I think it's appropriate that the start cart had a farm tractor attached.
A little aside about the farm near the field. When I was taking my first flying lessons out of Opa Locka with Howard Trunnel, he explained that during his early years flying, (late 20's to early30's) you often landed in a farmers field, paid them for gas and often spent his nights sleeping under his wings. The team FBO, Fixed Base of Operations came about because you knew it would have a regular landing field and wasn't some guy just renting out a farmers field for planes to land on. You could tell an FBO because they mostly had wind socks, which were painted socks on a pole telling wind direction, other wise you flew over a farmers house and looked for which way the laundry was blowing.
Enjoyed it... I've made the same trip, sun was at my back, so even more beautiful.
This is my home town!!!!!!! I started flying there!!!! Awesome!

That was an excellent example of why sometimes flying vfr can be very demanding. The controller was superb in going beyond his responsibilities also.

Nice job Steveo! I have always loved flying in the mountains. I did most of my early flying around Dulles Va, and into the Shenandoah Valley. Years ago there was a TWA B727 hit the mountains west of Dulles Airport. From that day on ATC was required to give an altitude to maintain until established on a segment of an approach.

I see you experiencing the Smoky Mtn haze line! We used to call the blue haze of the area the Smoky Mtn VOR. You knew you were close to home. It's a part of life in the area. But the mountains are so wonderful.

So cool to see this. Years and years ago there was a small community college in Johnson City (Tri-Cities= Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol) that had a flight school at Tri-Cities Aviation. That is where I learned to fly. I'm living in NorCal now but still remember approaching trying to spot the field through that thick haze.

Those are beautiful mountains to fly through, I have flown from 1A5 to KHDI, which is now closed and KRZR is the new Jetport in Cleveland, TN. Sometimes out of KCHA to 8A1. But I always find myself in the mountains, I like coming in from the West, such a magnificent sight. Great vids, thanks

Great vid. Thanks. When you said "mountains" I thought you had finally made it over here to Colorado and were dodging around these 14,000 foot granite plane stoppers. I like them Tennessee hills too. They're very pretty as well.

My home area. I've flown out of TriCities a couple of times. More frequently when I was flying was at KTYS or KRKW. Love east Tennessee!

Absolutely gorgeous approach and airport.
Love the video. The terminal you parked at is where I spent a year of training. The FBO used to be directly across from there on the north side of the runway. That facility used to be Moody Aviation, a Christian school dedicated to training pilots and mechanics to work in the the bush and jungles. They moved to Spokane, WA around 2006 or 07 I believe. The area to the east of the buildings where you commented looked like it had all been redone was once three rows of t-hangers.
I loved living there. The draw to hike and explore may have something to do with why I did not finish my training there. :P
