- Each year, we ask gardeners what their favorite color is, and for many years the color 'purple' is right there at the top! Purple adds a warmth to a garden, and can also help define sections of the landscape--providing a color break from all of the green of other plants. In this video Laura reviews some new, and tried and true purple favorites that you might want to add to your wish list too!
The plants shown in this video are:
Red Obelisk Beech tree
Summerwine Ninebark--pwwin.rs/3QNVgfB

Thank you, PROVEN WINNERS! I LoVE yall! You should have a separate category called: "Laura's Garden Answer" Plants!!!! Loving you from North Carolina.....Laura is the BEST!!!
Learning about new plants watching you has elevated my garden and I am renewing my interest in gardening because of it.
Purple can be fun. Thanks for the recommendations.
What a treat on a beautiful morning up here in Canada On Canada Day...back to back videos...Garden Answer and Proven Winners with Laura! 🇨🇦❤️🙂...it's going to be a glorious day! Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians!
It is still raining here S.E. Qld, Australia 🙃It has rained heavily , with only a few sunny days, for over a year. 😕 Enjoy your sunny day 😄
Fantastic l love purple in my garden. Love all those plants. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. Appreciated.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I have one of the weeping beach (not sure the spelling) and it is super beautiful. It is a slow growth tree which I don’t mind it. The color is dark purple from spring through summer. They turn green in the fall which is nice. A tree with character!
Purple is my favorite 😊
Our research has found that purple is the #1 color for gardeners, followed by pink. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. I am learning so much.
Beautiful plants! Thanks, Proven Winners.
Yes you are right about the coleus flowering. If you allow the coleus to flower then it will often cause the plant to die back. I have grown these plants for 30 years, in both cool climates and now in the subtropics of Australia. They quickly grow into big bushes in the subtropics!😀 🌴🪴🌳🌺😊
I thoroughly enjoy my Ninebark. The leaves have some green when they are new. Change to a gorgeous color as they age. The white flowers will change to a red berry. I get so many compliments on this shrub.
Also, I am sold on the Proven Winner products. Just ordered the Black Lace Elderberry for vacant space in front of my house. Our lace leaf Japanese died and I had been waiting for the right thing replace it.
Thank you! I love Elderberry. They really will make a great difference.
You're right Jolley
Another awesome video. Love all the beautiful plants 🪴🪴🪴
Thanks for this video. I'm going to try the Penstemen Perennial "Midnight Masquerade" here in Maine. Happy fourth of July to you, & your's.
Personally that is one of my favorite perennials, have two in my backyard! Enjoy!
❤ great to see purple plants for the garden.
Good morning. Yes happy Canada Day. Love this and just seeing what will work in my growing zone.
Oh wow thank you Laura everything is so pretty! 💜💜💜
Laura I could walk these gardens all day long!!! When I think of the "before" and how beautiful things are progressing!!! I think you are a garden genius!!! Have a Happy 4th of July! :)
Loving my first time growing Penstamon! I may try that barberry--pretty. Your garden is looking lush!!
your property is a park, a wonderland for a gardner, i have very little space, but enjoy it to bits. love hearing your view on the different plants
Another great video. I enjoyed it so much.
Wow I love this video! That purple coleus looks beautiful!😀❤️
I planted a drift of Onyx and Pearls penstemon the spring, it is so pretty. Another great option in this Purple category. Highly recommend.
Laura, your garden is beautiful have you thought about just repeating the same plants by the pedestals? I think it would be gorgeous. Purple is my favorite 😍💜💜💜💜💜💜
Hello 👋
That's a great idea!
Love Purple / Black or darker leaves! I've had a couple of similar Heucheras planted for years, and this Summer acquired a black Ophiogon and an Atropurpureum(?) Japanese Maple. Thx for these fab recommendations!
So beautiful!
👋
Love them all. I have the wicked witch coleus plants. They're very hardy and low maintenance bush. I live in North Queensland here in Australia 🇦🇺 and I have them in full sun. They do need to be watered more being out there but they are sooo easy to grow.
Stunning xx
Laura on gardening......she's a proven winner! ;-)
She truly is! And is as nice in person as she is in her videos, a joy to work with!
You are so good at what you do. Your videos on this channel have quickly become a go-to for me as I am learning, slowly but surely, how to become a (lazy) gardener! So grateful for the amount of useful information I gathered from you. Hope you keep doing these for a long, long time still. All the best.
Great to hear!
the purple is awesome
Hello, this is the perfect way to start my morning by watching your outstanding video, I always admire your uniqueness, thanks for sharing this amazing video, keep up the good work my friend, you will always have my full support, good luck
Please do a video about the new Sting Arborvitae coming out soon 👏🏻👏🏻😊⭐️
I saw a cherry red hukara in the garden center and I thought Laura and I need this in our gardens .
Hello 👋
Proven Winners always coming with the 💨!! 👏🏽👏🏽
Your should also try Verbena Brampton!! Lovely colour 💘
Thank you for sharing the color purple 💜
I will add a couple to my flower bed this early autumn.
This summer of 105° every day, is just too hot to plant.
I also noticed how you share the pollinators with us often and was wondering ... Have you ever considered having beehives on your property? 😊
Dark Side of the Moon is already in stores. I have 3 of them.
I just saw your plants being offered online at Home Depot or was it Lowe's? Wow, you must really have a large operation! 😲. I already know I love your plants. 👍
What is going on with the North Pole Arbs? So many of them appear to look like they've come through a rough windstorm with branches hanging down and very unkempt. I was going to add some to my garden but now I'm having second thoughts. Thank you. (LOVE this channel!)
Only watched because of Laura!
I follow Laura 's channel and I can assure you she is not alone! Her channel, garden answer, includes videos about how she uses a quadrant plan to stay on top of bed conditions. It is such an informative channel.
In one of your videos you said you cut down your lavender to the ground every fall. The variety you have is different than mine, Hidcote. I’m wondering if I should do the same thing. I’ve always pruned it in the fall but never to the ground and it is quite “woody”. Suggestions???
I just checked. The barberry can not be shipped to Connecticut even though it's sterile. What a bummer, I was looking for something that size in burgundy or purple too.
We just started watching and enjoy your youtube videos. We noticed Cheddars and Russell follow you around in the gardens in the newer videos and Dexter was in the older videos. What happened to Dexter?
This isn't Laura's channel, so she probably won't see this. Dexter died...they found him in the garden somewhere, no marks on him, so they never figured out what happened. She has a video on her channel where she discusses it.
Wonderful! I did notice you’re pots weren’t on the back porch! Are you starting to brick the walkway?
Your*
Hello 👋
Not yet, soon!
Hi Laura, I realize this might be kind of a strange request, but can you do a video of some of the plants that have proven to be particularly problematic to grow and why or that you do not recommend?
I think you need to go to her page and ask.. this is proven winners and I don’t think Laura have the time to go though questions her .. 🙂
Laura does point out the things to watch for when planting, so her goal is to make gardening easier, and to help people be successful with plants that others might struggle with.
Hey watching this I have question slightly off topic. When u prune mop head hydrangeas, do u wait until all blooms have faded late in summer of early fall and THEN prune or do u do it as the blooms die off aroudn the hydrangea
This article should help, we also call these SMOOTH hydrangeas.... www.provenwinners.com/Hydrangeas-Demystified
Hey, my husband and I will be in SE Oregon, Ontario for a few days. Do you have a retail nursery I can visit? Coming from Medford OR!
Which Japanese anemone runs? I need that kind of plant. I have some that seed.
Don’t forget winecraft black smokebush
It is also a beautiful variety!
I was told that Japanese beetles love the darker leaves. They decimated my purple plum .
Thanks for the heads up, Japanese beetles are horrible here. Laura has mentioned in the past highlights Q&As that they don't have them there I believe.
They are not particular to the color, because we have seen them destroy green leaved plants too!
@@ProvenWinnersCZcams I found one on my peach tree this morning ... no purple there.
@@GoingGreenMom Exactly! They seem to be drawn to certain plants but personally I cannot figure out what it is they prefer!
what is recommended for treating powdery mildew on outdoor plants?
Best to ask that at your local garden center, show them a picture of the plant because they will want to know the type of plant too.
Very strange! CZcams showed me this video was posted 11 hours ago, but I know I saw this awhile back. I remember the scene where she gets sprayed by the water. Regardless, I watched the video again! Love the colour selection!
Proven winners, not garden answer
@@krisbaker9427 Ahhhhh! Of course, thanks for clearing that up! I could watch GA videos all day and several times, they are so informative.
@@mukthatumkur3324 👋
You would have seen it on Laura's channel. As a sponsor we tend to share it later than they do. Thanks for watching...AGAIN!!
@@ProvenWinnersCZcams Thank you for clearing that up. I love PW, and have been working on my PW Signature Garden! I love Laura's Garden Answer channel as well. So inspiring.
Will the heuchera you showed in a pot live thru the winter?
It is easy to winter perennials over in containers, much depends on where you live. We are including an article on the topic...but also keep in mind perennials that are in containers in the summer can get dropped into your landscape in early fall where they can thrive indefinitely! www.provenwinners.com/overwintering-perennials-shrubs
What is the name of the drill plus the attachment and where can I buy it ?
Laura prefers a different brand of auger due to the very heavy clay soil they are challenged with, but we also do have a line of augers, here is a link, www.provenwinners.com/catalog/gardening-tools
where is the best plACE to order heuchera? and hellebores? our garden centers just have one or two options and I'd really like some variety in my shade garden.
We offer plants on our website under the SHOP tab, as does a few garden centers and other sites. We hope you do find what you are looking for!
Does that Beech have nuts or does any have nuts. They are encased with an interesting outer shell.and I think there may be an inner shell, too, but not positive about that. There is a beautiful blue columbine that I think is called Holy Spirit.
I live in Zone 7B - is it too hot for Black Lace Elderberry to thrive in our area?
Do you ever have a problem with weeds? If so how do you handle such a large area by yourself?
Shes not by herself. She does have 2 full time helpers plus her husband. She breaks her garden in to quadrant and a day of the week. So for instance Monday she or her help does quadrant #1, Tuesday she or her help does quadrant #2 and so on thru out the week. And the next Monday they start all over again.
I hope this helps. 😘
Does the sterile barberry have thorns like they usually do?
No, these do not have thorns.
@@ProvenWinnersCZcams Whopee, now
where can I buy one.
My hydra gas aren’t bloomed yet and this is July 2. What is wrong?
If you are up north that is not unusual. Other reasons may be you pruned them at the wrong time, or they are not getting enough sun, this article can help, www.provenwinners.com/Hydrangeas-Demystified
Hi! I Believe they are toxic for domestic animals? I am a fan of your palnts thank you!
Can I dead head penstemon
No need to do so
But if the dried blooms are bothering you yes, you can trim them and it might encourage reblooming later in the season too.
hello dear queen where are you from
Laura and her family live in eastern Oregon where they are dealing with very high temps right now! Thanks for watching.
Too bad proven winner's doesn't create a black lace elderberry for zone 9.
Certain types of plants just do not survive the heat of a zone 9, there isn't an option to 'create' one, it is understanding the nature of each variety and the zone they perform best in.
