      Great video! The only thing I wish you could have done is show how you planted your fruit trees in raised gardens. Do you plant them in the ground and just apply the wood and mound dirt around them?

      Thank you very much,
      Yes put your raised beds in first, cover your grass with cardboard then add the soil,
      Plant your trees without digging into natural ground and plant them high in a slight mound as they will drop over time, stake them well and they will grow really quickly as their roots have all loose soil to grow through, so if the roots can grow really quickly the whole tree will grow so much quicker

    For growing an Avocado tree, what an awesome idea.
    How do you fill up the double bed. Do you first put rotted branches in the bottom to create good drainage?

      Hi, I put some bricks and brocket terracotta tiles in the bottom, I didn’t dig a hole as I didn’t want any water to pool any where, I didn’t use any branches etc because I didn’t want the soil to hold any extra water or any chance of mould growing under the soil, I just wanted good drainage more than anything

    Thank you so much for your tips on planting. I live in Melbourne and struggle to grow avocados. They are in raised beds and they keep dying off. What do you feed your avocados, and what am I doing wrong please? I plant all fruit trees along my fenceline as well. I felt like I was looking at my backyard ❤

    • @robbymillsfishing5290
      @robbymillsfishing5290  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hi, thanks,
      You may not be doing anything wrong with your avocados, they are just a very temperamental plant to grow, I put broken bricks and clay tiles underneath my avocados this time also to help with drainage, and I never dug a hole into the natural ground as this is a place where water can pool, I mainly just feed my plants, lime for calcium, dolarmite for magnesium to help with uptake of nutrients and minerals, and just a charlie carp and seaweed liquid fertiliser, and just really try not to water them as much as anything else in the garden,
      Bunnings does sell a phos acid treatment for soil to stop the disease that kills avocados, you could also try using that, most commercial growers use a phos acid treatment as a preventative on their trees to help prevent root rot,

    Hi Robbie, did you plat your fruit trees on the raised bed or you made raised bed after planting it?

    • @robbymillsfishing5290
      @robbymillsfishing5290  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Hi thanks for your question, I put the raised beds in first then I planted the trees in position,
      I didn’t dig down into natural ground as I didn’t want to create a spot where water would sit and pool, but rather run sideways and disperse evenly, I mounded up the soil in the raised bed around the tree when planted so I could plant it as high as possible as over time the tree will settle down and drop down, this way the trees roots are all in the soil you put in the bed so it the roots can grow really quickly hence the whole tree will grow at a rapid pace,
      I hope this makes sense 😀

    What are star pickets? How old was your avocado before it started fruiting? How old is that tree?

    • @robbymillsfishing5290
      @robbymillsfishing5290  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hi, I had the avocados in pots for 2 years and just kept cutting them back to keep them small, they have been in the ground for around 18 months now, they both should get fruit this year, they both set fruit last year but only the hass kept 4, this yyid say they will both get quite a few fruit, star pickets are a steel fencing peg that normally you would run wires through their holes to create a fence, they are very strong and very hard steel that you can’t even drill through, you can get short ones also for holding garden sleepers in place just like I have, I have screwed the sleepers to the pegs

      My sister gave my mum a avocado she grew from seed. Mum put it in the back yard, plenty of sun and it did not fruit for 10 years. EVERY year after it’s fruited and yielded easily over 60 a year. One or two years the fruit all dropped off and didn’t mature but it’s amazing. She didn’t have it in a raised but I can see why trees need to be raised for better success. In the ground they can really go crazy. All fruit trees takes patience but that’s why ppl get grafted trees. Love your garden!!! Thankyou for making this video and love the guided tour and dialogue. Your pomelo tree. Seriously this like walking through a Viet garden. Awesomeness!!!
