses a burner phone, and since Jesse would know the phone numbers for them, it would be trivial for them to put in a subpoena to the phone company and find out who he's been talking to, maybe even get text messages. His connection to Mike - whose numbers they would again get from Jesse- Lydia, Todd, Jack, etc. would give them cause to go sniffing around Lydia, Todd, and Jack. That's bad for Walt, not just legally, but also in terms of, you know, getting got.
It'd be a tough case to build, but here's the really messed up bit: the government can seize EVERYTHING prior to even being convicted. Civil asset forfeiture does not require a conviction. They can just take his house, his cars, his businesses, everything, by going to court and presenting proof that these things are more likely than not to have come from an illegal source. Without the ability to show where he got the money and say it came from legal sources- which he can't because even the cover story he told Hank, that it came from illegal gambling, involves him committing crimes. Proceeds of crime can and will be seized.
And actually, that's another bit of bad news: If Walt sticks to the gambling story, he's still screwed. Maybe the government wouldn't have come after him prior to all this Heisenberg revelation stuff over mere gambling, but since the government is very horny for him and would likely believe Jesse and Hank because of all the circumstantial stuff, now they'll throw any charge they can at him. Tax evasion, money laundering (the gambling was illegal, so technically any attempt to hide that is money laundering), illegal gambling, fraud, you name it. Maybe they can't nail him for drug charges, but they can get him on other things.
The feds are absolutely relentless when they really want someone. And this is why Skylar was absolutely right to freak out over the IRS getting nosey around Ted's finances. She rightly inferred that if they got too curious about Ted they would have questions about her, and once they did that, it would be curtains for them.
    3. Oh it'd be far worse than being fired for Hank. Remember the tape that Walt made? Well, not only could Walt use it at this point, or have it discovered when the feds raided his home, business, etc., but in their search of Walt and Skylar's finances, they'd almost certainly uncover the fact that Walt paid for Hank's physical therapy and treatments, and that would corroborate his story. It already looks really bad for Hank just having his brother be implicated in all of this, but if you add it all up, Hank would look quite guilty. The only thing that would give him any shot is the fact that he is the one that arrested Walt.
In my opinion, the only way Walt could have actually gotten away with it, even in the absence of the money, is if he didn't react to Jesse's bait. If he would have either not answered his phone or immediately ripped the battery out and destroyed it, they'd have been dead in the water.
Oh, the government might poke around a bit based on his testimony- I mean, why would he lie? Any investigator worth their badge would take Jesse's story seriously, especially if some of the reported details other than the drug bit match up. - but their inquiries would probably mostly just amount to surveillance, maybe a few sting attempts like Hank and Gomey already tried. Subpoenas for financial records, maybe, but not necessarily. As long as Walt isn't stupid, keeps his mouth shut, and bides his time, they won't have much to go on. It's not nothing, as Jesse's testimony would have been powerful enough to get some of those warrants, but it wouldn't be enough to indict either. He could still lose his stuff temporarily to a civil asset forfeiture, but he might also be able to win it back in court with Saul's help. I think he'd be successful, especially if Saul did what Saul does best and pulls some chicanery.

Hmm, Huel and Kuby would definitely not go to Mexico. Having been part of Saul's operation, they're definitely aware of the Disappearing Man. Huel had lifted the weed off Jesse when he was planning to disappear, to keep him from being high at the pickup. Huel and Kuby would have immediately gone to the Disappearing Man to make sure there's no chance Walt ever finds them.
Meanwhile, the fiasco with Walt and Hank would hit a speedbump as Jesse's confession also implicated Todd in the killing of Drew Sharpe. The DEA, remembering the reach Jack and his crew exerted against Gus Fring's employees, would keep Jesse locked down at a safehouse rather than go to general lockup. The DEA is forced to release Walt, but only after cutting a deal that the confession tape be suppressed in parts implicating Walt. The rest is used to get a warrant to raid Jack's compound, resulting in a shootout that leaves several of his crew dead. The survivors keep their mouths shut about Walt, not wanting to be snitches.
Jesse is put in witness protection for his confession and testimony bringing down Todd and the survivors of Jack's crew for Drew Sharpe's murder and pinning the entire meth operation on them, leaving Walt out to avoid embarrassing the DEA. He lives a quiet life in solitude, enjoying a quiet life in a liberal corner of the US, far from the likes of Jack's crew.
Walt is forced to rely on the carwash business to support his family, with too much scrutiny of his actions by the DEA to risk going back to cooking meth. It's not as much money as he had or used to make, but he can comfortably provide for his family while resuming his cancer treatment.
Saul would eventually disappear when the barrel of cash is delivered and he realized the money belongs to Walt. Knowing Walt's nowhere near as powerful or dangerous as he once was without his wealth, Saul calls the Disappearing Man to make use of his services, asking to move close to Florida where he can reach out to Kim under a new identity.
Elsewhere, Huel and Kuby had been moved to a far-off corner of the country. The two live quiet lives of comfort, putting Saul's old tricks to use, opening a laundromat to avoid suspicion from the IRS, staying close friends while taking the occasional trip to cities of sin where they can blow off some steam. Eventually, one or both get married and they occasionally reminisce about getting out of the game alive.

If I was Huel or Kuby, I'd run away much farther than Mexico -- maybe somewhere like South Korea where there's no chance Walter or Jack could find us. The awesome thing about this what if is that it isn't a joke video, and even though jesse is the only one who dies, it's still a bittersweet one, especially for hank, saul, and walter, but at least walter provides for his famliy and stays with good relations with Jack's crew, saul escapes and lives up his life, hank doesn't die, and who knows, maybe he'd think about it for sometime and actually forget what happened between him and walter, huel and kuby really did fix the story at the final hour for everyone, well done dude!

Alright school is over and I just finished the video, here's my thoughts:
1.This was definitely an unexpected storyline. It's the last thing I would have thought of, but I was pleasently surprised!
    2. Something I've come to notice with these "What If?" videos is that in the ones where Walt comes out on top in the end, he's always so much worse and so much more evil than he was in the actual series, including season 5. This brings a whole new meaning to "Walter White got lucky.". Sure, the original meaning of "Walter White got lucky." that said that Walt killing the Salamancas, Gus Fring, and his rise to Heisenberg as well as his ending was much more luck instead of skill is still definitely true, but now I wanna add my own attachment to the phrase. I also believe now, thanks to your videos, that Walter White got lucky, but with a special emphasis on Walter White. After seeing your videos and realizing the sheer amount of potential Breaking Bad had for much darker storylines, I believe that Walt was VERY lucky that he didn't make a choice that completely transformed him into Heisenberg. Don't get me wrong, he lost about 90% of his morals in the real season 5, but even still, deep down, there was still a bit of Walter White left in there amongst the black of Heisenberg. But in this video? Well, in this video, there is definitely no Walter White. This video is just Heisenberg getting his way. So, that's thought number 2. Walter White was lucky in both ways. He was lucky that he never got killed on his journey to becoming Heisenberg, and he's lucky he was never able to finish the journey before it was too late.
3.I felt bad for Hank and ESPECIALLY Jesse in this video. I felt bad for Hank because he lost his job which probably made him lose his money, and therefore his house too. Though Hank did predict that that would happen to him if he went in, so I guess he was right. I felt bad for Jesse because he was finally about to be freed from the man that had been manipulating him for the past year and a half, only for himself to be the one thrown in jail. Jesse was about to put Walt, the guy who got Emilio, Krazy-8, Combo, Jane, Gale, Gus, Mike, and so many others killed, behind bars, but he was set free due to "lack of evidence". Which is really shitty by the way, I mean, Jesse has this super long bone-chilling confession where he is very clearly telling the truth and putting real emotions behind his words, only for it to be dismissed and BURIED thanks to Saul, who has surprisingly low morals in this video despite caring about Jesse in earlier seasons. And then, after all that, Jesse is a broken man going to prison, where his last moments are him getting strangled to death with nobody bothering to help him. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not as nasty a death as in your "What If Walter Outsmarted Hank & Jesse" video, but it's still pretty messed up.
    3. I was really worried early on that since Walt's money was gone, Hank's death scene would be the same, only Walt would be joining him. I was both pleasently and unpleasently surprised to find out that was not the case. On one hand, Hank is alive. On the other hand, he's not a DEA agent anymore. So, which one is worse? Death or no purpose?
Now for some critisisms I have for the story:
    1. I think Skyler was way too okay with what Walt was doing in this story. Aside from having pretty much no reaction to what she knew Walt planned on doing to Jesse once he got in prison, she just kind of goes along with Walt getting back into cooking meth too. There's no mini-storyline of Skyler's mental health declining or anything of that sort. She just kind of accepts it.
    2. I think Steve Gomez could have had some lines. Gomez might have been able to save Hank's job, since he was there too.
    3. Although I can imagine Walt killing Jesse in prison, I can't imagine Saul going along with it. Saul clearly cares about Jesse in the show, and so it's hard to imagine him going along with such a detailed and planned murder like this, especially when Jesse is the victim.
And that's all! What did you think? Sorry if my wording is a bit off, I'm kind of tired, haha. Anyways, if you read all this, thank you! And, once again, what'd ya think?

on another note, after rewatching this, i think huell and kuby genuinely seem like they wouldn't use drugs. dunno, something about saul's muscle makes me think he would outright discourage them from taking any since that would definitely affect their performance
i think the worst huell and kuby would do would get blackout drunk from time to time, but i think realistically speaking they'd eventually manage to find out one way or another that walt has gone legit, saul has dropped off the face of the earth, hank has been disgraced, and jesse is dead. either way, walt's focus definitely isn't on them anymore, so i think they'd eventually just settle into their secluded albeit comfortable life in their mansion together, with the only worry being that they might catch the neo nazi's attention
but with good enough managing of their resources i think they'd lead comfy lives till the end. huell has a family in his home town so it's likely that he'd arrange to give the money to them once he kicks the bucket, and kuby might try finding something to do with his life afterwards

In the sniper scene, we see Gaff gun down Nick before Mike saves Jesse from becoming his next victim. If Mike simply wasn't able to, the entirety of season 4's conclusion couldn't play out the way it did.
In a timeline in which Gus can't use Jesse to cook a batch for the cartel and Walt can't manipulate Jesse into turning onto the former later on, it's just going to play out very differently!
