I really appreciate that you are now independent. I was very critical of you last year, as you were not critical enough. Glad to see that has changed.
    On today's episode:
    1. Agree 100% that there is no way Pete should be traded. He needs to be a Met for life. Tom Seaver was traded on June 15, 1977, and it was the biggest mistake in our history, and I am still not over it.
    2. The comment that the Brewers have no money is not true at all. Every MLB team has HUGE amounts of money; the number of teams losing money on a cash flow basis is exactly ZERO. The only issue is how much money they want to stuff in their pockets.
The Dodgers will generate a cash surplus this year, as will the Mets and Brewers. If the Brewers had the Met payroll, they would still generate a cash surplus.
I know this may not be the conventional wisdom, but these owners have the money and the cash inflow, it is just a measure of how much money they want to make.

Only way I’d trade him is if he’s coming back after. Then we get a couple pitchers and Pete. 🤯

    • @CoreyHolzer
      @CoreyHolzer Před 6 měsíci

What would trading him do to change his mindset about resigning? Not everyone is Aroldis Chapman.

@Standdividedfalltogether actually it did as I pointed out with Chapman, but it is excrement rare and can't be counted on. Just don't say NEVER because that is blatantly wrong as it has.

Oh man that's a tough one, can't imagine Pete in anything but a Mets jersey. I think it really does depend on how the team does this year for a trade deadline deal. Will they be able to resign him next season? I suspect that as long as they decide to match other teams offers he'll stay but will another team overpay for him? Will the Mets match the offer if another team overpays by a lot? Interesting to think what the Mets might get for him though. My head hurts, I need a nap!

  • @tomf3373

I think Anthony Rizzo got the best return compared to the recent 1st basemen mentioned. He was only a rental and Kevin Alcantara has a chance of being really special

Unpopular opinion, but I think Pete Alonso should be traded if he is asking for a 7+ year deal. I don't trust how he'll age. His contact is streaky, doesn't have an elite eye, and has no defensive value. He's no Freeman or Goldschimdt. Use his money on Soto.

If they're punting 2024, ABSOLUTELY. ( to a city he doesn't like) Get top prospects and buy him back after the season ends, Win/Win

If Alonso (The Polar Bear) via Scott Boro his agent, is asking for a (7) year deal, then, the Mets can negotiate & offer him a 4-5 year deal. I'd also say that the Mets should try to keep Alonso, he can hit them out the park with men on base & he's an excellent first baseman. Excellent first basemen like the Polar Bear, who can hit them out the park with men on base are hard to come by. Let's Go Mets 🙂...

Only small market teams make moves like this. Stearns is a small market gm with a small market mindset. Should they trade him? Absolutely not. Stearns would do it though just to spit on the faces of all the fans.

Mets fans can't seem to accept that not trying to compete in 2024 is the best way moving forward. I hope the front office is smarter, and I think they are.
Since 2019, Matt Olson has 177 HR and a .259/.355/.886 slash and 140 OPS+. Pete has 192 HR and a .251/.342/.870 and 136 OPS+ (similar games played). Olson would be 2 years younger at signing and got 8/168 (22 AAV) with club option. So, anything higher than that for Pete is a clear overpay, and I think one team will give it to him. I know the package won't be impressive, but knowing that Pete isn't part of the future, the FO should definitely move him. If anything, it helps them reset the tax. Fans can say "it's not my money" but being over the tax year after the year leads to penalties that include losing draft picks. There's an opportunity cost to consider here. The smart teams know their windows.

Pete is not a superstar. He needs to get traded. We should get prospects in return then use some of those prospects in a trade for Vlad Jr for the 2025 season bc vlad is going to be a free agent after the 2025 season. Pete can only hit home runs. Mets need an all around hitter at the 3 or 4 spot

STEVE COHEN, being a rookie owner, went to the extremes. First he opened up his wallet wide and let EPPLER sign veterans who are in the tail end of their careers. Now he brought in STEARNS, who in turn has a "MINI MARKET" approach, above all, in N.Y., the sports capital of the U.S. That's why he has been signing or trading for very cheap low tier players, including to YANKEE cast offs. I dxpect the METS to be fighting for the cellar with the NATS, unless a miracle happens. AFTER ALL, ISN'T STEVE " MINI MARKET" STEARNS SUPPOSSED TO BE THE METS' MESSIAH AND SAVIOUR??
