Saludos.

I want to say I saw this tour but Vandenberg's guitar is off. When we saw them, he was using a Peavey Vandenberg. They were with one of the "white" bands - either Great White or White Lion. Despite my bad memory, the opening band started to a dead audience but really warmed the crowd up - I believe it was White Lion because I didn't know about _Lady of the Valley_ until then and loved it.
Anyway WS walked in and bombed like a complete MF. Adrian's style just did not work on these songs and Vivian was just _there._ I'm gonna save this vid because it displays it so well even tho this suggests a positive crowd. But for us it was so bad people were sitting down or wandering around. There was a small core up front, but it just wasn't happening. David was obviously pissed off but carried on. When it was over people just quietly exited and left the lot. No hanging out, nothing. Really weird experience never seen in my life.

This 'performance' highlights the difference between the UK and USA fans at the time. Whilst American fans love 'glam / poodle rock Whitesnake. UK fans hated the change. In fact once 'Slide it in' was done and DC traded his old band for new ones and went to America, all the loyal old Brit fans washed their hands of the new WS

    • @ddinfant679
      @ddinfant679 Před rokem

Still Slide it In, 1987 and Slip of the tongue were the 3 best selling Whitesnake albums in the UK...
I do agree tho... The Whitesnake of the 70s and really early 80s is quite the hidden gem.. Most people don't even know how different and great that band was.
It's a shame that all the Whitesnake compilations are Slide it In and on... I think it's because David Coverdale doesn't have the rights to the stuff before Slide it In... He's the most upset about it... Just imagine if such a huge part of your career is unavailable.... And don't get me started of his solo work right after Deep Purple... Before Whitesnake, that's not even on streaming services.

Rudy's book is pretty good. I like it a lot but I hear the solos and I think...they ain't no Michael Schenker who said, "There are scales...and you know it....I just feel it and make it up. This lineup was a glam cover band at best, accept Campbell who could shred with anybody.

AFAIK the problem was not with John Sykes. In an interview he said that once the recordings of Whitesnake 1987 were over and all guitar parts done David just called him and fired him by phone. Sykes said he still doesn't know any convenient reason for his letting out of Whitesnake. I think there was an ego problem, but it wasn't Sykes ego, but Coverdale's one.
I agree that no of the following albums, nor even the next one with Steve Vay came even close to 1987 one.

Sykes version of the events doesn't match with Coverdale's. There is no lack of egos plaguing talented musicians in the music entertainment industry and Sykes is not immune to it just like Coverdale isn't. It just depends who's story you believe. I'm pretty sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Their unified collaboration made the 1987 album great. I truly believe that if they would have continued working as a team we would have been blessed with more epic albums. I was hoping that somewhere down the line they could have reconciled and teamed up again. But it's to late now cos' Coverdale's vocals are gone.

That was the worst solo ever for "Crying In The Rain"

How the fuck did Coverdale ever get any work? This is really bad in this concert. I admit, his studio recordings can be impressive at times, but he's only ever been good because of the bands he's been in. And with Whitesnake, Coverdale owes A LOT to John Sykes for making him sound great. Sykes got robbed.

Overblown histrionics from admittedly fine musicians, but it's too over the top for me.
Live in Rio 85 with Sykes and Cozy is better but David's voice is rough.
Looking at this, there's no soul at all, just pointless metal shredding.
Was it worth throwing away a classic band?
    David doesn't think so.

Terrible esp compared to the album.
Aldridge was a wizard in the studio and just avg to awful live. Here once again HE CANNOT KEEP TIME.
