- This episode is just a quick one showing us getting going on our new CRUSA Street Stock. I made a run up to AED Metals and picked up some Docol R8 roll cage tubing to use on our Small Metric G body frame we will be building our next car out of. Stay tuned to the end because I explain the fate of the Crush as well ;)

Glad to see you starting the next build. It’s not one big thing that makes a race car fast, it’s 1000 little things so looking forward to seeing the difference’s between the two builds. Good luck!
Thank you Dale, yesssss I agree, its all the little things added up that matter.
Hold on, let me go get some popcorn going. I'm all in on this build.
I just bought a car, built locally. I know them, it's a solid chassis for the class. Some great friends helped out with it. Can't wait for spring, and to get back into it after 25 years of just being able to help others, and not racing.
This is gonna get good!
Glad to see you back into the seat Jeff. We are going to try and move fast this winter and get this bad boy knocked out hoping to be able to have videos every week and move fast.
This is great. These videos are so educational and fun to watch. The only thing I hope for 2 things. 1 You help me greatly, I kind of feel like not everything was shown. Just do your best. 2. You are a great mentor to me and everyone else watching. I am an office rat that loves building and racing dirt cars. Don't quit on this build. They are so educational and fun to watch. Again your the best at this and thanks for all the help you and your family give me. Factory Stock # 53, OKC
Thank you, My plan on this build is to not show as much of the cutting, bending and welding but instead focus on showing how the design is being figured out, the choices, how it is working out, etc trying to make sure i don't skip anything critical racers want to see.
Am neck deep in my own new car project ! .. I run pavement, but build techniques are the same. I've learned a few great tricks from you to use on my own stuff. YEE HAAAAA ...... NEXT !!
I think this build will go fast and be a good one 😉
Excited to watch this build Jason! Not too many people willing to be as open as you are with racing advice 🏁
Well Darren, You know some of this advice is lack luster LOL. But I am open and honest about it!
@@DIRTRACELIFE right! Haha However, I’m still getting used to no bumps, and people are using chains etc to get faster. I’m learning a lot just watching these episodes. All I know is factory shock mounts, and spring cups are winning every weekend at Camden for CRUSA 😜
Awesome Jason looking forward to seeing how you build the new one
Working on it today bud. Big plans buddy, big plans.
Oh I’m ready for this!! I’ll be tuning in for sure!! I completely understand what you mean. I have lots of used parts on mine. It’s tough sometimes. Truitt Miller sponsored me many items for my car. That’s a good dude right there!!
Good luck on the build, Jason!
Thanks Guys, I'm still watching yall and learning stuff from you as well! www.youtube.com/@ontheberm
One of these days I may have to get me one of them DRL Race Cars 😂🤷🏻♂️ one thing for sure I’d know exactly how it was built haha
Yes sir, Hopefully one day the DRL will be a top performer that a few folks get their hands on.
I am just starting to build a metric car myself so this will be great for me to follow along as you build.
That's awesome, hopefully we both build a couple top notch cars!
I can't wait to see you start building the new car it's going to be awesome buddy
It's all starting to kick off, Shoot I love building season!
I see your point. However what would be wrong with selling just the cage. It could be adapted to someone running a factory stock. This allowing someone to save a lot of work and some cash. Attaching that cage to a metric car would be an cost effective option, heck if I was building a new TB I’d love to have the cage to start a car
I plan to even cut my top mount dash board out of the halo and reuse it. I know what you are saying but I really plan to use this sucker all I can.
I knew it was coming just didn’t know it would be before lunch 💪🏼
well it was a short update and Kim told me "get up early and get it done cause we got christmas decorations to do" SMH . . .
Jason that's how you learn, a few years back there was a friend of mine who started building modifieds and they were Hassy cars and very good ones at that, but he was always trying different ways to build them ! But you will not be happy till you find what is the best car for you, every driver has there own likes about how a car works ?
100% Spot on with thus comment Dana, Thanks for reminding me I'm not nutz LOL
Love the videos Jason. Getting back in racing after 20+ years and just bought a southern sportmod. I've watched all the vids on front end geometry on the crush. Was actually about to start the front end changes on my car this weekend, BUT then I saw this video. Are some of the major changes from crush going to be in the front end setup? Wondering if I need to wait before winding up in the same boat your in with crush.
The Metric is definitely different when it comes to the front end. The Crush was a 73-77 and that chassis has pretty decent front end to start with. This car will have to have more modification than it did.
Hey Jason, thank you for the great videos! What were those lower control arms that you showed in this video? I tried to do a search for them and wasn't able to find them anywhere. I'd really appreciate any more info you have on them. Thanks again
Those are the "Wing" lower control arms and they are approved for CRUSA Street Stock but I am not sure about any other sanctioning bodies. Rodney Wing's group makes these and as far as I know the best way to get them is to call the track number and tell them you want a set. You may can PM the track's FB page as well. That would likely get to Rodney too.
I’ve not messed with much of the docol tubing but I did get a piece from a friend and it wanted to mash when I bent it past a 45 for some reason. Probably something I was or wasn’t doing though
A lot of that has to do with the wall thickness and the bender dies/fixturing. My JD2 does great with 0.083 wall but I ran into some issues with 0.065 doing that to me.
@@DIRTRACELIFE that may have been my problem as well
What exactly from the Orange Crush was telling you it could not be a top contender?
The number one thing is the longer trailing arm. I was seeing how my operating window for LR drive was smaller than what I want and I figured out some of that was because I could traction up from LR trailing arm angle.
At first I couldn't understand why you would travel 6 hrs to buy tubing. You should have explained What Docal R8 Was and why you were using it. We are 4th year Mod Racers and just traded up from an old tank Pierce to an Impressive. I like you vids because you get into design and other performance issues that cover all dirt cars, Frankly we are excited to get away from the Metric front end, are you limited to it or do you prefer it? And Why?
We are limited to only complete chassis front to rear with at least a 108" wheelbase. Because the front end is allowed to be so heavily modified, the small metric frame with its 4 link rear suspension is dominating the CRUSA SS here in the southeast US.
On the Docol, AED is the only supplier I know of. My local source otherwise was a 2 hour drive away for DOM and I was looking at +$500 in cost because of all the markup through middlemen. So between Jamie explaining the performance difference to me and that, I felt a roadtrip was called for.
The crush looked to be getting better and you were getting the setup close toward the end. Why in the world would you build a new car, when you can just improve on what you already have?
I know it can seem that way but I have run the full range on this car and have realized a few limitations that no matter how close I get it will still be a hindrance. its hard to show that versus driving it and seeing it day to day.
I am after something here, and I know I have to be willing to grind out more than one chassis to make it happen.
i know . . . just work with me here 😀
Just curious, what's the cost difference between docol and dom? It's a interesting material, but not a ton of information is out there for cost and availability.
As far as I know AED Metals is the only stateside supplier. cost wise its slightly more than plain HREW mild steel but less than DOM or 4130 Chrome Moly. Perfomance wise its stronger and less brittle than moly but my understanding is will take memory easier than moly (more like DOM or just HREW)
Can't you use the cage from the crush on the new car?
No sir, We have some new plans for a better cage and design. MUST GO FASTER!
I just want to know who picked out that outfit? You look like a school teacher :) :) :)
just got off work at the day job LOL
Following from the city of chihuahua mexico
Oh wow Alex, so tell us what kind of cars do most of you use to race. Gm metrics, fords, or models from oversea?
@@DIRTRACELIFE street stock is what I race we race circle track and dirt circuit which is more fun to race

Dang you were 35 min from me!
That was a long haul for me :)
🏁🏁. No lewis chassis?
Well, It may have a Lewis Vibe to it! Jamie is helping me to make the right moves on how to build this thing.
How much for the tubing
That was about $2k in tubing right there. But the DOCOL is going for a bit less than $5 a foot right now depending on how much you buy
I enjoy your shows. But I do think going wrong way on ducoil car. Just to Ridgid
Its definitely a different material. After doing some research on the material performance reports I have learned it is much much stronger in shear but is less rigid. It will bend easier but is harder to break is what I am understanding from what I have read.
But, there is no money racing street stock, that can beat a real job....
A lot of truth there, a few guys do it but basically it boils down to big sponsorships making it possible for them.
For me, I want to get to the point where I can help racers get their cars working right, build some real performer chassis to be proud of, and just creat le a positive influence on the sport. Hopefully in a few more years I will figure out how to do that as more of the full time roll and maybe just do some engineering work as the side hustle to pay the bills 😀
Wow I'm so disappointed I watched that car being built from day one and I was waiting to see the day it was in victory Lane consecutively
I know Dave, but I just had to be honest with myself. Take the good and use it to build the next one better.
