    you cant step in to the river in the same place, because you corrupted the fountainhead and all that flow from it.

    1. Earth = Statement of appearance : it appears as though there are opposites separate from each other.
    2. Water = Statement of Truth :
    There is that which is.
    There is not that which is that is
    other than that which is, for if
    there was anything other, it
    would still be that which is that
    we call other, thus not other at
    all.
    Therefore, that which is, is all -
    inclusive.
    3. Air = Statement of Reality : Since
    that which is, is all - inclusive,
    there is nothing other or separate.
    Therefore, whatever appears as
    things separate from and oppo-
    site to each other, is in Reality,
    the wholeness of the All in one
    In All, expressed as the -
    creative fill in the blank to
    ponder, contemplate
    (mentation) until :
    - ie.
    complementary poles/
    extensions of the same
    continuum. (metanoia)
    4. Fire = metaphorical mutation,
    insight, revelation, (metanoia) : ie.
    complementary poles or
    extensions of the same
    continuum.
    5. Space = corresponding mutation in experience. Outer reflects, mirrors the inner, the new understanding.
    Mentation - Metanoia - Mutation

    thankyou for taking these hundred puzzle pieces, scratched and haphazard, of a ten thousand piece puzzle, and showing us how to deal with them, how to tease out (without teasing) the logos behind the man behind the 'word's
    Also, the iamblichus reference to aristotle's "soul" i am looking forward to diving into...on a side note, listened to iamblicus' audiobook of life of pythagoras today while at work, he mentions heraclitus twice that i picked up on

    51:55 "The goal of true philosophy"
    encounter/engage with the text yourself
    note the interpretation of others [commentaries]
    then revisit the text and develop your own interpretation using you own independent observation [shape you own vision]. In scholarship you're not allowed to bring in your own observations and create a new understanding - essentially just doing reportage.

    Hermeneutic: axiom = self-evident Truth.
    Is, is. Is not, is not.
    Potential = Being
    Actual = Becoming (actualized)
    The One all-encompassing Principle of Nature is pressure mediation.
    The two phases of pressure mediation are centripetal convergence and centrifugal divergence.
    The rhythm of Life is a movement and a rest. The optimum (Heaven), is always found somewhere between the extremes of too much and too little (hell).
    Logos:
    Since only That which is Creative Intelligence can either affirm or deny that That which is either is or is not Creative Intelligence, That which is, is Creative Intelligence.
    One (all-inclusive) = Creative Intelligence
    God is a title that we bestow upon our highest value. God is Light, God is Love, God is Power. Actually God as Creative Intelligence is all three and ever more.
    God = Creative Intelligence
    Since Creative Intelligence is all-inclusive, Creative Intelligence is omnipresent. We are all It, to an unknowable/inexhaustible extent, as the facets of a Diamond are 'both' distinct from each other 'and' the Diamond itself.
    Love is the recognition of our shared Being.
    Law = according to one's nature.
    We are here to transform our temporal caterpillar psyche into an Eternal Butterfly Soul, by integrating our Heart, Mind and Will.
    When the Heart aspires, the Mind inquires and the Will conspires (combines).
    Integration = Integrity.
    The unity of the Soul is integral.
    Fire = Energy
    Air = Trajectory, direction
    Water = Conversion
    Earth = Behaviour

    this interpretation is tendentious: it gives a Platonic reading of Heraclitus (e.g. the idea of participation). but Plato is very much in the Parmenidean tradition in which 'being' is ontologically prior to all (maybe except of thought which is the same as being). contrastingly, for Heraclitus 'becoming' is the metaphysical foundation of reality, for him becoming is prior to being. therefore, to give a Platonic reading of Heraclitus is as tendentious and hard-pressed as giving a Heraclitean reading of Plato/Parmenides.

      Many thanks for the astute analysis. But how do you figure for Heraclitus becoming is prior to being? Is it not true for Heraclitus that becoming and being are two views of the same thing? When Plato lost that idea, it f***** civilization till now.
