Black Texas Cowboy Charley Willis is credited with writing the old Cowboy song "Goodbye Old Paint" sometime around the 1870s during his long 1,000 mile cattle drive north along the Chisholm Trail from Texas to the Wyoming Territory. I love Michael Martin Murphey's version of this classic Cowboy song.
After some searching, this is my favorite version. It's closest to the way my third grade teacher used to sing this song (Micheal Martin Murphy here has a better voice, of course). My favorite kid sing-along songs were the ones that brought a tear to my eye, in other words, most of the cowboy songs.
1st time hearing Michael Martin Murphy. Real sorry not heard him before....
Beautiful song
This is one of my favorite songs ❤️ it’s kinda sad though
I played this song in 6th grade band on the xylophone. I always wondered why my teacher in NYC was teaching this song, but its so sad as an adult!
“Banjo” recommended this song.
