Never heard Thunder's reason for existence so well summarised. He was a flawed person - but a great rocker, a lean mean style all his own.....and an inspiration for good and bad reasons..
Along with "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes, Marc Bolan's original is hands down the best pop song of all time. Debbie and Johnny kick the backside out of this cover. Bet Bolan loved this....
Johnny Thunders applied himself to guitar in the Dolls, under the tutelage of Sylvain. Before the Dolls, Johnny played bass. After the heroin took hold, JT stopped practicing guitar in general. He would say in interviews that his philosophy was that musicians should not be competitive, and that's why he doesn't practice, but really, he had changed priorities. What impressed me about his guitar playing was how far he could stretch a 10 riff repertoire so far.
Parts of this show have been officially released on Picture This Live (1998) and Blondie Live - Philadelphia 1978/Dallas 1980 (1999), but neither with JT. The next song was Jet Boy, and JT played on that one, too. Thanks for this!
+dopo666 some asshole talks shit about johnny bc he had a drug problem, I gurantee any band he likes, if at all likes , or knows anything about music, used drugs. Maybe not Ted Nugent . MAYBE. It was the 70's.
Yeah..! I love all the Great smack heads, (I'm a smack/pot head myself, so what?) like Johnny Thunders, Iggy, Keef, and God knows who. I love 'em, they don't pretend anything. Their music, clothes, cool attitude, etc... But I'm also very fond of '60s golden age of rock/beat/psychedelia until '73/'74, Krautrock, the USA/Brit - 1st punk era, and a lot of post punk/cult/underground from whenever. But Thunders, Pop, and everything from Pot Head Pixie Daevid Allen is fe-no-me-nal! LUV it! ;-)
@firstcat Yea ,your so right about Johnny's playing philosophy, thats what inpired so many of us young punks to make the scene only knowing "three chords" ,that whole event ,momentum thing ,all that energy and bad attitude gave us hope without false asperations , never heard this track before tho ,l think its great ,loved hearing it ,l remember seein Debbie join Johnny on stage once at a great ol punk dico in NYC called " Heat " once ,oh say maybe in 78 ,or somewhere around then ...
Those were the days of rock roll it cool and easy where the ladies come out and see the boys dress up and would say I want this one I want that one we like all the young dudes we were dress with platform boots velvet pants and really cool shirts from englend at Nobodies bar this is met Johnny Thunder he was so cool .artie Torres those were the days be cool every body
4:50 and on... It turns into a real show, a real jam.. a real "get it on"... All the critiques i read only illustrate that the critics probably don't know how to be an authentic musician and "get it on" or let go and live and let live..
Johnny was so loaded in San Francisco in 1980 he pinched my pretty boyfriend in the ass thinking he was a girl. (Karl on a bad day was prettier than most females around). I fucking loved this guy!
+mark james No Mark. Johnny was a fun, nice guy, like myself. You actually sound like a sad, authoritarian bummer. So sorry for you. Have a good life, man. If you can.
Lotsa people would say the same about Strummer's playing (including ol'Joe himself, I'm sure, if he were still here to say so). Mick Jones had limited prowess as well, but I personally like that. Clash 4ever!
I love this song " Get it ON ! " Where is the video ? Blondie must of thought about making a video of this gig. Perhaps someone forgot to bring the video camera !
how could anyone say johnny did not influence many many guitarist? johnny was one of the best ever and as far as cool, johnny was the coolest of them all, and the drug use yea its sad him and many others died no doubt but thats no reason to discount his talents because he used drugs, i am not gonna say its wrong to use drugs i use them myself, do they hurt others that love us yes they do but thats no reason to not love or respect someone because he or she used drugs
Yeah,then MAX'S Kanses City,n New Years Eve, Private party,across fron the ST.REGIS,oh man,brotherly ...cuz,Debbie a sweetheart 2,opening 4 Igggy,P.,oh What days,he was THE GUNSLINGER OF ALL GUITARISTS,RIP always...cuz.n thx4 all!! the Stick

You can’t put your arm around a
Memory.
The best rock song ever. RIP Marc Bolsn
He knows a couple chords, knows a couple leads. He made 'em work.
Never heard Thunder's reason for existence so well summarised.
He was a flawed person - but a great rocker, a lean mean style all his own.....and an inspiration for good and bad reasons..
Love the guitar sound. Simple and distinctive. Squeezes a lot of attitude from just a few chords and creates his own sound on the go.
I thought I was a big JT fan but I never knew this happened. Johnny on top form. Thanks for putting this on CZcams.
I love Blondie and Sir Johnny Thunders

No, he grew up playing the guitar. He was a much better player than Sylvian and had a totally different style.
what an understatedly perfect tune for Johnny ...
"Bang a Gong...get it on," who knew?!!!!
Thunders was heavily influenced by T. Rex. You could just guess that from his tone.
I can't believe I've never heard this! Blondie, Johnny, T Rex??????
Gustando la guitarra de Jhonny, incluso desde el tiempo de los Dolls, se entiende el amor por T Rex y bueno, Blondie no se queda atrás!
Brilliant ♡♡♡
Chinese rocks oh yeah
They also did Jet Boy.
Are you kidding me !?!! This is wicked awesome.
