It has grown very popular over the last decade.
But their pre-2010 albums are golden.
My own song suggestion would be to give them another try with a song named Crack The Sky. It is about drummer's sister Skye.
It's a shame there are some few views on this. Please, more Mastodon. I wouldn't exaggerate if I say this band has got me through a couple of very tough years, and this song is only the top of an iceberg.

Mastodons been one of my favorite bands for years, and yes absolutely shouts to the drummer, one of the best in the game. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs, if you pay attention to the lyrics, the story is pretty awesome.

Aww man, so glad you checked out Mastodon. My favourite band in the last 20 years They've become giants on the rock and metal circuit in the last 20 years. And you're right, they are a lot of fun. I've met them twice now and they're genuinely so cool and laid back. Hope to see more Mastodon from you soon. I'd recommend something from their last two or three albums to esse you in because their early stuff is incredibly intricate and can take a bit of getting used to
