We've been saying that about him for a while now. After training with Reynoso I was expecting to see some great improvement in MunguĂa's defence, but it's not there.
He's still taking too many heavy shots to the head, and I just don't see him doing well against higher tier fighters anytime soon. If ever.

I think the reason why the cut was so bad was due to Munguia hitting right on the spot of his glove where his two big knuckles are. Combine that with heavy hands + power.

Agreed. He needs much much more though... even his attack looks limited. At this point, and I say with disappointment, mungia is hyped up and over-rated. Time will tell though, I hope he improves. He almost seems content... but once the competition gets better... his limitations will be exposed.

Cuz Johnson decided to throw his entire weight on Mungia to try and tire him out and attempt to land some punches doesnât mean Mungia didnât know what was going on. Itâs 12 rounds not just 1 or 2 rounds. The results show in the end Mungia had it under control and was the better boxer. Just annoying hearing biased commentators. If you arenât sure of something why comment or at least state itâs an opinion and not like itâs factual

No growth from the first time I saw mungia maybe 5 fights ago... wont last much if he relies just on power... which is not great to begin with. He needs defense improvement. No disrespect to Morales, a legend and a favorite, but mungia desperately needs a new trainer. Reynosos would be fitting.
I simply think Munguia just doesnt have the goods. Thats just his style and its going to be hard to change. He literally needs to be rebuilt completely, no defense, no head movement, doesnt use ring properly, no jab, slow punches and at times a bit wild....hes a new Margarito. Morales's advice was not as detailed as I would have liked, but he did tell him to keep a distance. Obviously, there is some kind of issue between fighter and trainer because of exchange in the corner when Morales tells Munguia to not get desperate. Munguia quickly responded that he was not getting desperate. Roberto Alcanzar (Munguia's previous trainer) is a technical trainer, and Munguia did not buy into his teachings. The same might be happening with Morales. I agree with most here that Munguia will have a short career if he does not pick up boxing's defensive side. He is no longer the bigger guy at middleweight. There were some improvements as far as the selection of shots he was using. The perplexing part is the constant looking away from his opponent and looking toward his corner. Talk of Munguia fighting Canelo is a pipe dream. Munguia needs to listen to his trainer. I do not believe the issue is with the trainer. Those who say Munguia would be better off with Reynoso clearly can't see the real issue here.
