TECHNICS IS NOT WHAT IT USE TO BE. TODAY NOT EVERYONE HAVE £11,999.00 TO BUY A POWER AMP FROM TECHNICS SE-R1 STEREO AMP on that you need a pre amp DAMN for that price i would go for a ACCUPHASE E-370 or a E-470 integrated amp

@@votive3946 i am completely sorry i got it all wrong about this amp i really thought it was the Technics SE-R1 at 12990 euro and no you cant get a Accuphase for the price of the Technics C700 the cheaper Accuphase is the E-270 that go for about 5000 Euro. Again votive i am sorry i did not get it about this Technics AMP at about 1300 Euro . I saw this Technics SE-R1 at 12990 Euro damn i would never give that price for that i would go for a Accuphase E-380, but i love to much my old Sansui AU 20000 with my klipsch RF-7 MK3 and i still have my Technics SL1210 MK2 that a got in 1990

I hope they are going to be making products for people other then the ultra rich. My Technics receiver was priced in the $400-$500 range. It’s a 2003 and still working flawlessly. I’d love to upgrade it to get the latest Dolby programming and I’d obviously want to get another Technics unit so they better build stuff for Best Buy customers.

@@votive3946 Yes I have heard one and I completely agree with What Hi 2* review (they rarely get things wrong)- disorganised, poor timing and lacks energy and drive. I found the sound to be fizzy and brittle (through decent Q acoustic speakers). I think it’s selling primarily on its looks with the snazzy VU meters because for £1000 or thereabouts you can buy far superior amps. The Rega Brio absolutely destroys it! Maybe the soon to be released Technics R1000 will bring Technics amplifiers back onto the scene but this one certainly won’t. Shame because Technics have made some astounding transistor amps, I own an SU-V90D and it’s superb! If you are happy with yours then that’s fantastic and everyone is entitled to their opinion and hifi is very subjective but I found the C700 very underwhelming and for the money, very overpriced.

I also have a Rogers Cadet III valve amp and I can honestly say the Rega is the best transistor amplifier that I’ve heard without spending snake oil money! In comparison to the Rogers it conveys warmth and tone that is almost comparable with the added timing of transistors and that is really saying something. The top end ‘air’ isn’t there of the Rogers but no transistor amp is going to be. What speakers did you use on the Rega? What is your source?
